Guys like Bray Wyatt and Kevin Owens aren't loaded to the gills with roids so Vince never really cared much about a Bray Wyatt.
People said the same thing about the NWA. WWE is Blockbuster in a Netflix world. AEW is much better at providing content on non traditional mediums.
KO was a former world champion, featured on TV each week and floats from mid card to main event scene. Bray was over pushed and made champion when everyone bitched he wasn't a world title act. Let's stop pretending as if they were treated like Drew Gulak
I'm not sure how you meant it but I don't think anyone bitched about Bray not being a world title act. It's always been more "he doesn't need the title to tell a good story and have significant matches." I also am not sure I agree about WWE not using non-traditional mediums. They have crazy large social media followings. There are plenty of web exclusive interviews. UUDD though not a WWE creation certainly features a lot of their talent in a different context completely. Southpaw Wrestling was some of the greatest wrestling content ever produced and certainly non-traditional. I guess you could say things like BTE and Dark/Elevation are better used to tell stories and help get members of the AEW over, but I don't ever watch any of that so I'm not sure how much it translates to them using their non-traditional mediums well.
WWE and AEW really have two different fanbases they are trying to attract and that’s a good thing. WWE has always been about big, sweaty men bumping meat and that’s good. They have fans who love that. AEW’s niche is more of the smark who wants more storyline build and more technical and high flying wrestling. I would assume that there aren’t many places these people overlap since it’s two different styles, but we’re all here trying. Bray and Owens are more character based guys who even though they had some success at WWE seem better fit for the smarks on AEW. I’m glad there are options, I just wish WWE did more organic stuff like Big E, Bryan and Kofi and not what the cookie cutter stuff they do.
And a hilarious huge 16-man tag between HFO and Dark Order, led by Orange Cassidy and featuring -1 making his return. The crowd is going to go bananas.
Bitch was the wrong term. Like you said nobody thought his character needed the title. But Vince though highly enough of him to do it. He also built multiple RAWs around his character. I think the claim that Vince didn't care about Bray or KO is just way off. And I don't know the levels or following numbers for WWE or AEW on non traditional media to properly gauge who's better than who but WWE puts a ton of great content on .com, twitter, facebook. Like you mentioned the Southpaw show, wwe movies, they had the facebook live mix tag stuff that was hit and miss but did give us Braun and Bliss. But anyone making a claim one is far superior to the other I would like to know what they base it on. Totally agree and since WWE main roster will never be organic its great AEW is available. One thing that will also help AEW with any cross over left is NXT has gone back to the Network full on development version it was early on. I’m going to give them a few more weeks to see how the continue on but it’s defiantly going to a show I binge watch when bored vs a weekly tune in. It’s a shame because it was fantastic and the exact alternative people were asking for prior to AEW.
WWE literally spearheaded its own streaming network with dump trucks full of exclusive, new, and archived content and we want to say WWE media is behind the times here? They backed podcasts. They invented multiple properties for wrestlers to be themselves if they wanted (ride alongs, dinner for 3, the edge/christian thing) Breaking out the antiqued PPV model was great too. And yeah I totally forgot about the mixed tag team thing. They ran a whole program on Facebook matches. I get why smarks prefer AEW and Jericho has been loud about the freedom its given him creatively. It also drew CM Punk back in our lives. That's great. But man WWE has thrown a lot into the modern media landscape. You can separate the media side from the TV product as far as that. For example, Major League Baseball is far and away the best in sports when it comes to innovative media. They started the whole gamecast thing. Pretty sure MLB.tv was the first in that space too. It's not close. That doesn't mean baseball itself is getting any more interesting/younger audiences.
I’m not watching the entire NXT show but I have to say that I have grown to like the new color/light scheme. Also what has happened to Franky Monet (Taya Valkyrie) in the last few years before she entered NXT? She looks like a completely different person since she was on Lucha Underground. Not body shaming because she still is a very attractive woman (and good wrestler) but there’s no way I would be able to tell that she was the same person if I didn’t hear about her coming to NXT. She’s changed more than any wrestler I can ever remember in a relatively short amount of time.
