My first suggestion would be one bottle of Lopez de Heredia Rioja Vina Tondonia Riserva. Should be pretty widely available. Agree on Willamette Pinot Noir, but generally some of the smaller producers that make great wines in the 25$ price range aren’t widely available. https://www.wineberserkers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=177959&sid=e7e57445d58e87fad4f1cabce3b1669e Edit: this is also a good thread
The cost increases of premium Rose Champagnes is comical. I feel like the price changes every invoice I get for Krug/Dom/Ace Roses. For a sub $100 rose champagne - the starter rose at several michelin 3-stars in Paris was this: https://www.wine.com/product/laurent-perrier-cuvee-rose/10521#
You won't find many great vineyard or AVA specific Oregon Pinots for under 30 dollars imo. Instead it'll likely be a blend from vineyards across the Willamette Valley. If you do go with an OR Pinot under 30 and sometimes 25, I'd recommend Avaraen.
These are just standard Veuve magnums - but had an artist do them for an event, probably going to going to get some more done.
Arnot-Roberts Gamay and Trousseau order day! Threw in a few Zin and Sauvignon Blanc for good measure.
This is actually the first A-R offer I'm going to pass on, in hopes of going deeper on large format whites in the next one.
I passed on the rose offering earlier. I just love the gamay and trousseau and haven’t found similar wine at the same price level locally.
Just got the email for the upcoming Sandlands offer and THAT'S one I'm going long on. I can never keep those around long enough.
How quick is everything going to go? I bought in the spring so I should be getting an earlier email. Do I have to be ready the moment the email drops?
At least from my experience, you get a guaranteed allocation for the initial window. I buy right when I get the alert though, so even if I'm wrong I've never actually missed out.
just added 12 bottles of 99 point pinot from paul hobbs as well as 9 bottles of 2018 to kalon and 3 to kalon magnums yipee
also, the 2016 highest beauty probably the best cabernet i've ever had. https://www.tokalonvineyardcompany.com/
Coach K tried to swing on my buddy last night at Hotel Villagio in Yountville seems relevant to the thread coach k also big nickel and nickel guy
cuz my buddy is an asshole tbf it was a huge misunderstanding where coach k thought my buddy told him to “come over and sit on daddy’s lap” but it wasn’t meant for coach k
yes we are at a wedding and are sharing the hotel with some huge V foundation gala Jay Bilas and Jon Scheyer were eating breakfast at the table next to me this morning. I got to small talk David Robinson last night, told him I thought his son was doing a good job at the Olympics. My wife randomly had wine with Jim Boheim last night it’s really been odd
No video but this picture was after the comment and that’s my idiot friend who had the misunderstanding no was not meant for his wife, we were trying to move a flower arrangement off a table. My buddy drunkenly yelled at the guy with the flower arrangement in his hand “sit it on daddy’s lap” coach k was behind the guy and thought the comment was directed at him the red was flowing that night
This popped up at my CC. Never had hundred acre before. Seems like each bottle is $500+ Seems like it’s worth it? Eathan Edwards
Yea that's like a $2,500 lineup of really great wines. I would definitely try to attend that one. Plus light Hors d'ouvres!!
I’m in your city today. Staying in WeHo where should I go get a nice glass of wine pre-dinner? We’re eating at Gracias Madre before hopping on the red eye back to NYC.
Might sound stupid, but it looks like a good deal **if these are your kind of wines**. These are among, if not the, most jammy, full-throttle, definitely has RS, Napa Cabs out there.
Don’t have much experience with full -throttle Cali cab in that style. Perhaps they may be too young as well? Just don’t know when I’ll have the opportunity to taste them. Sure as hell not paying steakhouse prices. Recently picked up a mixed case of Cimarossa for the price of the tasting for myself and my wife. Puts it in perspective.
Cabs in that style, for my palate, age like shit. So I'd imagine that whatever pleasure I'd find would be in their youth if at all. But again, your palate might be different.
What is the average price of a bottle? I might be interested, but can't pull the trigger at this exact moment.
Going to Napa next month and struck out on French Laundry but nabbed a SingleThread res. Do you remember what your menu was?
We went pre-pandemic so I’m unsure what they’re doing for menus now. We did their full tasting menu and it was just an incredible experience. You’re honestly lucky you struck out at TFL, so underwhelming
I had a great experience at TFL. Granted, a family friend and regular put in a word and we were comped a bottle of Dom ‘08.
The most annoying and bullshit part of TFL is the “how much are you willing to spend?” wine pairing. You are supposed to tell them how much you want to spend and then they tailor the wine list to that number. Just a cynical way of doing it. Just have three levels and give me the names of the wines, don’t try to fleece me or make me feel like I’m not spending enough on the pairing
