I can’t personally speak to him. I’m not super tuned in there, but I can name 4 Powerlifting coaches that I personally know that have done it. It’s predatory people going into a space and taking advantage of the power dynamic of a coach/client relationship
Edit: One Two but I’ll just say that male coaches that have mostly a female roster definitely definitely follow a trend
I hit 505 and 405 exactly 245 on bench still, and did 150 strict press since they were testing those at my gym this week too Pretty pleased with not regressing on bench and hitting a new PR on the strict press without really training those lately Gotta stop skipping upper body day
Have always struggled with consistent DB progression, definitely think I’m gonna buy those microgainz hensleya. Kinda brilliant idea for home gyms
Really like damn, why couldn’t I think of that I have a nice DB collection but still some gaps in there.
So I’m going to be announcing something pretty cool… a board of experts for GGL. I can get thoughts/quotes from them for articles, etc… and generally just build up some additional authority with them on the site as part of the “team” So far I have Aaron Horschig from Squat University (huge get), David Otey (advisor to men’s health mag and writer for muscle and fitness), Dana Santas (mobility expert and CNN Health writer. Husband is assistant director of health and performance for NY Yankees), and Ray Zingler (up and coming S&C coach and good friend). Ray has an in with Jamal Browner (he often trains in Ray’s gym) so I’m trying to add him. looking for some suggestions from y’all on who else to add. Would like to add PL (maybe Jamal), strongman, Oly, and CrossFit. Then maybe one or two more experts in the overall space. Someone like Kassem Hanson, who I can probably get. thoughts?
Agree with Capstone 88 are you going to move towards having them or future experts creating/producing content for GGL?
In process of figuring that out. To start, they’ll be a reference point but id love to have some of them contribute on the writing side eventually. In general trying to figure out out how to bring on another writer or two. A freelance sorta thing if I can find someone who’s passionate about fitness/equipment and can write well and with SEO in mind.
Not the strongest guy out there but deadlift panda (Yangsu Ren) might be a good add? Super technical and is really engaging with followers.
Starting a new training cycle to prep for my first oly meet on 10/23. Looks like there's just two of us in my weight class and the other guy has a declared total within reach if I can get my shit together. Shooting to hit 165/225 I hit 150 and 215 in training Saturday, I'm getting 165 high enough on my second pull of the snatch, just need to learn to stabilize it. 225 same thing on the jerk, I'm getting it high enough on the drive just need practice working at that weight more frequently so I can get confident enough to get under it. If I could hit those that might be enough to win.
I’ve seen a couple people with big pulls have a very controlled eccentric. Idk if that’s causation or just coincidence but something I may try to implement
lol no i'm not very good at the oly lifts I do like the idea of having a 505 max deadlift and being able to hit a 496lb clean and jerk though
Do you follow Sam Taylor for oly? He's got a relatively small following on socials relative to some of these guys but I think he worked with USAW on training for their lifters and he does some online coaching. I enjoy his content. @balanced.athlete on Instagram and @samtlr_fitness on Tik Tok
I'm thinking you need to round out the perspective of your board. Sure, those folks know lifting...but what about the perspective of the 40 year old, moderately overweight, not overly tall amateur? Just saying... But great idea, man.
i too am interested in monetizing my hobby. as a new home gym owner, with a small but loyal online following(thanks mom), i think i fit this niche perfectly.
You're going to want content creation from someone who is bad at lifting...I don't see that among your experts yet.
Decided to try to test my squat today instead of Saturday. I guess partying at a college football game all weekend and underrating/sleeping is not conducive to that. Tweaked my back on my 540 opener
Home gym problems — bought a trap bar, improved my deadlift to the point where I can no longer add any more weight. Time to upgrade - have the Eleiko in mind. Any thoughts?
Anything and everything training and equipment related. If I’m reviewing a belt squat, for instance, I could get Squat U’s thoughts on biomechanics behind it. If I’m reviewing something powerlifting related, Chad… etc… Can do straight up interview style content. Lots of options. Won’t be for everything, but will be cool. Just having them on the “team” page as board experts with the pics and bios will be huge by itself.
