    No, I'm giving you a completely disingenuous response. This is what we do.

    We don't yet know how effective the human form it is against covid. We should cautiously, optimistically await results of clinical trials.

    This is a link to the manufacturer of Ivermectin. I am pretty sure they have a better grasp on what Ivermectin is used for than pretty much anybody. Here is there statement on Ivermectin. They are referring to the human version, not the horse paste so stop the he bullshit with your horse paste false flag argument you twat.

    https://www.merck.com/news/merck-statement-on-ivermectin-use-during-the-covid-19-pandemic/

    KENILWORTH, N.J., Feb. 4, 2021 – Merck (NYSE: MRK), known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, today affirmed its position regarding use of ivermectin during the COVID-19 pandemic. Company scientists continue to carefully examine the findings of all available and emerging studies of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 for evidence of efficacy and safety. It is important to note that, to-date, our analysis has identified:

    • No scientific basis for a potential therapeutic effect against COVID-19 from pre-clinical studies;
    • No meaningful evidence for clinical activity or clinical efficacy in patients with COVID-19 disease, and;
    • A concerning lack of safety data in the majority of studies.
    We do not believe that the data available support the safety and efficacy of ivermectin beyond the doses and populations indicated in the regulatory agency-approved prescribing information.

    Indications and Usage for STROMECTOL® (ivermectin)

    Ivermectin is approved in the United States under the brand name STROMECTOL. STROMECTOL is indicated for the treatment of intestinal (i.e., nondisseminated) strongyloidiasis due to the nematode parasite Strongyloides stercoralis and for the treatment of onchocerciasis due to the nematode parasite Onchocerca volvulus.

    there are many many treatments for covid being studied all over the world right now outside of vaccines and that has been the case ever since covid started

    i'm confused at this narrative as i've seen it a lot, when it's not remotely true

    I was speaking in the past tense, including pre-vaccine, when therapeutics and masks/social distancing seemed to be at odds, when they shouldn’t have been

    One group (seemingly on the right) was pushing therapeutics and generic pharmaceuticals like hydroxy as an alternative to lockdowns and masks

    An opposing group (abstract, hard to define) didn’t seem to want to entertain those alternatives at all

    the consensus was we didn't have any evidence any of the available options worked during this time period, so pushing hydroxychloroquine in lieu of masking/distancing was lunacy. interesting they don't push that one anymore (it's because the conspiracy theorizing works better when people can just go to the local feed store vs having to beg for prescriptions)

    the ones we had that were likely to work, monoclonal antibody treatments, were not going to be widely available for a long long time so depending on them was also lunacy.

    giving the benefit of the doubt to that first group based on the evidence at hand is....interesting

    I think it's important tease apart its use as a therapeutic from use as a prophylactic. I know vaccinated individuals who have procured it in the event they were to have a breakthrough case, and would treat with it at initial symptom onset. These are not RWNJ chud anti-vax/anti-mask spreadnecks, just folks who want to feel empowered in the event they get sick. I can understand why people who have gone to great lengths to protect themselves from covid through masking, distancing, and vaccination might want to throw the kitchen sink at it should they get it. While it very well may not provide any benefit, taking a dose or two of ivm isn't likely to harm them.

    Lumping these people in with the losers who refuse a free and efficacious vaccine (and who are harming society) and talking down to both camps seems like a misstep.

    Why stop at ivermectin? There's a never ending list of "treatments" with limited or altogether fictitious evidence, if we're somehow inexplicably willing to throw the kitchen sink at patients.

    Finasteride
    Spironolactone
    Singulair
    HCQ
    Famotidine
    Melatonin
    Luvox
    And many more!

    No one should be prescribing ivermectin for covid outside of a trial.

    And I want to clarify none of this intended as any sort of slight at benchwork, which should go without saying provides crucial groundwork for clinical investigation, in addition to its other essential purposes.

    General public just doesn't really appreciate that controllable, closed scientific vignettes in the lab rarely translate to the infinitely complex system of the human body

    I've heard this before, and appreciate the rarity of a drug that shows promise actually making its way to drugstore shelves. I think that's why when a drug shows even a hint of effectiveness in clinical trials, it's met with fanfare. it's fair to say the huge majority of drugs do not make it to that point, correct? I think, based on what I've seen (though it's not easy to parse through all of the info), ivermectin has shown *some* of that potential in clinical application.

    There was a comment along the lines of: it's an anti-parasitic, it's not going to help with covid!

    I responded with info about it being effective in inhibiting viral replication in vitro. Which is not to say YES it will 100% for sure help with covid. But is to say that just because it's an anti-parasitic does not mean there are not other features of this particular drug which could work in helping against covid, and there is at least some scientifically valid evidence that it could. As you said, the odds of that being true are slim. But there is at least science behind the idea, and it isn't randos in lab coats throwing shit against a wall to see what sticks, like, hey, here is an anti-parasitic, let' see if it helps (which seemed to be the implication of the comment I responded to).
