I make shots when I’m like holy shit how did I hit him. Then five birds in a row are layups and I miss all of them
Nice young 6pt I watched this morning. There was a smaller 8pt with him that never came out to the corn/soybean mix
I got something to plug into my phone. It gets me by in the woods until I can get to my laptop. What exactly are you looking for?
I tried one of those. Bone view or collector or something. Didn’t work for me. My laptop is a little MacBook and it doesn’t have an SD port. I’ll try one of the little AA powered hand helds.
You do hook it up to transfer pics off to your device, if wanted. I'm a redneck and just take a pic with my phone of the screen lol
I have an iPhone and use the SD card reader accessory to check mine. Works with either an iPhone or iPad.
You can do that or just buy a little bit nicer tablet and be able to use if for a few other things. If you don't already have the capability to put it on your laptop try and get a bigger screen. It makes it easier to sort pictures quickly.
Got a 5point tonight. Sat last night for the first time this year and let 5 walk. Tonight it was raining, this guy came out and I watched for about 10 minutes. He decided he was going back in the woods, but I had other plans. Now I can doe and trophy hunt for the season Spoiler
Had a good hunt on Tuesday. It was drizzling the whole time which actually kept us cool. Shot like 65 of them between 5 guys. I shot terribly. Hadn't shot since 2019. I got 5 of them. My bil got 25 for comparison. Had some fried dove and someone had shot some squirrel so some fried squirrel as well.
Found a new shooter on a different part of our property (video) and had one we chased last year show up again a couple days ago (pics). The buck we had last year broke off his left side down to the base about a week before gun season started.
Honestly surprised there is any decent deer left after last year. 7 deer taken off the area we hunt over that score over 160. Including these 2 both killed by my brother. His fucking wall is ridiculous.
I've got a surprise nice spot behind my uncles house who physically cannot hunt anymore. Nice little stream runs down to the creek and it's off of a 200 acre 8 year planted growth. He has oaks all in the bottom. Just put my cell camera up yesterday and they annihilated the 1 bag of cob corn I had in a week. Going to put more corn out today at lunch and head out Wednesday or Thursday morning
Got skunked in the dove field last night. I knew we were gonna have a bad time when a hawk flew over the field a few times and not a single bird popped up. Our entire group of five shot two birds, both Eurasians. I did learn something though, a few beers while out in the field while hunting and having a bottle of red in the cooler for when it's over is the way to go. That bottle of red was like a beer after mowing the lawn, cool and crisp and made me feel all hoity-toity.
Newest half season of MeatEater just dropped on Netflix today if you're a Steve Rinella fan like myself.
TBH should check out all MeatEater content on YT. They've upped their YT game in the last year or two. Pardon my Plate/Das Boat/Fur Hat Ice Tour/etc
Love these guys. Haven't watched much of the MeatEater, but THP is great stuff. Really hoping they don't get demonetized like some of the other YT hunting channels I watch. The Seek One guys, who basically hunt suburban zones, got demonetized recently, and they can't really figure out why.
Found a couple nice rubs, one very fresh, and a scrape this morning. Been putting out a little bit of corn by the pond and the fresh rub was a nice big one just off the back wooded side. Let a 4 point walk last year, hope it's him. Muzzleloader opens Saturday. Can't wait.
Bow season opens for us today. Can't get in the stand this afternoon, but it works out. We have a "cold" front pushing through overnight and into the morning, which is going to drop the temps about 15 degrees and give me a NW wind. This guy has been showing up right on the edge of legal shooting light every night for the last week. Showed up last night at 6:50 pm. Fingers crossed he keeps that up for two more afternoons, or maybe shows up a little earlier in the cool weather Saturday. I'd love to open the season by the closing the chase for him.
Well, one afternoon is in the books. He showed up at 5:40. If he repeats that pattern again, I’ll get a shot tomorrow.
Watched this 8pt this morning for 30 minutes. Going after the other guy that I've been playing tag with
Sat on Sunday morning. Doe got spooked at like 70, surprised me, wind blowing toward me and I didn’t move. Looked down and see 4 coyotes. First coyotes I’ve ever seen in the stand. Ended up seeing 8-12 throughout the morning. None would get close enough for a shot, but they wouldn’t fuck off so deer stayed away. Cool morning sit though.
Never had any side view pics of this guy, and he came out facing me as well. Came out last night around 640pm in shooting light. Was hoping and thought he was an 8.
Shot another hog tonight. It was right at last light. I got down and checked for blood and my arrow. Couldn’t find either. I know I hit it solid, but after getting chased by a group of hogs last week and not having a pistol again, I wasn’t going into the woods looking for it. Gonna go back tomorrow and find it. My buddies killed 5 hogs over the weekend with a thermal image scope. So, that’s 7 total hogs in 10 days. Maybe they’ll stay away for a few days.
Got absolutely skunked Sunday in the dove field. Can you midwest guys send some birds for split season?? Thanks in advance. We've got some okay looking deer at our ranch, but I won't shoot a buck smaller than the last one that I shot, and it was a nice basket 10. So, I guess I can shoot a doe, but I'm a bit freezer full right now and don't know if I want to fill it with that much venison. So, I might be putting my guns up until I replace them with golf clubs. Just a weird year in our part of Texas with all the rain we've had and no birds and no muy grandes crossing my game cameras. I guess that's why they call it hunting rather than shooting. I guess I can hunt pigs and coy-dogs, but I'm getting too damn old to sit up all night varmint hunting. Maybe it's time to get a fishing pole setup and see how many crappie I can pull out. I haven't fished since I fished the Smith River in Montana a few years ago. That trip will make you look down on fishing your regular hot spot.
You can’t put a dent in them by shooting them. The only way to truly manage them is by trapping. We killed 50 in 2 days with traps. If you wipe out the sounders, the boats will leave too. Re: your shot, lot of times, even a well placed arrow will stick in the thick fat shield they have over their vitals and not mortally wound them. They’re tough as fuck.
Last years drought is over. Just dropped a little doe with the bow, waiting to see if a buck was following.
