He's a Trump supporter that also supports men that bash LGBTQ and are accused of sexual assault. So excuse me for looking at it as more than just music.
I’ll say I’m not a fan of Manson or dababy but if we only listened to the music of good well adjusted people we wouldn’t have much to listen to. Kanye uses stuff like that for publicity. It clearly works. He doesn’t give a damn about any of those three idiots
I don't care if he really supports them or fake supports them for publicity. It's shitty to do either way.
Do what you do man. If conservatives felt the same way, no one we care about would have a career. Music makes its way to your ears and does what it does for you regardless of political affiliation. If it doesn’t, you’re doing it wrong
Bro supporting an LGBTQ bahser ain't politics. I'm not supporting someone that does that shit. Fuck him for it.
Ok? I’ll go with the music until I don’t. If his music reflects those ideals, I’ll stop. Simple as that. I don’t consume art like I do human beings. Else, I’d never watch a Clint Eastwood film
As a human being Kanye West has sucked for over a decade but I’ll be god damned if that makes me skip last call. Final mother fucking answer
can you watch American Beauty? Because that was one of my favorite films until I found out it was a documentary, now I can't watch it
That’s tough because I’ve only ever watched it the one time. That being said, there’s a difference being ideologically different and being someone who had sex with children. Kanye, as a human being sucks and I’ll never not admit that. I haven’t listened to Donda yet and don’t know if I will, but, if I listen and enjoy it, then I’ll listen again. Kanye West music is important to me because I love so much of it and it offers nostalgia.
still have four songs to listen to but about 15 of these tracks sound like outro tracks. i didn't have expectations for this album so its not like its disappointing. it just feels bland and not very good.
I agree but as mentioned above Last Call is one of the best Kanye songs of all time. So if you treat Jail/Moon that way I think they're worth revisits. Otherwise not great
Jail, Praise God, and 24 are my favorite tracks thus far. Jay Elec’s verse probably the highlight of the album, but a little personal bias on that one.
R Kelly is a POS from all indications, but he's one of my favorite artist of all time just from his 2nd album which most people don't even pay attention to. It's perfection in every song IMO. Separate ART from the ARTIST.
Yeah this is good. Antics aside this is fantastic. Agree it needs more Kanye and less guests but holy shit at the music on here.
I don't think it's awful but I'm beyond expecting very much from Kanye. I feel like most of these songs feel like he came up with one good line and just made a whole song out of it. Way too much filler. I could listen to Hurricane and Jail a good amount but don't see myself coming back to much of this music after the first couple listens.
Jail, Off the Grid, Hurricane, Moon. jail track had me ALMOST believing he was going straight back to the old stuff. overall it’s too long and chaotic but best attempt since Yeezus
It’s taken me a couple days to get through this album and my word what a fucking chore. The songs start to sound similar (if not for the diverse features) about 6 songs in. Shits awful. 3/10 Kylebw1 Nas dropped the rap album of the year at 50 years old and Kanye dropped a bloated, incoherent mess of an album.
This is always the issue with releasing a concept album that is pretty much the same sound throughout. On a 10-12 track album, it can be alright because you only need to vary up 1 or 2 songs to break it up. But with 26 songs, it just becomes the same noise and cant be differentiated.
Oh I definitely like a couple tracks but this isn’t an album meant to grab some songs off for the playlist. This is meant to be an album that you start at the beginning and let play. It ends up wearing itself out quickly tho and that’s a huge problem
so extreme metal has a huge 'separate the art from the artist' issue. it is most acute in black metal, a sub-genre originally from Norway. a lot of this has to do with the nature of black metal itself, which attracts extreme individuals (just read this wiki if interested: Mayhem). there are more than a few black metal bands who have far-right, ultranationalist members. there's even an entire sub-genre (called NSBM) that write songs glorifying Nazism. it's fucking gross. setting NSBM aside, there are many non-NSBM bands that have members with abhorrent political views, who have songs that are totally devoid of this type of controversy. they write songs about nature, religion, history, etc. this includes some of the most influential and recognizable bands in the genre. so the question is, if you categorically reject NSBM, do you also categorically reject all of the bands that are known to have members that harbor horrible political views, and thus a huge majority of the black metal canon? or are they ok, because you are separating art from artist, and the bands themselves don't actually sing about things that are horrible? do you just not listen to black metal to be safe? what if you like the music? i'm a huge hip hop fan as well, and i find that it is equally challenging to apply this perspective to hip hop, where lyrics routinely deal with murder, selling crack, and misogyny. this Kanye / Marilyn Manson / Da Baby debate had me thinking about it a lot - curious to see the thread's take.
