Oh I get it, man, and I’m not judging you for any inquiries. There’s just a lot of misinformation out there that I think is important to note. People’s imaginations have run wild with the Piedmont Park killing and it’s been frustrating. We’re a big city and there’s always going to be violence. That’s part of living in an urban area.
The crime porn Twitter accounts aside, the AJC loves to post clickbait shit then clarify four days later that the suspect and victim knew each other and that it was a dispute over whatever. But because of said clickbait, APD officers are having to go to neighborhood meetings and ease people’s fears.
Yea this was my point We have a media ecosystem operating like a much smaller market than they actually are. But obvious that crime stories are good for business.
Without question. What pisses me off is the potential long-term implications of this sensationalism. First it was the water boys, then is was freeway shootings (never mind that about half of those people were only on the interstate trying to drive to Grady), and now it’s a purported serial killer in parks (despite one instance being non-existent and totally different MOs between Piedmont and Gwinnett). This city whips ass and this bullshit pisses me off.
My grandmother and uncle are 2 of the 1559 in Taliaferro county. It's a pretty depressing place but they have a nice plot of land so I do enjoy visiting. Currently living in Chattanooga but wife is on board to move to Atlanta if she gets this work from home job. I'm originally a southsider and don't know much about North OTP even though that's where we want to move to be closer to family in Alpharetta and Dawsonville (on the lake). Any particular areas that suck or that have super shitty traffic. I know the latter may be wishful thinking will be an adjustment since we've always lived in an area of Chat where we can avoid traffic. I'm down for anything that isn't too far north though would possibly make an exception for Cumming.
My rule of thumb is if you are going to vote for Stacey in 2022, come on down. Just avoid Marjorie Taylor Greenes district. Otherwise its much safer and less crime staying in Hamilton County.
Have heard house pricing is crazy up there but anything Johns Creek Alpharetta is doing well. All have live-work-play “downtown” centers that give ppl faux urban amenities but you get more apace for Work From Home. And school districts.
Had to go to Alpharetta last weekend and it was a nightmare. SOOOOOOOO much traffic. Avalon was the most crowded shopping center I've ever seen. OTP north has worst traffic in the region imo.
Both parents and all aunts and uncles graduated from Forest Park HS. FP and north Clayton were happening spots pre 90s.
I live in Sandy Springs. Don’t move here or anywhere north of here. Unless it’s like north of where 400 turns into a dirt road.
I am otp south and I think it's the best spot if you don't want to be in the city. Also have a bunch of places to jump on 85 and be in the city in like 30-40 minutes. Edit: very red though
The house across the street from me is up for sale. Come on up to Mayretta, boys. I'm doing my best to scare away as many old white folks as possible.
Yep, everything is basically going for $50-100k over ask. We have had restraint up to this point bc we also dont need to move asap. Trying to be in Ormewood. But would take anything Oakhurst/Eastlake down west towards Grant Park. Lost 3 houses in Ormewood. We are currently in a 3&2 in Lake Claire, need a 4&3+. Kicked the tires on our own build in West End or Adair Park but have not been man enough to pull gentrification trigger yet. (Plus cost of materials and labor rn is like an Auburn buyout) Saw some stupid offers this weekend so still has not slowed down. Figured school starting would slow musical chairs.
Building is becoming more and more reasonable with the market going nuts. Price of lumber has jacked that up too though.
Are you renting in LC or do you get to sell high too? Yeah going form Lake Clair to West end would be a stark difference
Plan is to sell or rent to my Brother. But the buying part is all just about the principle of not paying insane price, fair game if i lose a house to someone who went 100 over; they can have that prize. Its hard to tell if this is just a plateau with a bit of inflation sprinkled in, or if there one day could be a housing bubble. Obviously the lack of inventory is killing ATL. But have salaries really gone up + influx of transplants to justify some of these prices?
My sellers accepted our modest offer slightly over asking bc we were willing to give them 30 days free post closing with an option to rent back from us for an additional 30 which they did. It lined up for us with our lease ending where we were only displaced for a few weeks. But as it turns out, the sellers are now in the same boat where they’re in limbo for two months with their sellers staying past closing.
I’ve been looking at condos as well and these HOA fees and suck my butt. I’ve seen multiple $750+ a month.
depends on your budget but townhomes are where its at right now. Can find some really nice new ones with full rooftop deck, some outdoor kitchens, WFH office on 1st level. And all being built close to transit + villages. and loads more coming on line soon
