We've had many threads before but they're all archived at this point. What's the better album? Both from 1994
Ran through August and Everything After randomly yesterday. That record continues to age incredibly well.
I never got Oasis. Seemed like their brother drama fueled their popularity as much as anything, and their biggest song is a guitar player’s punchline.
Revisit. I wasn't on them in the 90s either but reflecting now it's just exquisite. I'm hooked on the song "Supersonic" right now. The chord progression, the guitar tone, the anthem chorus. First two records are just full of gems.
Both were good , I just think the Blue Album was better. Hurting Oasis is probably the fact that (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? followed a year later and was a better album.
Weezer’s Blue album, as others have said, is an utterly perfect record. A great achievement for rock music.
I listened to Morning Glory and Live Forever in their entirety last night and I have the latter ahead. Morning Glory does have the timeless singles Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova. But I think the songs on Live Forever have an even more classic quality. It occupies this weird space between good old 60s/70s rock and roll and what was to come in the 90s. The songs feel like they just fell out of the sky.
Pixies - Trompe Le Monde Temple of the Dog Metallica - Black Album Pearl Jam - Ten Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger RHCP - Blood Sugar Sex Magik Nirvana - Nevermind Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend Live - Mental Jewelry
Shiggityshwo you can bring the indie flavor if you want. I was listening to major labels back in the 90s but I know some about the good indie bands. Pavement, Built to Spill, Dinosaur Jr, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel etc
I can buy Blue or Pinkerton as the best. Pinkerton is more sophisticated and complex musically, and more direct and heartfelt lyrically, but Blue is just so pure. Again, the songs feel like they always existed somewhere instead of being composed
we're the same in that regard tbh, not exactly indie but Blind Melon's two albums are the most underrated imo, their self-titled would be up there as a contender for my favorite from that era
Might be a hot take, but I think it's pretty easily Sparkle and Fade. Album is just so fucking good, and while Santa Monica is the hit, Summerland -> Strawberry -> Heartspark Dollarsign is as good a trio of songs as any. Underrated record and I wonder if it would've been more successful at the time if they picked better singles. Heroin Girl as a lead single? Come on.
Agree wholeheartedly. I actually just found Summerland last year. That's a jam that causes me to turn up the volume
The Crow soundtrack and Spawn soundtrack are two awesome albums. The NIN cover of Dead Souls on The Crow soundtrack is one of my all time favorite songs spawn may be pushing it on the rock side
Chills when the vocals first kick in. "Someone take these dreams away...that point me to another day"
Another good 90s rock soundtrack. "I'm Deranged" (edit) – David Bowie – 2:37 "Videodrones; Questions" – Trent Reznor featuring Peter Christopherson – 0:44 "The Perfect Drug" – Nine Inch Nails – 5:42 "Red Bats with Teeth" – Angelo Badalamenti – 2:57 "Haunting & Heartbreaking" – Angelo Badalamenti – 2:09 "Eye" – The Smashing Pumpkins – 4:51 "Dub Driving" – Angelo Badalamenti – 3:43 "Mr. Eddy's Theme 1" – Barry Adamson – 3:31 "This Magic Moment" – Lou Reed – 3:23 "Mr. Eddy's Theme 2" – Barry Adamson – 2:13 "Fred & Renee Make Love" – Angelo Badalamenti – 2:04 "Apple of Sodom" – Marilyn Manson – 4:26 "Insensatez" – Antônio Carlos Jobim – 2:53 "Something Wicked This Way Comes" (edit) – Barry Adamson – 2:54 "I Put a Spell on You" – Marilyn Manson – 3:30 "Fats Revisited" – Angelo Badalamenti – 2:31 "Fred's World" – Angelo Badalamenti – 3:01 "Rammstein" (edit) – Rammstein – 3:26 "Hollywood Sunset" – Barry Adamson – 2:01 "Heirate Mich" (edit) – Rammstein – 3:02 "Police" – Angelo Badalamenti – 1:40 "Driver Down" – Trent Reznor – 5:18 "I'm Deranged" (reprise) – David Bowie – 3:48
This had that one cool U2 song This had that one cool Smashing Pumpkins song This had that one cool remix by Bush
I know grunge gets all the attention from the 90s but I felt it was a much more enjoyable pop-rock pop-punk or industrial decade.
Grunge is awesome. The second half of the 90s popular rock music that was inspired by grunge is maybe the worst period of rock-n-roll music ever.
grew up in dallas, so it was a pretty steady run of amazing bands around that time between toadies, butthole surfers, tripping daisy, reverend horton heat
Personally I just found stuff like Everclear, Weezer, Oasis and Green Day more enjoyable than Nirvana and Alice In Chains. I was in the minority then so nbd
