Am I to understand that we are going to end a forever war AND Haliburton and desert mercenaries may be stranded there? Sign me up!
What a Hell of a Way to Die is a podcast by vets that's really good. They had a good and enlightening discussion today about Afghanistan. Worth a listen
Havent listened yet but Joe Cassabian, their guest this week, is a good dude. His podcast, Lions Led By Donkees, is also worth listening to
This was going to always end this way, it was only a matter of when. The only way to prevent it would be to set up "permanent" residence there.
they owned the countryside but the population centers were not under their control. Like I said it’s basically America where a bunch of religious zealots are in the rural areas
Imagine the amount of tax payer money some of these defense contractors have been paying the Taliban over the years to not fuck with them.
Anyone know if there’s anywhere to donate money to help charter flights for people out like they talked about on the pod?
Looks like the British have their SAS and SBS (Special Air Service and Special Boat Service) groups inside Afghanistan working to evacuate their citizens. I am fairly confident that we have either the US Delta Force or the Navy Seals doing similar as photos of 160th SOAR equipment has been seen at the Kabul airport this week. The 160th is the group responsible for providing air support for those special forces.
Yeah my guess is we have Seal teams and possibly Army Rangers along with the airborne out there conducting extractions. I would venture to say we are still there for at least 2-3 more weeks getting this mopped up.
I wonder if our media will continue calling it the taliban or if they'll start referring to it as the government of Afghanistan because that's what it is now
Those things typically carry a max of around 100 PAX, by the way. They have a huge lift capacity (they can carry 11 8ftx11ft pallets, plus other crap crammed in around it) but fitting almost 1000 people in there is insane.
This may be problematic. I thought the State Dept said they planned for every contingency, but apparently they didn’t plan for this.
Look like someone at the Pentagon has the same idea I do. (and a ton of other people much smarter than I am)
Also I was suspecting this might be happening in spite of what the Pentagon was saying. I think this may have been why there were AC130 Spooky gunships seen heading towards Afghanistan two or three days ago.
He is centre left, and he is criticising the right wing of the Conservative Party. He is anti Brexit, was pro public health early on during Covid, a Charity leader and a former International Development minister. What are you? As I said, I don’t agree with him in keeping a permanent presence there, but he is entirely correct on the moral bankruptcy of how Joe Biden and the right wing U.K. government left Afghanistan. He is also correct in criticising Joe Biden called them cowards- women who have been left to a miserable life being trampled on because Joe Biden had to have a domestic political win.
military occupation as feminist ideological project is the most brain dead take people have been making over the last week especially from right wingers
maybe the military industrial complex can shed decades of horrors and degradation within popular opinion by leaning on the shallowest of idpol dang despite a full on media pressure campaign the withdrawl is still popular
Looks like the SOF are going to be busy going to get more people if we can’t secure the airport entrances.
from CNN: The attack came a day after a US defense official had told CNN that officials were alarmed by a "very specific threat stream" about the ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan, which planned to attack crowds outside the airfield.
