Some character issues to say the least. He had an ND offer but I seriously question how legit it was (same for his Michigan & Northwestern offers) because he doesn't fit that mold.

I thought he was offered by ND and then he camped at ND. After that camp the ND coaching staff didn’t pursue- the reasons are vague

his parents also work for Purdue

Injured running out to the field? I can’t imagine he was hurt being tackled by UConn. Also was it the kid from Penn? That would suck missing an ND game in your hometown.

Coaching is one thing and like Niles said, they have had an exodus of players heading to nearby Edwardsburg. I’ve watched them twice and they are brutal.

Their little league football runs the Penn offense at all levels so they are ready when they get there, but when they were really good they had farm boys that beat you senseless. Now they are just kids. I was laughing when they were playing St. X because those were dudes.

They’ve had an overhaul in their schools. They are one of the best public’s in the state. They are also still “small” at like 600 kids in the HS. They also hired a really good coach who runs option and dominates all the way up until they play Detroit schools. Niles is about 200 kids bigger and has a much improved football team. Edwardsburg beat them Friday like 61-7.

We just historically have gotten into way more and higher profile recruiting battles with USC than PSU in the past based on our recruiting footprint.

Worst part about this is I feel like usc, for the first time in 20 years, has the right guy in the AD office to make the right hire. It’s still a crapshoot and anything can happen, but there’s not that built in dysfunctionality

-Coaching/play style, they bent over backwards to accommodate Powlus and pissed off a lot of people. Kid should’ve been a fucking TE or OT.
-They don’t fully control the youth program anymore, there are Mishawaka, Marian, SJ connected people in Granger’s youth leagues now… don’t even think it’s called Rocket anymore.
-Population decline, transient families, can think of 3-4 D1 players that moved away in the last 4-5 years.
-Sports specialization and/or football not being a priority, anecdotally one coach (former ND player) told me he’s been really frustrated with certain kids who don’t want to get too big bc they play other sports… so you have a DE with lots of upside, ~6’3 200, but doesnt want to gain weight because they wrestle at 195lbs. Dumb shit like that.
-Options… I think the culture has changed, maybe I’m old man yelling at clouds, but you wanted to play football for Penn back in the day bc you were kings of the school, the local community, no one gives a fuck about that status anymore. Guy I played with has a kid that’s 15 6’2 215, quit frosh football bc he wants to stream video games.

    Loy article today

There are 21 prospects from the class of 2022 currently committed to the University of Notre Dame. Of that group, there are 15 four-star players and six three-star prospects. That collection of talent is ranked No. 2 nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. However, the class isn’t done quite yet. There is room for more talent on the commit list and there are some big names still to pick Notre Dame before all is said and done.

So, where do things stand with the remaining targets? Here is my gut feeling on some names from the board.

    SLIDE1 of 13
Notre Dame hosted Pike Road (Ala.) high school three-star running back Quinshon Judkins for an official visit when the Irish took on Toledo this past weekend. I’m told the visit went well, the staff enjoyed their time with him and his family, and he had a good time hanging with running backs coach Lance Taylor, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, director of recruiting Aaryn Kearney and offensive director of recruiting Dre Brown. I’m still waiting to see Notre Dame push to land him, but that may not occur quite yet, as the Irish still have a few names they are working on and remain patient at the position in their search for a second back to join four-star running back commit Jadarian Price. For Judkins, after missing the start of his senior season with an injury, he returned to the field this past week just before his Notre Dame visit. He rushed 20 times for 111 yards and a touchdown. It was a nice return, as helped lead his team to a 28-14 win. My gut feeling is that he ends up somewhere other than Notre Dame, but I don’t feel great about any one program in particular.