Yeah I don't mind the color scheme and general look of the new presentation. But they are putting a ton of uber green talent on TV who aren't ready. They also have packed these three episodes with so much shit its just overwhelming. I never watched Lucha Underground because it wasn't on my cable system at the time. So I know nothing of her outside of reports and feedback on forums and most people said she was great in the the ring. I don't know what her look was previous but as far as the other stuff she's not very good in ring. Pretty slow moving and kinda sloppy. Her promo game is good so maybe she's got some ring rust to workout. But I'm definitely not impressed with her to this point and her 6 minute match was probably a loud message that those in NXT aren't going either.
Lucha was awesome for the first two years. Great week to week story telling and top notch in-ring action. Ricochet was the man but there was a ton of talent that has went on to NXT/WWE/AWE. Franky was about ~30 lbs lighter then and could keep up with the men in the ring as a threat (Lucha showed no differentiation between men and women in the ring together). Wish they would release the first two seasons on DVD. It was on Netflix for a while.
Best idea LU had was the Gift of the Gods title. Took the Money in the Bank match and spread it out over a long period of time, made it more dramatic almost like the Avengers trying to stop Thanos from getting all the stones. Really clever idea that I wish would be implemented in other places.
Getting a real actor (Luis Fernandez-Gil) to play the puppet master Dario Cueto was a great touch. He played a terrific bad guy. Trios title was groundbreaking in America. Bringing in the exotico Pimpinela was something totally unexpected. My girlfriend got into it at that point and wanted to fly into LA to go to the tapings. Production was great for what they were spending and a house band was a nice touch. AEW could incorporate some of these into their product to continue to differentiate from WWE. Really though just want them to get Ricochet more than anything. Along with Tommy End, the WWE has done the most harm to totally original and charismatic performers that could be near the top of the card.
Are the guys in nxt all tiny? Because I defended Cole ITT last week and he's still my favorite wrestler, but seeing him 1 on 1 with jungle boy makes him look even smaller
Love this match but don't like Cole's finisher being kicked out of in his 2nd? match in the company on free TV.
Having one top star to carry the company =! Kevin Owens is Drew Gulak. Congrats on getting that as your take.
I miss the wwe network. I loved watching old PPV and the documentaries. Peacock just is terrible but hey Vince got that money. History always kept me close to wwe and now that I don’t have that easy way to rewatch those memories my connection to wwe fades.
The network was so fantastic. It was easy to use and rarely had any issues. Peacock is a pile of shit.
I realized they were all small, but I always viewed jungle boy as extremely small but maybe it's just because he's always with luchasaurus. Surprised me to see Cole smaller than him. Although in post match segment it appeared bucks were smaller than jungle boy too. Think I under estimated jungle Boys size a little too
Welp Arn just called Cody a loser because he wouldn't shoot someone in the head like he would if they tried to steal his car....I think Arn needs more mic time
I absolutely love Punks do not give a fuck level of commentary. Other announcers skirting around crowd turning on Cody : Punk "let's be frank, they don't like him" Elite coming down to ring : "that music is terrible and most the group is a bunch of goofs" Tag match clearly not following any sort of rules : "ref Aubrey should just come join us on commentary at this point"
At least these 4 ladies easy to look at, because I feel like every week we get this match or some variation of it
I usually just sit here in the living room after Dynamite and wait for the come down. That show always fucking delivers. Jam packed from beginning to end, leaves you wanting more, just everything that’s been missing in wrestling for 20 years.
Crowd was a bit rowdy tonight but the promo guys managed to pull them back in everything they tried to hijack things.
Every time -1 appeared was wonderful. I just kept reminding myself this is a child who lose his father and now had 10k people chanting his name. What a moment for him. Glad he got his grades up so his mom would let him come.
Jungle Boy is like 6 feet tall, he just hasn't filled out yet. Think they announced him at 190, which I believe is bigger than he was when AEW started. Announced Cole at 200 I think.
On Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks’ role in AEW management, sources told Cassidy Haynes of bodyslam.net “basically they are EVPs in name only in 2021. They no longer have final say in creative or talent hiring. Any of them. TK [Tony Khan] pulled back on the reigns [sic] and took that power away from all.” This could be why FTR is finally on tv regularly after months of nothing.
