Are co-ed suites common? I know co-ed floors are but when i was in school, one end of the hallway was male, the other side was female and then a common area in the middle.

    Hi guys

Due date was September 28th so we travelled to Nassau a few days ago to be close to the hospital as per her docs recommendation. Figured it would be a nice chill time for a few weeks. Went to the doctor yesterday and the she has turned breached and my wife's blood pressure has skyrocketed. C-section booked for Friday morning. Been kind of a mental whirlwind. So looks like I'll be a dad a few weeks earlier than planned.

Honest question here.......do any of you have any insight on what the best way would be to explain LGBTQ to a 8 and 4 year old. We've got some neighbors that are and one is female, the other was born female but recently had double mastectomy and identifies as male. It's making the her/him thing a little difficult as my kids keep calling the one her. I've tried to get my kids to call them by their names instead of giving them a label as the one has a name that can be either sex, but I can tell they are very confused. We hang with them every once in awhile and I don't want to offend anyone. TIA

Yeah, we're Bahamian. Live on a different island but Nassau is the closest real hospital so they usually recommend being here the last few weeks of the pregnancy.

Maybe not for freshmen and sophomores, but this is a suite complex for upperclassmen. It may have been part of the preferences questionnaire that he filled out last spring.

Back at Cal in the 80's the dorms were generally co-ed with some single-sex floors, and senior year I was in a student-run co-op where people chose rooms by seniority, and if guys and dolls wanted to share a room it was no big deal.

Getting my youngest a balance bike for his 2nd birthday. My older son (almost 5) we never really got a bike for since he didn't show as much interest. When he sees his brother get one he will though. Is 5 too late to start on a balance bike? I feel like he will still think it's cool even without pedals.

Lol. That’s me in our relationship. I was overly coddled and told I was smart too often growing up, so if I can’t figure out something in two seconds, I get irrationally angry, blame everything but myself, and give up. Luckily, she enjoys home maintenance and super challenging projects like moving a car seat

Edit: Learned helplessness in case anyone is looking for the term. We’re the worst

My 13 year old who is extremely bright has decided he doesn’t give a fuck about school. He has a 49 in science. The rest of his grades are low B’s and C’s. I have tried taking things away like his Xbox and phone but he could care less. He coasted through school last year by manipulating teachers into letting him do extra credit for late assignments. He had a huge project last year that he just blew off completely because he said he knew he could still pull off a low B in the class.

My wife and I were total overachievers in school so this just not caring blows our minds. I have even considered pulling him off his travel soccer teak but that won’t make him change either. Anyone got any advice on this?

Part of the problem is I work a ton because I own a restaurant and my wife is a pharmacist that is currently working a ton too because of Covid. We can’t be there to stand over him to make sure he does his work. Part of me thinks he is at an age where he shouldn’t need me standing over him. Hell my youngest is 11, is ADHD, and has Autism Spectrum disorder. He makes straight A’s too. Shit pisses me off to see how hard he has to work while my other son is just lazy.

Sorry for the long rant but I’m contemplating beating him at the moment I’m so pissed looking at his progress report.

Honestly I had the same issue around that time in eighth grade and a lot of it was because I started suffering from depression. I wasn't a super overachiever before but I definitely stopped giving any amount of crap for a good chunk of time.

This is the one child I can't get a read on about stuff like that. He is super outgoing but also seems very self-conscious. We have been dealing with some similar issues with his travel soccer team where one week he is a top player and the next he is totally checked out.

Was talking to one of the TMB OGs yesterday, a.tramp (#hunblebrag); and we were discussing how frustrating it is to have waited to have kids and now due to covid, not being able to go do anything.

It’s hit home a couple times recently when I have wanted to give my wife a break and take mini THF out on errands. I do most of the grocery shopping and so she rarely leaves the house. It would be nice to take the little guy with me when grocery shopping or hell, to go to Home Depot and walk around with him.

It hammers home how frustrating this time period is.

It’s obviously a personal decision with how isolated you choose to be. We were locked down pretty tight last year and it was tough. Both of my kids are back in school and doing a few activities this year. I’d say we are 67% back to normal. It’s also a mindfuck because I have to compartmentalize putting my kids in higher risk situations vs keeping them miserable at home.

    Shit sucks.

Yea I am a bit older and my son is 13 months old at the moment. For me; I never thought I would end up having kids. So I am little more protective than most and I am fine with that.

For me; in Texas, it’s the overall lack of pediatric ICU beds which really scare me as if something serious happened; who knows if there would be room for him due to covid patients and staff exhausted from the other cases. Healthcare workers are overworked right now and that is part of why we are over cautious.

On the flip side, my wife loves to plan events to do, so being stuck at home on Saturday’s to watch football all day with the little guy running around, isn’t a bad compromise.

One thing to consider is he is possibly bored and not challenged. What you described was similar to how I behaved when I got bored and lost interest.

You and your wife being overachievers gives a little indication the kid is probably smarter than the average child and might be ready for more complicated stuff

It might make sense to see if you can find ways to challenge him with more advanced subjects.

Hey anybody ever get a notification about a lvl 3 sex offender moving onto their block? Just got an alert from our dept of public safety about this. Our block is p much all homes with infants to school aged kids, like 4 blocks from the elementary and middle school. Looks like halloween on our block twice a day. So I'm a bit unnerved, seems like about the worst place for someone of this gentleman's stature to land.

I’m a forensic psychologist that does sex offender evals. Not sure if it helps your nerves, but you really shouldn’t be worried. Most sex offenders don’t re-offend and if they do it’s generally with someone they know.

I think most states have a database you can search by zip code that will tell you sex offenders in your area and what they did. the vast majority seem to be of the nature mentioned above (at least when I have looked)

I accidentally signed up to coach my 3 year olds soccer team. Never coached before but even being just 3 year olds I was very conscious of trying to get equal playing time, giving every kid enough attention/high fives, etc. After 1 game, 1 GAME, a parent called the league manager to say during the practice all I did was make the kids run sprints and then during the game her kid never played among other shit. All wildly untrue. He called a few other parents and they confirmed she was full of shit. Manager called her back, she cussed him out, she was then shown the door. I couldn't believe at 3 parents already act like this.

7 year old complained to me that his lunch account didn't have any money so he couldn't get ice cream today (Thurs is the day his grade can get ice cream at lunch)
Fucking school lunch money app didn't send me a message that he was low on funds like it normally does.
I felt like such shit for him missing out.

Then just now a daughter of some friends of ours comes over with her 2 year old. Little man is talking to her and asks how old she is. She says she is 29
