Lost my Dad earlier this year on short notice. He came into town Super Bowl weekend and told me he was sick after the game was over. We spent the next 14 days together, me attempting to help him navigate his impending mortality and him closing out his affairs and saying goodbyes before passing on a Sunday afternoon. I feel incredibly blessed and grateful for that experience and it was an honor taking on that role. I've been holding back from posting in this thread, but things are far enough along now that I'm not worried about it. We're expecting our first child this January, a little boy and the cosmic timing of the universe and God's love have never been more apparent to me than have been over the last 6 months. I've never been more excited about leveling up to Dad status and can't wait for him to get here. Life is beautiful, Cheers fellas.

    I give up.

My kids played and swam for 9 hours today. 3 hours at the playground, 3 hours at the pool, and 3 hours raging at home in the backyard.

    The fuckfaces are still awake.

Four year old daughter is running a slight fever after testing positive for COVID yesterday (probably the super mutated Delta variant!) and somehow she has more energy than ever before. Completely shrugged off her usual 1 hour nap after 10 minutes and came barging into my office with her toy maracas.

Currently using my best trump impression to tell my child she’s mean and nasty because she keeps biting kids at daycare, and she has to stay in her pack-n-play all day like a dog in a kennel

we are switching daycares next month. my 4.5 year old has been going to the same one since he was 1 and the 2.5 year old has been going since she was 6 weeks. How rough is this transition going to be for them? not so worried about my daughter because she's still so young. But my son has some really close friends in his current school and loves all the teachers. He's really thrived over there. We hate to move them at all but we moved across town last year and it's a 25 minute drive to the current daycare. Once I had to go back to the office full time that near 2 hours a day of driving my wife was doing every day became too much.

This is the last week of daycare for our 5 y/o and our 2.5 y/o will be switching to one in our new town, so I'm getting anxious about it as well. The 5 year old starts kindergarten in a couple weeks and he couldn't be more pumped about it, so I'm not worried about him. Our younger one is way more emotional so I think it could be rough for him but we will see. Kids are resilient so even if it's hard, I'm sure it'll only be for a short time.

But only having to pay daycare for one kid after this week :blessed:

yeah i keep telling myself that he's got one year until kindergarten so he's making a change soon anyways. this daycare will more than likely put him with several kids he will be going to school with. so it's a good move. he's just a sensative guy and I worry about it. cannot wait for that sweet sweet kindergarten raise.

Am I a bad dad if I go fuck off to a hotel for four nights? My MIL, despite being vaccinated, was symptomatic Friday when she was over for dinner with us (she has Alzheimer's and is in a memory care facility) and has to quarantine for 10 days, that is until next Monday. This is why my daughter now has COVID and has to stay out of daycare until next Tuesday. We thought my MIL was going to be able to have 24/7 caregiver support but apparently they don't have enough staff and she's already fallen once in her room and they didn't discover her on the floor until they did their hourly checks. My wife basically said she needs her mom to stay with us until Monday and said her cousin can fly down and help out (wife's cousin was living with my MIL when she started to really go down hill mentally in Fresno).

MIL already lived with us for six months between last year and this year because of COVID until my wife found a good facility near us that wasn't completely locked down. During that time it was very tough on me because I had to sleep in our office and had to be a single parent a lot of days. My wife seems okay if I just screw off and she can watch our daughter and her mom with her cousin helping watch her mom some as well. I feel like a very selfish and shitty dad but I think I'm going to really lose it if I have to be here the entire time for this again.

Anyone have any experience with West Syndrome/Infantile Spasm Disorder? Found out that it's strongly suspected my friend's son has it. I feel terrible for them as they had to go through years of IVF and miscarriages just to have their kid only for this to pop up. They have an EEG appointment tomorrow.

My 4 year old is going to lose his 2 best friends due to thenm aging out of his daycare and going to kindergarten. They all started the same month so they've been together for their whole lives for the most part. He hasn't figured it out and he is going to be crushed. It's going to kill me to see him upset.

I’d love to turn back the clock, lil man who will be a freshman in a couple weeks informed me yesterday that a junior, varsity cheerleader will be driving him to school so he won’t need a ride and will definitely not be riding the bus.

Today I learned he is dating a sophomore varsity cheerleader from one of the other high schools here in town, and she was coming over to hang out.

I’d love to go back to worrying about switching to solid foods. Hell I’d be happy changing those tar poop baby diapers again.

I am in constant conflict about my kids growing up. I want to fast forward sometimes because shit can suck. But I also realize how important enjoying parenting can/should be.

As a destination guy, sometimes the journey is tough to appreciate.

This was him after he got shredded by a drone during a TV show pilot filming in LA two weeks ago at urgent care getting staples in his leg. I was giving him some leeway since he was in some good pain to let me know how he was feeling.

This will be my son in 10 years. Dude strikes up conversations with everyone and always has older kids wanting to hang out with him.

I largely attribute it to the positive affirmation response I trained him to give when he was 3 or 4 where I'll just randomly say "you're the man, bro!" and he'll automatically respond with "heck yeah I am!"

Whose got tips and techniques to get a 3 year old boy potty trained? His twin sister has been fully potty trained since Thanksgiving, and this kid just refuses to not shit his pants. Will piss in the toilet every time, but even if we leave him without a pullup or underwear, he will just wait til nap time or overnight to shit himself. Tried to bribe him with everything under the sun and no dice.

We had this problem with our daughter a few months ago. My wife did a meeting with a child psychologist through her work. She told us to put a stool under her feet when she sits on the toilet so that she feels leverage. She pooped in the toilet the 2nd time we did it. And if she poops in her pants, have her go finish on the toilet to get a feel for it. It took a few weeks but she is oooping in the toilet about 75% of the time now.

we are running into this issue now with our 3 year old. pisses in the toilet fine(well half of it ends up on the seat) and was doing ok pooping, but then all of the sudden just decided he was only going to shit in his underwear.

We did this too. I always felt if I could give him an overflowing cup of confidence he’d be all right. We had to go meet the girlfriends mom last night and it’s that confidence that even carries over to speaking with adults, looking them in the eye and holding a conversation.
