He showed some improvement at the end of the season. I'm not ready to write him off yet, think he could end up a solid middle 6 forward. Like the deal because if he does you have him cheap a couple years, if he doesn't it won't cost much to dump him
Nice trade. Signed for two years now. He could be the goalie of the future. It’s definitely worth the 3rd round pick
It’s a nice situation. Now you see if he can handle more games than he was allowed in Carolina. I’d guess he and Greiss are on a pretty even split next year. Two years before UFA to work something out longer term if he hits.
This was a no brainer deal. If the kid sucks, so what? The biggest issue is if he does well, his new deal walks him to UFA. Even if that happens,‘I trust Steve to get the situation figured out for us. A goalie in the first round is still on the table as well, but probably not at six. Moving up to the teens with our second first still seems possible though. This is the exact opposite of the Leddy deal.
The 3rd was the one we got for Tatar, so our return for Tatar is officially: Joe Veleno, Robert Mastrosimone, and Alex Nedelijkovic
Ned’s from northern Ohio and played 4 years of juniors in Michigan so that should help factor in re-signing him.
I'm not sure this necessarily precludes us from drafting a goalie. 7 year age difference between Ned and Wallstedt. Most teams run 2 goalies and we don't have any real prospects in our system. With him also being a ufa in 2 years, any goalie we take will take that long to develop I'd guess we are less likely to now, but I wouldn't completely write it off
Yzerman apparently said in his presser today the plan is for Leddy to pair with Hronek. So that's your first pairing. Wonder if we make a run at another veteran LD to play with Seider, someone like Martinez
I didn’t catch the part about Leddy playing with Hronek but Yzerman definitely said they will be looking for a LHD…Marc Staal being an option He works hard not to say much but a LHD is gonna happen per his comments
Staal was awful early in season but actually settled in ok by the end I thought. That said I'd prefer other options over him
Watching a lot of stuff on Eklund tonight, think he may be my favorite at the moment but think good chance he will be gone by our pick.
After the Seider pick I trust their judgment better than mine. I like a couple guys, no one I absolutely hate. We'll see how it shakes out
I think you are over selling this. If they think the best player is a winger it's not like we couldn't use another one
Are there any future #1 C in this draft? I'm not sure. We have a few guys who can be middle 6 guys already. Dont think we can solve our #1 C issue tonight Do think we can find some 2nd line wingers with 1st line potential possibly which we could use
My final guess 1. Power 2. Beniers 3. Eklund 4. Hughes 5. McTavish 6. Svechkov I wouldn’t be stunned if we took Edvinsson in this scenario, but I just have this feeling about Svechkov.
they had to forfeit their game in the tourney. They still were not even a top 10 team though. Pretty pathetic with 3 top 8 picks.
