hah, yes - 'Everything' i actually listen to that song regularly to fall asleep on flights. it's pretty good. i'm going to put my hate shield up, but 3 Dollar Bill Y'all and the first 3 Korn records are...not bad in hindsight. i'll never regularly listen to them, but they were essential albums for teenage me. i wouldn't be a metalhead without them.
also, to those mentioning Blind Melon's early albums, i agree. those were awesome rock albums. man, i miss the 90s.
The first Korn album is the best hands down. Almost every song on there is good. The next two are a little more hit or miss, but still some good stuff. I jammed to "ADIDAS" when it came up on shuffle this morning
What happened to that guy (Travis Meeks)? He came on the scene with all that talent when he was like 17. Don't think I've heard of since. I know the rest of the band went on to form Tantric
I feel like the rest of their catalog is kind of forgotten about because of 'stars', but the first two hum albums are also 90s classics.
Hell yes! Pack Up the Cats played in my car nonstop for months. The opening track still makes me feel some sort of way.
NOFX The Decline is still one of the most impressive music showings imho. An 18:20 song with no breaks at all. So good.
It’s hard for me to rank Deftones albums because I feel like it changes all the time depending on how I’m feeling. If I’m going overall: Around the Fur Diamond Eyes White Pony Adrenaline Koi No Yokan
Pavement (and, yes, subsequent Malkmus and the Jicks) are among my favorite bands OAT My all-time favorite recording artist, though, is Beck. And Mutations (1998) is my favorite of his records.
So many one and done mainstream songs in the 90's. Not saying Filter didn't have other good songs but back then unless you bought the CD or it was played on the radio you didn't hear it.
There have always been one-and-done acts but it seems folks itt were paying attention most to Alt Rock buzz music back then.
I would say it was a product of the time. radio and mtv were the primary source for finding out about new music unless you had a buddy that worked at a music store or an older sibling or something. as an example pavement is easily one of my all time favorite bands and I pretty much love everything stephen malkmus does, but I only heard them in passing on 120 minutes or late night on the radio until I really dove into their catalog in the early 2000s.
Loved Local H from the start. Been to 5-6 club shows over the years. Their music is just as good now, IMO. Each new album I’m shocked they’ve been able to get it made.
Crew: “hey director, how you want to shoot this music video?” Director: “I don’t know, you want to fuck with epileptics?”
remember hearing this off the Great Expectations soundtrack and loving it. Venture Bros used it like fifteen years later for a finale episode in one season to perfection. know fuckall about the band but by god I love this song.
I saw Soul Asylum and 7 Mary 3 at a small college gymnasium in the early 2000s. Soul Asylum’s head singer was so fucked up he could barely stand. He basically just screamed into the mic and staggered around the stage the whole show. 7M3 was great though.
Last page triggered thoughts on Live and Candlebox. I wasn’t the biggest fan but they put our some good solo songs.
Throwing Copper by Live was v good. They never really approached it wrt quality in subsequent albums however
Throwing Copper good all the way through. Mental Jewelry also mostly good songs. Secret Samadhi a few standouts
Korn was one I never got into. I remember listening to Life is Peachy for the first time after I had heard all of my friends hype it up and I hated it. To each their own I guess. Not strictly rock, or 90s alternative, but have been listening to Rancid's And Out Come the Wolves album this last week and it holds up against the test of time so far imo.
yup, it wasn't until college that I realized Blind Melon actually wasn't a one hit wonder with a song I didn't even particularly enjoy, just a lot more difficult at the time to dive into a group's catalog and hear what they're all about most of the time I wouldn't buy an album until I'd heard a few singles on the radio that I liked, that or a friend would already have it
Life Is Peachy was the second one. What about the first one? I get you had to be a certain age and probably male to enjoy it, but it definitely resonated with me. I'm honestly not sure how you couldn't love a song like "Faget" at age 13 (not you particularly, but just like anyone)
This was my intro to Korn, first single on the first album. When he goes "are. you. READY?????" it's the signal to start breaking shit
I liked that song quite a bit too. I quit buying the albums after the first 3, but that was one I liked from the radio
Considering how many of my peers were into them from about 95-98, I doubt you're alone here. I suspect that a lot of people in their mid 30s to early 40s who profess to hate Korn secretly jam out to them in private.
I wasn't in trenchcoat mafia or anything. There were definitely a couple kids that liked Korn that you could see being the next school shooter
Detuning the guitars and everything be sludgy puts a timer on how long I can listen to them in one sitting but they have songs that I like.
For sure. I remember the early Korn crowd being skater types rather than trenchcoat mafia types anyway.
