My brief thoughts on the rookies: Sewell: He is going to be a work in progress at RT, but he has shown signs of being the player we anticipate him becoming. I expect the light to turn on a month or so into the season. Onwuzurike: He looked good last night. He just needs to get healthy, but I think there is something there with this guy. McNeill: Stud. He’s going to be a player for us for a long time. Melifonwu: He’s super raw and shouldn’t play this season. I think he’s so raw he will never pan out, but he’s a lottery ticket. St. Brown: I don’t see huge upside, but he should be a #2 WR for us for a long time. Barnes: I think he has a chance to be very good. Considering he’s been hurt, it’s impressive he still is making quite a few players when he gets in the game. It wouldn’t shock me if he starts soon. Jefferson: He should be a rotational back. it also feels like we did well with our UDFA, AJ Parker specifically.
We have to fire Holmes if he doesn’t get us a QB in the next 2-3 seasons. That’s the main reason why any GM gets fired.
Also, I know Houston is really bad, but it’s hard to fathom any team in the league having a worse roster than the Lions. Houston without Watson is real bad though.
This amused me because Wickersham realized pretty quick he was screwed because Stafford for some reason has chosen to be the most boring person on the planet whenever anyone from the media is around.
I don't think she's inserting herself into the story. She's just the only one in the family who ever says anything remotely interesting or informative, so anything she says seems provocative by default.
Matthew is happy and excited to learn a new system. Reporter tried diligently to get him to throw some shade at the Lions, but he deflected at every turn. Reporter tried to audible to Kelly, but she was more circumspect than is usually the case.
You're probably right. Williams, Raymond, St. Brown and now Cephus are locks. Tom Kennedy has no real and the rest of them are practice squad-level. But Perriman hasn't been good and dropped another ball already.
He's among the youngest guys on the team, is playing a different position and didn't play football in 2020. I'm not too concerned with his initial preseason results. Best case is this is a learning season for him and we're bad enough to draft a franchise QB.
We had a franchise QB for the past 12 years and accomplished nothing. We should try building a team this time
Sewell has had flashes but he’s not comfortable at RT. Might be too late to make a move back to LT, but they might not have a choice if Penei struggles the first month of the season. I still think he’s going to be an elite OT, but it’s going to take a lot more time than I anticipated.
He has franchise QB talent, but not the personality to turn our loser franchise around. I think we should just take QBs in the first round every couple years until we strike gold.
I guess I don’t understand why it’s on the QB alone to turn around 60 years of losing culture. He wasn’t the one hiring GMs and coaches or making draft picks and signing free agents
If the franchise QB you are talking about is Fields, I may regret this opinion in the future, but I dont think he will be a better pro than Stafford is
It's not on the QB alone, but the all-time greats are generally the ones who lead teams. I realize my plan isn't a real option. I've just given up as a fan and this is the best idea my dumb brain can come up with.
The Free Press article noted that Mike Ford isn't vaxxed. Who knows if that played a role, but it probably doesn't help if you're a bottom of the roster player.
