CF3234 what role do you expect Lundell to have this year? trying to decide if it's worth calling him up in fantasy or keeping him stashed.
It was a kick, if not a kick he redirected it. Not sure if redirecting is a good goal or not. if you can’t intentionally score with your skate that was definitely not a goal
I believe the term is "distinct kicking motion". that looked like a kick to me. only difference is he used the outside of his skate when normally those calls are using the inside.
There's always seemed to be more leniency when a player is crashing the net because stopping is a natural move and can be explained as a redirection. If he was stationary parked by the crease it would be a distinct kicking motion
Redirecting is fine. I think North Americans that don't watch soccer don't understand you can kick something with the outside of the foot. Seems pretty clear to me he kicked this in
Technically not a kick w how the rule is written, but also very much a kick in the spirit of the rule
The commentators kept talking about how it's like a soccer kick and "you don't kick with the outside of your foot in soccer." So it might've been a goal because nobody in hockey knows how soccer works
do you have to determine before he plays or can you wait? Right now he's the 3rd line center who will kill penalties. I'd say his realistic ceiling is 30-35 points and a decent +/-. He's not on either PP. There are some in the org that think he could be the 2nd line center by the end of the season, but imo, it's extremely unlikely. If you have to make a decision before the season, I'd stash him for another year. If you can call him up at any time, I'd still stash him for a bit and wait to see what kind of production he puts up.
I can wait. I'm likely going to stash him unless I get hit hard by injuries. I'm deep at center and we don't have flex spots so it's tough to fit guys into the lineup.
I gave an opinion yesterday, but I'll put more detail in now. It's clear as day he kicked at the puck to score that goal. Regardless, I think that is the type of play that should result in a good goal anyway. It's once again another example of the rule being written so terribly, that you end up in situations like this where following the rulebook to the letter gives the wrong result.
yea, I'd be shocked if he has a big time fantasy impact this season. He's got a lot of talent and will be a great fit in terms of team success, but I just don't see him having huge counting stats.
yea I already have 3 rookies coming up in my lineup in Raymond, Podkolzin and Lundkvist so I'm probably better off leaving him out.
I'd probably hold off on Lundkvist as well. He's on the 3rd pair and 2nd PP. Wait to see if he can put up points before pulling that chord.
he's already up. I only carry one extra dman and they options were very limited. anyone getting PP time (even 2nd unit) is worth a roll of the dice.
While I think you should be able to put it in the net any way but throwing it in thats an obvious kick and should not be a goal.
the only reason for the kick rule (and it's a good reason) is safety. You don't want players blatantly kicking at the puck on the ice because that's how you get severed tendons and blood gushing everywhere. I know they have kevlar socks and shit now but still, I've had more than a few friends leave blood dripping all over the ice because they got kicked by someone with recently sharpened skates.
