There are people on EV pages that say sure, it’s public equipment, take the cord. I’m against messing with people’s property without a word with them. That’s super asshole Karen shit IMO. Most of what you see blocking chargers seems to be gas cars parked there for no good reason. It also seems to be slow chargers that get filled up and not your typical fast chargers that you’ll use like a gas stop. I’ve never had the issue myself.

Re: trip planning - with just a bit of preplanning and getting to know your car, chargers, and apps those sorts of issues are non-existent. It’s happened to me by my own haste and lack of research. Of course there are situations that you can’t plan for, but I’d estimate those to be pretty low risk. There are trade-offs, but to me the benefits gained greatly outweigh the potential drawbacks.
I mean yeah, you can’t just take an exit and expect fast charging to be there like you would gas. If Tesla really opens to all EVs at reasonable speeds and cost then there will be like zero excuse for 99% of the population.

I've only really watched Tesla road trips on youtube but none of them have had issues with stations being full/out of service, mainly because they aren't really popular in middle america. Also the tesla navigation knows chargers that are out of order and wont route you to them and it also tells you how many stalls it has and how many are available.

But if you look at some videos of people in LA trying to charge, you'll see full stations and a line of cars waiting. So it kinda depends on where you live/road tripping to.

I can’t say this enough - don’t expect it to be the experience you’re used to. It will be different. 75% the same. Some things not as great as a gas car. Others better. You have to have your mind open a little to learn (it’s stupid easy) and adjust.

Truth. After having my Model 3 for three years, I've changed a bunch. Range anxiety was real. I'd have it all over again if I changed from a Tesla to anything else. I just know I can trust the computer and supercharging network when I'm on the road. Relying on the "other" chargers would give me a lot of anxiety.

Now that I'm used to it, I can't imagine going back to an ICE.

Google Maps in my Polestar is great at showing available chargers. It tells you how many are in use and what charge you'll have left when you get there.

You also can't just pull the plug on the car once it's charging. You have to have the key to unlock it.

Haven't had any issues finding chargers.

Anybody have any insights into the Ford Options plan. Basically plays out like a lease where you claim the tax credit. Everything I’ve read says there is no added depreciation risk even though you own the car but just trying to decide if I am missing something. If car is worth more sell it on your own and pocket difference after balloon payment and if car is worth less Ford pays you the agreed upon amount and eats the loss?

Right. You’re locking in ford’s purchase price. You can also keep the car or sell it to someone else and just pay the balloon.

I live in North Carolina and drive to the coast a good bit. Have never seen a super charger station full, closest is the one near me in Raleigh, North Carolina was like 9 full out of 12 stalls one time. Only time I've been a bit worried was when I went on a vacation about 1.5 hours away and forgot to charge up before I left. There were no super chargers on the route but the hotel had a charger there so wasn't too worried. Problem was they had two chargers with a Tesla overnight on one and the other didn't work. Got lucky though and they had a sister property a mile away with an open charger. This was one time though in a year that I have owned it and was 100% my fault, if I had just charged up would have had plenty of charge to get there and back without even worrying about finding a charger.

I have a lightning reservation that I placed during the reveal show, so hopefully I’m pretty close to the front of the line. If I decide not to purchase by the time they convert to orders I’ll keep it and if someone like Name P. Redacted wants to pick up that order I think we can work that out with Ford/dealers.

In your defense you planned well enough to stay at a place that had chargers. Tough luck one was broken and the other was already used. Not 100% your fault.

This shows that even with decent planning things can go wrong, but apparently not the end of the world.

I just did my first road trip using my Model 3 (SR). I was a little anxious at first because I wasn't sure how it would all work out, but I can report that the whole thing was a breeze, and I had a much more enjoyable time on this road trip than I did driving my ICE truck before.

Went from Atlanta to Tallahassee to Orlando, and then from Orland back to Atlanta.

I spent most of the time on the highway letting the autopilot do it's thing. Obviously I was paying attention and all that, but it definitely took a lot of the pressure off for the drive, and I didn't feel as exhausted as I normally would after like 11 hours of driving.

As for charging, the supercharger network was great, the navigation system took me where I needed to go to charge up, and I usually only waited like 15-20 minutes to charge up enough to get to the next station. I really liked stopping a little more frequently to get up, stretch, use the bathroom, get something to drink, check my phone and respond to texts or whatever, etc.

