Weaver's methods are a little weird for me, but he's put them in position where they're flexible with the cap to do a bunch of different things depending on the development of the young players progresses. I appreciate that.
I don't think it's even possible for us to trade for him. At the very least, Grant and probably Okynyk would have to be in the deal.
According to trade machine it is impossible without us adding Cade. Bey or Stewart to the trade. Everyone eligible to be traded beside those 3 (including Grant) would fall 3 mil short of a legal trade. Can't add Olynyk until after 3 months of the date he signed his contract. That rumor makes zero sense for so many reasons
It's nice to be relevant enough to be included when agents and front offices leak bullshit "trade interest" stories.
That Wall stuff is based on this tweet. I have no clue who Mitch Lawrence is, but I'm inclined to believe he's an idiot based on this. Houston is trying to move one of the worst contracts in the league, and Wall's not easy to fit just anywhere around the league. How exactly are they going to "win" that transaction? And what the hell does the Harden deal have to do with it?
I don’t think there is any way they get rid of wall without giving up significant assets. And they did the harden thing specifically to tank
And they would have to give up even more now or during the season if he's not going to play games for them.
As of right now I'd gladly take a top 4 pick and get any of Chet, Paolo, Duren or Hardy. Another solid big man or an elite scoring SG are both things that this team could use. Cunningham and Hardy would be a fun backcourt
It was HS but Chet made the entire Ypsi prep team look silly. Of course everyone on that Ypsi prep team other than Jaden Akins was playing “give the ball to Emoni at 25 ft and let him throw it at the rim”
Not going to put too much stock into Summer league, but Cade was almost not involved in the offense when Killian was on ball. Killian has also shown me nothing yet that shows me he should be a nba starter at the moment. I think you're better off letting him run the bench unit right now.
Killian can’t do anything else offensively, so we kinda have to do it this way for now. Long term the offense should belong to Cade. Killian could be a great secondary playmaker if he develops a respectable jumper. It’s not gonna work if he doesn’t.
Why hamper cade potential because killian can't do anything on offense? Just keep them seperate, it's not like killian has earned more than bench minutes anyway
Killian has played like 25 NBA games. No idea how anyone can pretend to know one way or another if he’s good.
With no summer league, batting injuries, and playing with a team that had never played together before in the slightest. We just have no idea about the guy truly yet.
I'm just saying Cades development is top priority, I think it's ass backwards to suggest we do anything to hurt it to benefit a guy who was not near the talent Cade is pre draft and has shown nothing (in limited time admittedly) to suggest he's got more upside than Cade
Because they’re both like 13 years old. I’m assuming you want Cade to play a lot, right? So “separating” them means Killian plays 15 minutes a game? I know the dude has been brutal and if I had to bet today I’d put money on him being a bust, but it’s way too early for that shit. We’re not winning anything anytime soon. Cade will have plenty of time to reach his potential. In the meantime, we should probably give Killian more than 1/3 of a season to show what he can do instead of playing someone else to win five more games this season.
Rookie point guards regularly play off the ball at times as part of their development. It won't cost Cade anything.
If Killian helps us suck ass again next year (which he will), and get us a top 4 pick, play his ass 30 minutes a night. he’s definitely a bust, we should play his ass. Although Cade needs to be the primary ball handler.
Play Cade ~30 minutes a night, play Killian ~20-25 minutes a night. 18 minutes or so when Cade resting and another 2-7 overlapping to give cade some breathers seems reasonable to me
I don’t think Killian/Cade were bad when they played together in summer league. Cade/Killian/Saban Lee lineups were terrible. Killian can’t shoot. He has to fix that. He has visible skills in most other facets of his game
Seems more reasonable to play them both a ton and let them improve or confirm their bust status. You’re treating these rotations like it’s the NBA finals. It’s not that complicated right now. Play the kids.
We’re definitely going to run Killian and Cade out there as starters most nights. If they weren’t planning on doing that I imagine Weaver would have probably already moved him
I watched most preseason games, Cade sat in corner when Killian was in, completely different player without him. In fact espn did an article where one of their guys said it was the biggest dissapointment of the summer league having Cade play with Killian or Saben "Schmitz: Watching Cade Cunningham stand in the corner while either Killian Hayes or Saben Lee consistently started and ended possessions was maddening. Using Cunningham as only a part-time ball handler is stripping him of one of his best skills (passing) while making him look ordinary. The situation reminds me of when the Dallas Mavericks tried their best to make the Luka Doncic-Dennis Smith Jr. pairing work before ultimately giving Doncic the keys. With the ball-dominant Hayes clearly not the level of player the Pistons were hoping for when they surprisingly selected him seventh overall, Detroit would be wise to shift Hayes to a bench playmaker role, using Cunningham as the lead initiator with the starting unit."
LaMelo Ball played 28 minutes a night last year and yall acting like I'm trying to bury Killian down the bench suggesting he play 25 minutes a night
Well, in our defense, it’s sorta tough to keep up when you keep changing your argument. It went from separating them to 20 mins to 25 minutes in ten minutes of posting.
