I saw My Morning Jacket last night at Forest Hills Stadium. What a great show. I have never seen them live before, and they are such a throwback to 70's rock live. They reminded me of a cross between Pink Floyd and the Dead live. I highly recommend seeing them if you get a chance. playlist... PSA: Anyone who has the opportunity to see Yves Tumor needs to do that. Saw them yesterday and was completely floored. Rock maximalism at its most wonderful. One of the best sets I’ve ever seen. Most everyone I saw this weekend was solid, but other standouts were black midi (they fucking ripped unsurprisingly), Hop Along, Big Thief, Bartees Strange, Faye Webster, Waxahatchee, and oso oso. Phoebe was a little underwhelming as a headliner but this was the first time I saw her post Punisher so it was cool to see her do those songs.
Yeah it was at pitchfork. Great fest again, except for the dust. Gonna be coughing up dust for a week… They also played at the empty bottle last night, which I imagine was incredible in a venue of that size. I decided to watch the bears instead because I’m really really really dumb
Not saying this to be a dick or edgy or anything but did you wear a mask? Asking for the purposes in relation to dust and such. Having done quite a few jobs when I was younger, outside of getting something truly heavy duty the cloth covid masks are basically useless.
Yeah I was wearing a mask when I didn’t have a drink, but it was super hot out so I had it on and off frequently when I was drinking water/beer. I don’t think it would have made a ton of difference either way because of the sheer amount of dust. It’s later in the year than they usually have it due to covid, and then they’ve had other festivals in that same park a few weekends ago so the grass was all dead and it was just dirt/dust getting kicked up by people. It’s a limited downside of getting to see live music again.
Don't want to force comps, but Mini Trees is touring opening for Julien Baker right now if that gives you an idea stylistically. Bad Bad Hats did a big opening stint for The Beths.
Appreciate. I understand not wanting to compare everything to something else, but the "for fans of" type deal can be helpful for browsing the thread
Saw Phoebe last night, she was absolutely magnetic. I can definitely see why it may not hit in a festival setting, but with a crowd showing up solely for her vibe, it was tremendous. Amphitheater was packed to the gills. Played all of Punisher and the best stuff from Stranger In The Alps (Scott Street, Motion Sickness, Funeral, Smoke Signals and a solo performance of Georgia). Closed with a Bo Burnham cover for the encore. MUNA was excellent as the opener.
I can’t take them seriously after that “how to make an alt-j song” video with the second guy high as hell munching on a sandwich.
New Andy Shauf is solid. Think it's pretty much Neon Skyline b-sides. Haven't listened to these guys in years, but I don't hate this song. Kinda has Ryan Adams(fuck him) vibes.
