Won my first club tournament (team) a couple weeks ago. Playing a Ryder cup style tournament this weekend at Ross Bridge and member/member is in appr. 3 weeks. Expensive month but can't complain.
My friend made the quarterfinal of mid am this morning. Tees off at 1230. Assume the semis and final are tomorrow if he advances. He is on the heater of a lifetime.
7 under through 12 in the quarterfinal lol. 6 up with 6 to play. My guy missed the city am cut by 5 strokes a month ago lol. Talking dream land stuff.
Absolutely loved playing Paiute wolf and snow yesterday. I should have played snow then wolf though. Wolf was definitely the better course but I just was dog shit on it. Would have liked to be warmed up before playing it.
Unfortunately a bogey bogey bogey start (all 3 putts) undid my friend Hayes who lost to Hagestad in the semis this morning. Had a chance on I think 14 to get it to 2 back with 4 to play and missed the 4 footer. Played him even 4-14 after the start and then had to go for it on 15 and lost. Awesome story. A few of his closer friends flew up and surprised him with a gallery starting yesterday. Alas, the dream is over.
So my incredibly drunk friend dropped my rangefinder in a pond/puddle last Saturday and so I'm now on the hunt for a new one w/ "shop credit." Precision Pro still probably the best value? Their fancy app enabled one looks interesting for not too much more money than the other slop enabled ones. Anyone have any experience with it?
If I were to purchase a new range finder id probably look at voice caddie, but I went with one of their watches so.
I tried the watch thing (a Garmin S40) and either just forgot it on the charger or just got sick of entering every shot. Decided to just pull the trigger on the N1, will see how it goes.
Our member member is tomorrow and my buddy just had the most incredible melt down ever. He had today off so went to the range and just texted me he quit because how bad it was. He kinda developed the yips with his irons. I am laughing uncontrollably texting him. Dude is quitting golf and I am trying to talk him off the ledge.
Tell him then there’s no expectations on tomorrow and hopefully he can play relaxed and get past it. The yips suuuuuuuck
Fly Jigga out for an emergency practice round with your buddy. That’ll get his confidence back in a hurry. I’ll even chip in on the flight.
I was just messing with him. Telling him who cares and he can finally hit shots like me because he is way better. It’s going to have different formats where 9 holes will be alternate shot. So i told him his mess ups won’t effect me I am used to hitting shit. He will be fine. But the yips just got him messed up. He can’t hit an iron with out hitting off end of the club. He can basically only use a 5 iron punch. He can’t keep his back leg set. It’s always moving as he goes to swing all the sudden
Update - he officially quit. After range he went and played 6 holes and lost according to him 14 balls. He is a 10 handicap.
He'll wake up tomorrow and probably play some of the best golf of his life. This game is dumb like that.
He is going to the bar now. But he actually quit. Emailed the Clubhouse. It fucks me. I am working on getting my boss’s son to play with me. So should be ok if be can. Most others are already playing.
My father in law plays around an 8 and had the same thing happen. Had the pro out on the range at like 8 the night before their m/m and then won the whole thing.
His problem is that he went out today for practice. Started bad and then pressed and made it progressively worse. If he didn’t go today he would of been fine just playing low key with me tomorrow and drinking beers until Buckeye game at 3:30. instead he is in full melt down.
I completely agree and I am pissed. Dude has been my buddy forever and I have never seen this from him. So I truly don’t know. But I told him he is being a dick.
This dude sucks. Maybe ask him what else is going on in life. Be Ted Lasso. Or be Roy and tell him to fuck off.
No kidding. Those kind of swings in performance can take place multiple times over a single round at that level. Feel like Tiger for 3 holes. Feel like you’ve never touched a club before the next 3. Rinse, repeat. Miss a five footer on 18 and shoot 80. My game in a nutshell most weekends
I mean he is my best friend. Like I said never ever seen anything like this out of him before. But it does piss me off big time. Like when he 1st started to melt down I thought he was kidding. I m not going to ruin a lifetime friendship over it but he knows I am not happy.
I've been at the point where I thought I would never find the center of the face again and it really sucks. I had/have some early extension that wants to buck its head at the worst times and cause the hosel to find the ball. Luckily I know how to correct it myself now but it still sucks to have those scars in your head.
Yeah this does smell of something else (outside golf) going on like someone above referenced. Especially if you're best friends with him and you are surprised at how out of character this is. Hell I don't care if I'm about to shoot 125...golfing with my best friend(s) is still better than simply not golfing at all. ESPECIALLY if it's a tournament or particular round you both have been looking forward to.
That what I was telling him. I don’t give a shit what you shoot. We are supposed to go to sports bar after for my sisters 30th and Buckeye game where our wives will be. I think his major issue is that it’s his 1st year at the club and he is afraid to embarrass himself around the other members. Where as I don’t give a fuck because I m used to sucking. Side note my boss son will play and he is good and fun.
Joined a club last week. Shot 73 (+2) on Monday that should have been a 68 or 69. Went out this morning and Shot a 62 (-9) after making double on #2.
Ha it was the white tees. 6300 yards. I'd normally play the blues but they're having a tournament this weekend and playing the whites.
