If the Cubs are in town it's hard to fuck up a Wrigleyville/Cubs bachelor party

Alright so that's easy enough, looks like they are in town. So where would you stay, River North?

Yeah you can fully embrace the shit-show, pay a lot, and stay in Wrigleyville or pick a different spot along the red line (river north or the loop) and be more touristy and have the Wrigley Trip be a daytrip. River North is fine if you're in town for a few days. Pick a hotel near the Chicago or Grand red line stops. you'll find plenty to do

Staying in River North and going out in that area on a Friday, wake up and do Wrigley on a Saturday is about as Chicago bachelor party as you can get.

Yea I'm not sure why you would do it any differently- maybe I would stay in West Loop now since that area is booming

I'd say West Loop is a better date neighborhood than for a bachelor party. Great restaurants...some good bars but most don't give off the "lets get blacked out with my buddies" type of vibe.

I'll clarify that this would be a great day drinking spot just north of the main strip in the West Loop: https://www.chicagoinrecess.com/

Recess is an amazing spot for a larger group. Can't recommend enough. Federales is a good spot near that area as well, but not quite as large. Definitely would be good vibes for a bachelor party though. Parlor Pizza in West Loop is solid as well.

There are a number of bars in Old Town that are prime for day drinking that are just north of River North - Benchmark would get the job done. You could also try to get a reservation at Happy Camper and hang there for a while - party vibes and really good pizza. There's a Small Cheval right in that area too that you can just walk up to.

Yeah, this weekend aint gonna be pretty. Although the weekend of the 4th never is. It doesn't help that temps are rising dramatically starting tomorrow.

I've always wanted to give Lightfoot benefit of the doubt, but her refusal to take accountability on really anything is so off-putting. It's always someone else's decision making that led to any bad outcome. I have no idea how her approval rating was still hovering around 50% recently.

    A) Lori is just a fucking asshole that takes everything personally. She treats any minor disagreement or challenge to her plans as if someone threatened a family members life and goes on the attack. It doesnt help all the aldermen are horrible.

    B) Ignoring the socio-economic issues that lead to the this kind of violence, it really sucks that our police dept is so shitty. A month or so ago, I was reading a story about community organizers on the south side saying they're afraid of both the cops and robbers. They need more cops patrolling the high violence areas. It's been proven just having more cops on the beat, reduces this kind of violence. Buuut - the cops dgaf and treat the entire neighborhood like criminals. It's just a shitty shitty situation, and Idk how there's a good fix.

    C) No one cared until the violence started creeping into river north/ old town/ wicker park and bucktown ect.

Swift & Sons and Gibson's are my two favorite that I've been to - Swift and Sons gets the nod because of their old fashioned cart

Bavette's Bar & Boeuf is the one everyone seems to talk about, I haven't been yet. That would be my pick because the vibe is awesome too.

You surely would enjoy RPM, Maple & Ash, and GT Prime too

Thanks guys. Honrstly just looked at the 3 I named bc of Michelin. Wife would eat steak daily so we always do one good steakhouse.

Any other low key suggestions for laid back casual meals? Getting there Wednesday, Thursday is booked for a trip to Iowa, but then free all Friday and Saturday except going to a ballgame Saturday night. Staying in the Loop area, I think, at Palmer House.

one weird/cool thing about Chicago is that outside of the really fancy restaurants, all the rest are "laid back." I've never seen a dress code enforced outside of a $100+ meal place. I'm sure your wife will want to go to Michigan Ave to shop, so my suggestion there is LUXBAR (maple wings and Brussel sprouts). Fast food: Small Cheval

Yea making the trip for Field of Dreams. Was going to eat the resell price but IowaHuskerFan3 saw me post about it and said he won the lottery for tickets and wasn't going so let me get his tickets. Last minute trip and now trying to fill a few days in Chicago. Absolutely no idea what to do lol. Maybe MCA one day idk? Haven't even looked to see what they have right now.

When I say laid back, I just mean the food itself. I'm much more a shrimp po boy guy than some fancy pretty plate of food with shit I can't pronounce. Maple swings sound right up my alley.

wfh but I do have an office in chicago in the west loop

Eh a couple of nice bars would be cool but now that I’m older that’s less important. Mainly just being close to good food. I’ll catch some hawks and Cubs games I’m sure

Any advice would be appreciated. I can always come back to look at more places if need be if Oak Park sucks.

This is the place I was looking at for reference regarding where it is

Place looks great and is actually only a block from the green line.

I just wanted you to be aware of how annoying it is to go diagonally in the city. Like to go to Wrigley you'd either have a 40 minute drive or have to do two trains, including taking one south to backtrack to the red just to go back north

If I lived there I'd be effectively be ruling out ever visiting river north/lincoln park/wrigley/wicker park from your repertoire because of how annoying it is to get to any of them

west loop and united center wouldn't be that difficult though

Thanks, I’ll check out West Loop apartments too. Appreciate the feedback because I don’t really know anyone here at all other than one of my ex gfs, so no one to ask advice about where to live. Honestly just chose that area because it’s close to the city but not directly in the middle of everything. I live in one of the busiest areas in downtown Dallas and it’s wearing on me.

I’ll check out the West Loop before I decide on this place for sure.

West Loop is busy but it's more of a business and nice bar/restaurant area. It's not like the loop and Chicago is not that "busy" to begin with

You really do have to think about the winter when you're planning this. How can you get your ass from A to B without waiting outside or finding a parking spot when cars are covered in snow.

West Loop's biggest asset is how accessible it is to everything without being soulless like the loop is. Just for example, Presidential Towers is 10 minute walk to: the best dining in the city, a blue line stop (to O'Hare, Wicker Park, or United Center), Brown line, Green line, a bus straight up to River North/Old Town/Lincoln Park, and Ogilvie/Union Stations to the burbs. Hell, Wrigley is "annoying" and that's still under a half hour

I disagree because I like River North/Old Town/Lincoln Park, but don't blame you

Based on what you said you want and why you’re looking at Oak Park, check out the Lincoln Square/Ravenswood/North Center/Roscoe Village area which is north and west of Lakeview. Quieter than the neighborhoods previously mentioned by others but not dead and also not out on an island like Oak Park (I personally love Oak Park but location is a pain in the ass and as a transplant a north side neighborhood might be an easier transition in terms of developing a social life than a suburb like Oak Park) since you’re relatively close to all the hot spots like the Rat Palace (I.e., Wrigley), River North, The Loop, etc.

As previously mentioned, nowhere in Chicago is really that busy. Busiest is probably river north/gold coast but anywhere else isn’t too bad. If west loop is a little much for you, just north in west town/Ukrainian village areas are quieter and much better locations than oak park in my opinion. But any of the neighborhoods previously mentioned are great.

Mostly because of where I'm at in my life now. I lived in Gold Coast for 2 years, River North for 6 years, and Wicker Park for 3 years.

Now that I'm married with a kid I don't think I'd ever move back to River North.

If you are a transplant to Chicago and not married, I'd live in the city.

I'm biased because I lived there for 15 years but if you want great walk ability but not feel like its too busy, living in Lincoln Park, Lakeview or Roscoe Village is where I would go. The demographic is mostly young professionals or young families. I parked in front my apartment without issue but I was still a few minute walk to the train, grocery store, bars, etc. I

West Loop is a more fun area....but it doesn't feel like a neighborhood which I take he might be looking for based on the comment about where he lives in Dallas today.
