It’s insane. Defense counsel on one today is insisting we do a depo tomorrow in person when we could easily do it on zoom. She refuses and asks me why we can’t do it in person… notsureifsrs So I respond with *gestures generally at the world with people dying everywhere* Her response was that of complete confusion at what I’m talking about. Jump in the river, asshole.
My hearing today over the defendant’s search for emails ended with our federal judge looking at the defense lawyer and recounting all the times he has sanctioned people millions of dollars or struck their answer and they had to pay tens of millions of dollars to settle. I think that’s a good sign.
have a case that my legal assistant was handling. dwi where the meds were just a small hospital visit with like a 2.5k bill. i told her to try to get 10 just looked and he has 3 dwis, one with a kid in the car, and a felony burlary charge. gave them until next friday to give me 30k limits or we will go get an excess judgment.
called adjuster to confirm limits of 30k gallant knight: your insured sounds like an enormous piece of shit adjuster: ok i'm going to go ahead and end the call
Anyone do foreclosure defense in a judicial state outside of Florida that can pm me? Potentially some representation opportunities as my RE company expands outside of Florida. Just thought I'd ask.
I’ve got a new assistant. I checked my email just now and between 6 and 7 tonight she sent follow up emails to all of my OCs that haven’t responded to deposition requests.
I'm assuming it is, but who knows. One day something is virtual, next day it's in-person down here. I can't keep up with it.
Took a 2018 Honda Accord that my teenage daughter drives to Valvoline for an oil change on Sunday. Drove it home and parked it until Tuesday, when she drove it to work. I came home Tuesday and found an oil slick down my driveway and into the street about 100 yards. I drove to her work, no oil in the engine. Now the dealer tells me that there are metal shavings present after three flush/change/runs and I need a $10,500 engine replacement. Valvoline not returning my calls.
Maybe so. I didn’t think there was much to this case but plaintiff’s counsel is working the shit out of it. There’s a few local guys involved but it’s mostly Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Huntsville lawyers.
I just watched a case with 20k in specials turn into a 1.95 million dollar verdict. Probably gave them some excitement/impetus to work the file. Who has the Plaintiff?
It’s not a personal injury case but that’s still terrifying. Primary counsel for plaintiffs are out of Birmingham. I’ll get their local guys when I get back to the office this afternoon.
Ha. So, I just looked at a recent filing. Assuming your username is related to your real name, you are suing my folks.
Oh yes. I know exactly which one you're talking about. Buckle up on that one. We're going to work that one hard.
Yeah, I was in Court and missed it. Can't remember who filed all those 12(b)(6)s which I was able to get denied without a hearing.
We do. I never had any intention of practicing down here. Just was doing some part time work in law school. But I got involved in this wild west and loved it. Now I know the politics like the back of my hand. It's an interesting practice.
Hahah, I saw that. Not sure who it was either. We told our client it would be a waste of money to file anything. Did you even have to file a response?!? I guess I need to start paying attention to this one.
So, as you probably know, our case has some bingo shit lurking under the surface which I find incredibly interesting/unbelievable.
Nah, no response needed. I’m in front of Judge a lot. Oh yeah. Bingo is so unbelievably corrupt and lucrative, it’s insane. Laura Gibson was pleading insolvency early in the case. I told her she was full of it.
Ohhhhh, so it’s gonna go like that? Good to know. I don’t know her at all, but early in the case she called one of my clients and said, “I know you’re represented, and I’m not supposed to be speaking to you, but can you confirm xyz…” Sketchy as fuck.
Yeah, that’s how it works here. I haven’t been too impressed with her. Initially, she kept trying to blame it on an adjoining land owner—was another Birmingham Defense lawyer’s property. He wasn’t thrilled.
Working on a decent CMV case with an absolutely horrible "in house adjuster." We are close but everything with this guy feels like pulling teeth. We are set in August and a little bird told me Harris County is about to cancel all jury trials for this month. So I am trying to get it settled today. Of course my client won't answer his/her phone. I love this job.
Georgia Supreme Court issued an opinion last week that absurdly does away with apportionment in single defendant cases, which is going to make for an awesome 10-12 months until the legislature gets around to fixing it.
