100 grams is very low protein for your body size. Bare minimum I'd want that to be 150. How many grams of fat are you getting? At that low a level of calories you might be too low on fat as well which can start to fuck with hormones.

This is also how I've cut weight for years and worked very well. My problem these days is the stressors of being an adult and I've gotten in a really bad habit of unwinding by having a few drinks at night.

Yeah it's pretty much impossible to lose or maintain weight while drinking. There's just so many calories in alcohol

I go mostly bourbon so as little calories as your going to get but yea, it's adding a good 2000+ calories a week. I do crossfit 3-4 times a week so I burn a lot of calories, really just need to cut the week night drinking out and I'll drop some weight. Currently trying to drop about 10 lbs.

My gym hiatus from covid and then a newborn has left me 20 lbs lighter that I can't afford to lose. Starting back tomorrow.

Talk to me about bulking strategies that are low in sugar. I was in the pre-beetus range back when I was fat. Was thinking smaller but more frequent meals and a bedtime bagel with peanut butter, buy there's probably a better way

Track your calories and your weight. Shoot to gain 1-2lbs a week. When that stalls add more food. If you’re worried about putting on too much bad weight keep the rate of gain closer to 0.5-1lb/week. Keep steps/normal activity high. Shoot for calorically dense food to help with digestion:
    Steak/lean red meat
    Fish
    Chicken
    Eggs
    Rice
    Oatmeal
    Fruit
    Peanut butter
    Butter
    Olive oil

That’s your base + veggies. Mix and match as needed.

Capstone 88 Quick question— I just started exercising and lifting weights about 3 weeks ago. I’m more interested in losing weight than getting ripped or anything like that. Anyway, my gym has a steam room and I’m wondering if it’s better to use it before or after working out?

Capstone 88 No problem. Going to stick with lifting weights on TU and TH and just cardio on MWF and see what happens. I’m working out with a friend from work who is a lot more experienced than me and this is what he’s recommended we do. How does this look if I’m just wanting to lose weight and get in better shape? Warmups are just a mile on the treadmill at about 3.5 mph D30A65C9-FC79-4B55-986F-9AE8591A5BC5.jpeg

My two cents: switch the cardio and lifting days. Lift more and do less cardio. Lifting weights builds muscle mass which burns fat/calories at a greater rate.

as far as this program, I think that’s a pretty good approach to getting started. Only thing I’d want to add is some type of hip hinge movement: trap bar/straight bar deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts, stiff leg deads. Can do the last 2 with dumbbells or straight bar.

Will also add recipes with protein powder in them. Like pancakes, waffles and muffins “protein ice cream”. Tons of them on IG and Tik Tok. The tastyness of Protein powders has gotten pretty insane the last 5 years or so. Wayyy better than the nasty chocolates and vanillas I had to chug when I was a teenager.

Also take an hour on Sunday and just meal prep. I can make every meal for a week in an hour on a Sunday afternoon.

Eggs, hashbrowns, peppers for breakfasts. Monster mash for lunches/dinners.

I have a sensitive tumtum so I eat a bland diet but those are both easy to make and if you're better at time management than I am you can probably get it done faster.

Yeah I’ve heard good things about the Vertical Diet and he seems to keep up with research. I’ve done meal prep with his monster mash before and it’s pretty simple and easy to vary with just seasoning the meat differently.

Is anybody following a whole food plant based diet? I’ve been at it for a month now and I’ve never felt better. When I started I figured I’d just do it for a bit to “detox” and then I’d work in meat and dairy on occasions. Now I’m not so sure. It was kind of coincidental that I had annual blood work done the morning of the day I began to follow WFPB eating, but it will give me the perfect opportunity—if I can keep this up for 6-12 months—to compare my numbers year over year.

Also, I’ve been using Cronometer to track macros and nutrients, it’s a fantastic app and I’m really enjoying it so far. Highly recommend.

i’ve stopped buying meat for groceries and only eat it maybe a couple times a week while out, which makes me appreciate it more. I also do a sustainable fish box. I find this easier than trying to draw a line in the sand with no meat at all. My effort is more environmentally -minded but i have felt better physically as well

I haven’t cut out dairy or eggs yet but I haven’t had meat in a few weeks. I feel great, my digestion is better than it’s been in years, and I’m losing weight. I’ve been considering going fully plant based but I’ll need to phase out dairy incrementally I think.

My recommendation is to do it all at once. It’s honestly easier. Same principle as a treating an alcoholic; you don’t encourage them to ween off over a six month period, you go for a clean break. I never would have thought I’d be capable of living without cheese, but it’s doable.

And the digestion improvement is incredible. I had no idea what I was missing.
