Tell him to just get really drunk, so all those negative thoughts get out of his head. That's what I used to do.
Watching the Bryson long drive competition. It's just ridiculous. Bryson's swing is the by far the most controlled out of any of the competitors. I wish the production of it wasn't so shitty because I'd love to see how big some of these dudes slices and hooks are.
My playing partner hit his first hole in one today. Really cool to witness. I think I’m supposed to tag Jigga here
"He even showed the kind of focus that pays off on Tour. In his final set in the round of 16, DeChambeau needed to win the set to advance and was swinging on the line next to Ryan Gregnol. Midway through the set of six balls, Gregnol suffered a dramatic groin injury, fell to the ground and stayed there until being helped off the tee. DeChambeau kept looking over with concern, then refocused to win the set and advance. Relative to Tour golf, it was a surreal scene." https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2021/10/01/bryson-dechambeau-falls-short-long-drive-world-champion/ Dramatic groin injury? Huh?
The guy pulled his groin on the last swing of his previous round, then tried to immediately go back out and compete the next round. He swung with all of his might and probably tore the shit off the bone, like an idiot.
To go further I played like absolute shit for most of my vacation, but getting out enjoying beautiful courses and hanging out with cool people while golfing, blows everything else out of the water.
Do we have any Dallas Golf guys? I’m at work right now and saw an add on southwest with advertising their super cheep rates to certain destinations. Omaha to Dallas is 94 a leg, and thought you know I could fly down. Play a round of golf or two and head home. Is golfing in Dallas November 2-4 any good or even possible? where would be the best place to stay in relation to being able to play say 36 holes in one day. I’d more want to Uber than rent a car.
Yes, that time is typically fantastic to golf in Dallas. Most of the best courses are member only. On the high side- Cowboys Golf Club and TPC Las Colinas (used to host the Byron Nelson) are both close to DFW airport and about 20 minutes from each other. You’re probably looking at 2x your flight for green fees on each course. In South Dallas— Stevens Park and Tennison Park are nice courses and about 20 minutes apart. Courses are good, but not nearly maintained as well as the above. Green fees are around $30 a piece.
I was watching it live, I'm pretty sure. I was with my girlfriend and she said, "Does that happen alot"? It was one of those you kind of had to be there moments. But the way she said it made me lough out loud.
If “by any good or even possible” you’re asking about temps, early November is some of the best weather of the year here. The issue with Dallas golf is there’s no middle ground. Lot of awesome private courses and a few daily fees. Muni’s are all solid/fine but aren’t gonna blow your doors off. I wouldn’t play TPC Las Colimas for the money they charge. Same with Cowboys. Flying Southwest puts you a bit away from those courses anyways. If you play Tennison make sure to get on the Glen. Golf club of Dallas is actually a super solid track (and public) but both of those are in meh areas of town.
How much is TPC at Las Colinas? Has it gone downhill? I’ve always wanted to get out there eventually just because I used to go to the Nelson there as a kid
Not sure you may even have to stay on property as a non member. Also the other 18 there is a much better course imo but doesn’t have the cache of the Nelson. They did use to play one of the first two rounds on it back in the day. TPC craig ranch is under new ownership I wonder if that’s a daily fee possibility. So many awesome private courses in the metroplex and just very few great “public” tracks.
Have a TM gift card. Need a hybrid to put between my 5i and 5W. TM had more options than I thought they would. Suggestions? TIA.
So my dad actually said he might come on the trip. Which opens things up a little. Meaning I’ll get a rental car and we’ll probably stay downtown or something. It’ll be rude of me to play 36 in one day. So is Tennison the course I should play? Want something with a range and can purchase a souvenir divot tool. But want to spend less than 120 for a round.
At $120 and with a rental you can do better than Tenison. Has anyone been to Texas Star recently? Might be a good option.
Question for you gents. Just caught the golf bug and just bought some clubs off craigslist. I’m 6’8 and I’m guessing these are just normal size? Was playing the other day and a guy mentioned I should get my clubs extended. Anyone have a good idea of what something like that would cost? TIA
A couple dollars per club but you will also have to pay to regrip the whole set. Depending on what grips you get probably 150.
I'm going to guess your 5 iron is about a 25 degree. Your 5 wood is likely 18-19. The Sim2 Max 4 hybrid 22 degree should fit in the gap pretty well.
Playing a tournament at Golf Club of Dallas in a few weeks. Glad to hear the positive review from you!
so true, San Antonio has/had unreal muni courses I played a bunch of state am, mid am and USGA mid am qualifiers there. For a Dallas muni it’s strong. For a normal course it’s aight. It has a more classical feel to it. The best hole in the entire city is the first at Cedar Crest but oh boy does that track go downhill from there. Can’t believe it hosted a major. Also in a rough part of town.
houston is better too but distant third to those two Had to look it up because hadn’t heard of it. Made more sense that it was the renamed Oak Cliff Club. Family were members there growing up and oh boy about Cedar Crest. Do not play a late tee time
Right on. This will be my second round in Dallas. First was Brook Hollow a few years back. That was a pretty cool place!
Two outrights in a row with Burns and Homa I must have had 8 2nd place finishes in a row this summer. iT aLl EvEnS oUt
Putting together a December trip to Pinehurst. Anyone have preferences on courses other than #2? We will be playing 4 rounds there, and one on the way up from Florida.
Broke my driver shaft for a second time in a year. Different drivers. Last time I went to pga and got fit for a new shaft. Took a while to get it ordered and installed. Have a trip next weekend. Probably just gong to order a shaft of eBay with a cobra adapter already on it. I actually looked in to steel shafts because I'm such a shitty player. Might be more durable.