    Highly recommend.

I mean if you’ve got a chance to buy a Ford or Rivian that has no charging infrastructure, worse performance, less range, less technology, and significantly more expensive than the Cybertruck, you’ve gotta do it right?

I think Ford killed it with the Lightning.

Just have to wait til they actually have it in production to see what the outcome is, but the reviews of the initial vehicle are pretty impressive.

Killed it? All they did was make it look like the current F150 and whiffed on literally every other spec compared to Tesla. I get the Cybertruck looks ridiculous but it beats the competition in every aspect. Wake me up when the Lightning has the performance and charging ability across the country. This is coming from a former F150 owner btw.

People are so desperate for a Tesla competitor that they move the goalposts a mile. If Ford even had a chance of matching Tesla’s specs, I’d order one today. But they can’t. And they won’t.

I want a Cybertruck so bad. I don’t need one at all but I want one. At least 1 of my next 2 vehicle purchases will be an EV but the CyberTruck is my five star pick. I like the mustang EV as well and it might serve me better for my inner city purposes but the CyberTruck is just cool.

Well the ~300 miles of range is also if you're towing 1000lbs, so it's possible not towing anything the lightning could get some crazy range. And we don't even have real world data on the cyber truck so idk what you're comparing at this point.

You also have to remember there are lots of people who aren't gonna like the look of the cyber truck so by keeping the f150 exactly the same looks wise, it doesnt create a barrier. And the end game is to really kill barriers to EVs so more people can get them.

You can drive most EVs in ‘regular mode’ that will coast. Like afb said, it’s 1000% worth it. You also return energy to your battery, which usually just negates the extra energy used to restart. I haven’t been in the mountains yet, but I’ve talked to people with Teslas that have significantly recharged coming down. I was headed down a big hill last weekend off of a river bluff and saw my battery go up 2%.

Weirdly, this is one of the things I was worried about with EVs. We live like 1000’ and 5 miles outside of town. I literally coast almost the entire way down in my current car. Wasn’t sure what that looked like with an EV.

Making it look the same but being faster and can power your house is the genius of it. This makes guys who unironically use the terms cuck and liberal pussy buy an EV.

Also remember with that "Powering your house " perk you will have extra costs of a transfer switch and inverter and you will have to purchase the larger charger i believe if your model doesn't come with it. I'm definitely getting a lighting but will probably wait another year or so to see consumer reviews.

I could be wrong but I think a huge part of the cybertrucks look is about it's drag coefficient, so making it as efficient as possible. I hated the look at first but it's started to grow on me. I do like the F150 a lot though too, that's why I put a deposit down on both (not getting both, will probably just get whichever I can first) I do have a feeling that the cybertruck will beat the shit out of the F150 when it's all said and done though.

What’s with the recent craze of 4 wheel steering that the Hummer has and the CT will allegedly have? Didn’t GM have it a few years ago on their Denali trucks and then went away from it? Seems like another moving part to break for very little functionality.

I am somehow just now discovering this world of free EV charging that exists out and about.

Downloaded the ChargeHub app along with PlugShare and a couple others. What am I missing about this, what's the catch? Because there's a "free" charging station right next to a coffee shop that I frequent, and I see no reason I couldn't just pop it in and get a little juice for a couple hours while I get some work done.

There's also a charger at my work office that's $0.85 per hour that's probably worth using even though I've never done it.

There’s no real catch. Most of the free plugs are either sponsored by local utilities or are meant to attract business. Be a good person a spend some local dollars when you plug in at the coffee shop or on a square. That’s it.

They can't do it like this. They have to mix the content in and can only build a certain amount every hour to maintain line rate (i.e. they put in floaters that do some of the added EV content that would put the "base" jobs overcycle). On top of this, major model launch will drive a significant amount of on-site modifications that will have to be performed before the vehicles can ship. Couple that with the fact that both factories making the F-150 have near-crippling absenteeism rates right now (Kansas City has effectively run out of people to hire; people don't want a sub-$17 job in a factory with no air conditioning), along with thousands of unshippable units in on-site inventory, and I would say the targets of 70k over the next two years are unattainable.