    SLIDE2 of 13
As of today, I’m going to remove Bluefield (Va.) Graham three-star receiver Xayvion Bradshaw completely from the board. He had narrowed his recruitment down to Notre Dame, West Virginia, Toledo, Purdue, Virginia and Arizona State. If the Irish were to have pushed, he likely would have visited and committed shortly thereafter. Until I’m told that things have changed and they are welcoming him to campus, he’s not a realistic target to have the board. We pride ourselves on accuracy for the legitimate top targets and as of today, he’s not in that category. We’ll see if anything changes in the coming months. My gut feeling is that Notre Dame doesn’t come back around on this one.

    SLIDE3 of 13
Amarillo (Texas) Tascosa three-star receiver Major Everhart is heading to campus this weekend. As of this point, the plan is to have him in town for an unofficial visit for the Purdue game. Not only will he get his first look at Notre Dame, but he’ll get a chance to watch his friend and former Tascosa high school standout running back King Doerue in action for the Boilermakers. Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and receivers coach Del Alexander seem to love Everhart because of his big-play ability, explosiveness, speed and versatility. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s a legitimate playmaker at both receiver and running back. Notre Dame seems to be very much in play alongside TCU, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Baylor and a handful of others. My gut feeling is that Notre Dame makes a move this weekend and becomes a major contender with a strong offensive performance.

    SLIDE4 of 13
Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab four-star cornerback Austin Ausberry has Notre Dame in his top group alongside Michigan, LSU, Auburn, Alabama and Florida. He just took an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor to check out the Wolverines and he has official visits lined up for later this year to see Auburn on Oct. 9 and Florida on Dec. 10. He’s expected to take all five officials before all is said and done. LSU is the perceived favorite per the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Ausberry says that he’ll return to South Bend for a Notre Dame game, but is unsure which game and whether or not that’ll be an official or unofficial visit. I’m told Notre Dame is keeping him warm at this point and hasn’t made a major run yet. We’ll see if defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman and cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens eventually turn up the heat or not. My gut feeling is that he doesn’t eventually make the trip simply because I think the Irish will be full in the secondary.

    SLIDE5 of 13
I genuinely can’t believe I’m writing this on Sept. 14, but Fond Du Lac (Wisc.) St. Mary’s Springs four-star offensive lineman Billy Schrauth remains uncommitted. Notre Dame was the team to beat for a very long time and I’m told he essentially informed the staff he was coming. The Fighting Irish had a huge lead. Then his official visit to Wisconsin happened and everything turned quickly. The Badgers staff did an outstanding job that weekend and seemed to push to the front for Schrauth and the majority of his family. All that said, despite a strong feeling from those close to him that a commitment was coming around the season-opener, one still has not occurred, at least not according to the sources I’ve spoken with. According to sources at Notre Dame, the staff feels Schrauth will return to South Bend before making a final decision, at least that seems to be the plan as of today. Before that, Schrauth tells me that he’ll be inside Soldier Field on Sept. 25 for the big matchup between the Irish and Badgers. He’s going to watch his two finalists up close. My feeling today is that Wisconsin leads, which is reflected by my 247Sports Crystal Ball, but if he gets back to Notre Dame once more, all bets are off. My gut feeling has him picking Wisconsin, but I think things change if he shows up at Notre Dame one more time.

    SLIDE6 of 13
Notre Dame has been a major player for Dayton (Ohio) Wayne high school four-star offensive tackle Aamil Wagner for quite some time. The Irish have been battling Ohio State, Penn State, Maryland and Kentucky for his services. There have been some rumblings that the Wildcats are pulling ahead for his services and the latest rumors have the staff adding his brother, former Kentucky receiver Ahmad Wagner, to the staff in some capacity. According to those I’ve spoken with, the majority seems to believe that’ll wrap it up for the Wildcats. As it stands now, Notre Dame remains hopeful that Wagner returns to campus at least once this fall to check out the Irish in action, and are hoping to see him in town for the USC game on Oct. 23, if not sooner. My gut feeling has him ending up with the Wildcats.

