My middle child loves 90's music especially Smashing Pumpkins. Got to take him to see them a few years back and they were really good.

Watching Eddie Vedder sneak around in the bushes behind Chris Cornell wailing in Hunger Strike is an all-time amazing music video.

Damn they made some good music and videos on in the 90s.

I’m probably not only the lead conductor of the Nirvana train on this board, but also the AIC hater train. It is better.

That said, when I listen to one, I have to listen to the other. It’s a rule.

Down in a Hole is mine.

It’s beyond comprehension that Layne didn’t write much of anything, because he emotes in such a way that one would automatically assume all of those songs were his.

This could be the most quintessential, nostalgic 90s song for me.

Also disappointed we're on page 6 and no mention of Dinosaur Jr or the Melvins.

texas band that had one big commercial hit ‘I got a girl’. Played a lot on MTV. They were local and my older brother and his buddies like them so naturally we liked them. Their concert experience is one of my favs. Just trippy and the dudes have a blast.

here are a few good ones

Definitely on my playlist. I like most of their stuff prior to Sweet Oblivion, but they really hit their stride with that album, and Dust. If you haven’t listened to Last Words: The Final Recordings, it’s worth giving it the time. It came out about a dozen years after it was recorded, and again, a lot of good stuff.

Speaking of Dinosaur Jr., they’ve aged like fine wine. Their music the last dozen years or so starting with Farm has been my favorite, and I loved their stuff in the 90s.

Couple other honorable mentions I haven’t seen mentioned, in no particular order.

Pavement, Crooked Rain, Wowee and Slanted are all fantastic front to back

sebadoh, bakesale is a great album

    Afghan Whigs: gentlemen

    Sonic Youth

    Deftones

    NOFX, Pennywise and Bad Religion

Finally, maybe I glossed over it but Sublime was fantastic as well. No where near my rotation now because they were just so played out. Not their fault obviously but so fucking talented. If I missed someone who posted, apologies. But that catalog is strong, if that dude lived he may have produced one of the all time catalogs. Just unique and talented.

Thinking it over this morning, I might need to change vote to "Over Now." I like plugged version too but unplugged version may be even better.

Live version is in my rotation. Think I saw it live 3 times, always liked the song, enjoy the live version the most. I’d probably enjoy the original live version more if the audio quality was on par.

Deftones are one of my favorite bands.

They get unfairly lumped in with nu-metal because they were playing downtuned 7-string guitars in the late 90s. I think they are so much more multifaceted and unique sounding. Some of their later stuff is like heavy dream pop.

I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like Sublime.

In the 90s I only knew this song and "All The Kids Are Right." In the last year or so I've found some deep cuts I like too. They are heavier than I thought.

They are actually playing a small club here in October. Probably gonna check that out

Their catalog is deep and varied, definitely a few later albums that didn’t ‘take’ for me.

    1. Around the Fur
    2. Adrenaline
    3. Diamond Eyes
    4. White Pony
    5. Deftones / Koi No Yokan (tie)

after that, it’s select songs depending on my mood. ive been spending a lot of time with Saturday Night Wrist, which is pretty under the radar. it’s incredibly somber and dark: the band was about to break up, a lot of drug abuse.

if im in the mood for it, it’s a great album. it channels those dark feelings with the best of them.
