I live on a culdesac that has six homes. 4 have sold in the last 18 months. One was to me and the other three to families from the bay area. I bid on three homes before this one and lost out to above market offers from Bay Area buyers each time. It’s a very real thing and I am cool with it, my neighbors are all awesome and very liberal. To stay on topic I’ll say I’ve been to Nashville twice and the little neighborhoods right outside town were awesome but downtown is a white trash jamboree so no thanks to that place.
The Venn Diagram of Nashville becoming shitty and it becoming the bachelorette city of choice is a circle. Add in tech chuds and you have one hell of a stew. Henry Blake my thoughts on the why chock full of research
Wife and I make a point of it to visit SLO twice a year, and would move there in an instant if we could afford it. (Would make about 55-60% there of what we make now in our field).
This is kind of the impression I have as well. Anecdotally, I've sold or leased commercial property to 3 families who have semi-recently relocated here from CA (2 from San Luis Obispo, and 1 from Orange County). Two of them have or had kids attending a small, presbyterian-affiliated liberal arts school here, and they loved the area so they packed up moved their families. The 3rd was a retired couple moving to be near their kids/grandkids. I am pretty sure 2 of 3 are not chuddy, the other is maybe adjacent. Both seem to do quite well financially.
I'm curious, what do the median earners in the city do with their children in schools? Do they go to public schools in the Bay area or is it a private school kind of deal?
Every space of land instantly became apartments, going on Broadway just became unbearable and the amount of Bachelorette Parties. Other parts became awesome and still lots of cool places to visit now. But things changed.
Gambling Stick is definitely the best in town. From what I understand, they’re just moving. Staying in east Nashville I believe.
In SF it is almost always private which is very pricey as you can imagine. Makes a hard situation even harder, almost forces you to move if you’re a middle earner imo, but you probably still won’t ever be able to buy (unless possibly if you are in tech). There are some pretty good public schools on the Peninsula and Marin.
Not to derail the thread, but have you (or anyone) had Shotgun Willies BBQ? Supposedly it is pretty good. May try it next time we're up there visiting friends.
The FB post said the guy is from Louisville and wants to move back and open a brick-and-mortar location.
I thought it was just an offshoot of Porter Road Butcher. That’s a big loss if they’re leaving for good.
Ha! You thought I was pro-life but I’m actually pro-abortion. And let me tell you the type of people we need to be 86ing
We appreciate the support the Nashville community has given us from our humble beginnings through best of awards and stolen smokers. Over the last 7 years, The Gambling Stick has called Nashville home, but we are taking the show on the road north to Louisville, to follow a dream to turn TGS into a brick and mortar in my hometown. This couldn’t have been possible without the support from Larry Cardinal, Marshall Hamilton, @lucas_rogers, @chris_prb & @jamesthebutcher, everyone at @prbutcher, Michael & Jesse @thegrooverecords, @gameterminalnash, and our many regulars. The good news is you have 6 weeks to get your fix! We will be open in Nashville until November 13th and would love to see your faces. Come enjoy your favorites while the weather is beautiful!
It's only a mile up the road from me and we've talked about trying it for a year, but always went with the Gambling Stick. They should see an increase with the Gambling Stick leaving east. Although, Edley's is moving to a bigger location in 5 points.
Well shit, now I need to show hidden to see what this shit show is. Never knew Nashville Knight shared my dream of a 24-hour Planned Parenthood on every corner like Walgreens or Starbucks Gonna have to take him off ignore Spoiler I'm not taking him off ignore
Asking because I honestly don’t know. Is Nashville BBQ just a hotter version of regular BBQ? I had it once and it wasn’t that special but maybe I never had true Nashville bbq.
Nah just the chicken is hot. Nashville BBQ overall is meh. It’s not gross, but nothing special especially considering being close to BBQ hotbeds Memphis, North AL, and the Carolinas
I don't think it's healthy to celebrate people in their teens or early 20's having kids when they can't afford them. Perhaps my idea of free childcare for up to 2 kids from birth to high school would help.
Thankfully you don't get to decide who can and can't have children. Also being poor shouldn't exclude you from having children. It's a failure of society they're poor to begin with. Fuck you
I never said they couldn’t have kids, but it’s just another example of living beyond your means. People can be poor for many reasons. Blaming society is a cop-out and further drives the victim mentality we see today. Why do we ignore large families and their carbon footprint when discussing climate change?
Guy said he’s excited about parler coming to nashville. Also said he’s “pro-abortion.” Sounds like we have Shapiro posting on the board. That’s some weird shit he would say. Also this same guy said he listens to logistics podcasts. As someone that works in logistics, that’s the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever heard.
We'll one reason is that the wealth of a family is a much bigger factor... The wealthier the family, the larger the carbon footprint - - often many times larger.
When did I say was excited for Parler? Parler has jobs that they are bringing to middle TN, and that is what excites me. I am also excited about Oracle, Amazon, and all the other jobs moving here. I don't have a parler account and do not agree with everything Shaprio says. Are people who are pro-choice, not pro-abortion?
Interesting chart, but I wonder if the taxes paid offset their carbon contributions. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jul/12/want-to-fight-climate-change-have-fewer-children
What are your thoughts on abortions solely based on a prenatal diagnosis of down syndrome? I am on the fence but it is something I would consider if and when I have kids.
