Bergeron is a point à game player, not sure where you get that 40 ish points of offense? unless you are talking about his next contract that he will sign. That guy produced like crazy for a « defensive » center. 48 in 54 last year. Next year is his last year of that contract but I agree with you that bergeron will still be worth something even if he becomes the second line center later and produces less. Hockey iq is off the chart, couturier is a poor man’s Bergeron.
I think it did for a little while but then Marchand and Pasternak showed up and bergeron is a perfect center for any very gifted offensive wingers. i could see couturier doing something like that on maybe a lesser level but still a very valuable player that everybody loves playing with.
The Canadiens are waiting to hear how many more abortions Kane paid for so they can adjust their offer accordingly
But also until Pettersson signs I think there are people waiting to see if he he does sign an offer sheet somewhere.
There are only 4-5 teams that could swing that. (Without looking to see if they have all the picks necessary to do so)
It’s probably less than that, tbh. Detroit is positioned better than anyone because of all the picks we have made the last few years, and the lack of long term cap commitments. I doubt Yzerman makes that move though.
Bergevin making that dumbass offer gifted Carolina Aho on a team friendly deal, and might cost him one of like three centers Montreal has in its org. Truly spectacular work by Marc.
oh no they don’t , let him go and get the picks…well I think, does mtl get any picks if he signs with the hurricanes?
They will get a late first and third next year. For a guy they picked #3 overall three years ago. That’s a PR L especially since they’ve been hyping him as Barkov 2.0 for years
yeah, it’s a loss no matter what but maybe that’s the best deal they can make at this point. Take the l, keep the money and take the pics. Would anybody take that kotkaniemi trade right now. A first and a 3 plus not paying him 6,5 a year seems like a win for mtl
just a one year deal so they knew what they were doing, still a bit stupid and also not sure how smart It is for the kotkaniemi party to take that deal.
That’s a two year window. He could probably get 4 mil per for 4 very easily. Seems like a way better deal at his age but I am very bad at this. Accepting this offer is a risk for him, no?
On the 31 Thoughts podcast, Friedman said that Carolina gave Montreal a heads up the OS was likely coming. The teams had even discussed a trade a few weeks ago, but obviously couldn’t come to terms. It sounds like MTL wanted to leverage their team control into a cheap deal and KK wasn’t having that. Friedman believes Carolina knows what a long term deal would cost, so I assume a gentleman’s agreement is in place for a long term extension. So, it sounds like MTL might not match, with them looking elsewhere for a C (Friedman mentioned Dvorak specifically we a replacement).
Friedman also said that Eichel, the Sabres, the PA and the league all met together in Buffalo a few weeks back, and shockingly, no one changed their stance. What a mess.
is aho on what is considered a team friendly deal? Only 5 years so it spits him out as a UFA at 27. 8.5 million AAV is a lot for a 2nd contract that doesn’t get 7-8 years.
For a pre pandemic deal, I think it was great tbh. I think if he signed a bridge deal, Carolina would be in a worse spot now.
Watched Denmark qualify for their first Olympics over the pesky Norwegians. Nice that the NHLers were allowed to join the qualifying tournaments.
I once had two seats where the guy with the glasses on is at the bell center for a mtl/tampa game. Back then tampa was in between the two runs so stamkos and st-louis were on the team. Lecavalier was gone. I think both teams missed the playoffs that year. Not my favorite place to watch a game since you can’t see everything, it’s almost like playing for me since I am a goalie. You see the action come at you. but i enjoyed that game and the seats since I got to experience the ridiculous pace that these guys play at. It’s completely insane how fast they play. I would prefer upstairs but it was a good experience and I am glad I saw that first hand. Although it would’ve been more fun (or not) to be in net and really see exactly how fast it is. But seeing it from up close you can tell how nuts st-louis was, it’s not just about talent for that guy, he was getting bumped and abused all game long. Never backed down an inch. That is something you don’t always see on tv.
this is just stupid, he made the nhl early because he was never trying to take any chances. Not the other way around. Kotkaniemi was never a guy that created a lot.