    SLIDE7 of 13
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral four-star defensive lineman Anthony Lucas is one of the top-ranked and most coveted players at his position this cycle. All of the heavy-hitters are pushing to secure his commitment, but not all of them are still in play. Back in early August, Lucas narrowed his focus to seven finalists. Notre Dame, Miami, USC, Oregon, Texas A&M, Alabama and LSU all made the cut. If you talk to those connected to each staff, literally every single one of them has some optimism that he could eventually pick their respective program. He’s playing things pretty close to the vest, so it’ll be interesting to watch how this recruitment plays out. For the Irish, they will get him back on campus one more time before he makes a final decision. Lucas will be in South Bend for the game against USC. A big win and a stellar performance, especially on defense, could greatly help Notre Dame’s chances. He’ll also visit Texas A&M for the Alabama game on Oct. 9 and then hit Alabama for the LSU game on Nov. 6. I believe he already visited UCLA, USC and Miami this fall. A trip to Oregon could occur as well. My gut feeling has him staying out West.

    SLIDE8 of 13
If you’re looking for a most important target this cycle, all eyes are on Des Moines (Iowa) Southeast Polk four-star safety Xavier Nwankpa. Notre Dame will have to replace future first round pick Kyle Hamilton, the All-American safety, and Nwankpa has the talent to step in day one and push for a starting job as a freshman. For a very long time, the perception has been that this was truly a battle between Notre Dame and Ohio State, with Iowa as the dark horse contender. However, the latest intel suggests that the Irish and Hawkeyes potentially have pulled out in front and might just be the top two at this point. Whether it’s true or not, that’s the feeling by multiple sources. He’ll be back at Notre Dame this fall for the Notre Dame vs. USC game on Oct. 23, but could be back before that as well. Either way, I like where Notre Dame stands at this point in his recruitment. I think the Irish lead, but I’m not ready to put in a pick quite yet. My gut feeling is that he ends up at Notre Dame.

    SLIDE9 of 13
Notre Dame is in the Top 5 for Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman four-star defensive end Cyrus Moss. The talented prospect can go to just about any school in the country, but it’s the Fighting Irish, Oregon, Alabama, Clemson, Arizona State and Florida that have separated themselves as the major contenders. Most believe Oregon is the team to beat right now and I haven’t really heard anything to make be think any different at this point. The Irish have a shot and are working on this one, but this one seems unlikely to work out in Notre Dame’s favor unless he’s able to get back to South Bend and check out the Irish in action this fall. As of today, nothing is set on that front. My gut feeling is that he sticks out west.

    SLIDE10 of 13
Notre Dame remains in play for Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy five-star offensive tackle Zach Rice. However, just about everyone I have spoken with regarding this recruitment has him eventually landing at North Carolina. There has been some chatter about Virginia potentially pulling off the upset, but very little pro-Irish talk. My gut feeling is that Notre Dame ends up finishing in that Top 3, but I still like the Tar Heels to get this one done, at least at this point.

    SLIDE11 of 13
Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic four-star defensive lineman Hero Kanu visited Notre Dame unofficially and had a great time. He will be back in South Bend for his official visit on Oct. 23 for the Notre Dame-USC game. This will be a great opportunity for the Irish, led by defensive line coach Mike Elston, to make a great impression. My gut feeling is that Ohio State is the team to beat, but the door is very much open for the Fighting Irish, as well as USC, depending on them making a splash hire with its new head coach.

    SLIDE12 of 13
Just to add, since there was some contact, I’m told Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star cornerback Domani Jackson did have some dialogue this week with Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman. However, it seems as though the USC commit is remaining focused on the Trojans, Michigan and Alabama. The gist of the call was essentially informing Jackson that if he ever wants to visit Notre Dame, they would love to have him on campus for a visit to give them a look at what they are doing. My gut feeling is that he eventually sticks with his commitment to USC, as long as he’s on board with the new hire.

The last of my gut feelings is that new names will emerge on the Notre Dame board in the coming months, both on offense and on defense. I don't believe everyone that will end up in the 2022 class for the Irish are names listed here. The board will expand, new prospects will jump on the radar, and there will be plenty of intrigue during the Early Signing Period and on National Signing Day.
