How many python/constrictors are in Australia? This guy I follow on IG had a video of one that was over 10 feet long I’d think. He didn’t seem too concerned being too close to it so I don’t think it was venomous

    A lot.

Off the top of my gear you’ve got scrub pythons, olive pythons, carpet/diamond pythons (multiple species), green tree pythons, water pythons, pygmy pythons (multiple species), black headed pythons, and womas.

Oh ok. So Australia continues to be the worlds deadliest place.

The video he shared had the snake climbing on his roof while it’s body was still on the ground. Pretty wild.

Ehn, not so much. Yes, there are a lot of varieties of pythons here but you won't see too many in suburban areas unless you're up north and closer to the bush. And even then, they'll leave people alone for the most part.

From what I see on this thread, it seems snakes are just as widespread in the US as here. We just get the publicity because there's so many different venomous ones in Australia compared with the US, but again, it depends where you go. I've seen just the one snake in my state in 50 years.

Just came across this absolute peach of a neonate copperhead. I was going to take it home and keep it overwinter but it was gone when I got back with my bucket :feelsbadman:

Apparently my pic didn't take but luckily just missed running over a black rat snake with the 4 wheelerout in the field earlier after looking for deer markings.

Is the tail that sort of neon, or is that just the lighting? If so, that is awesome.

It’s neon. It serves as a caudal lure which is used to simulate a worm or caterpillar. The young snake will slowly wave the lure to help attract small frogs and lizards into striking range. It’s typically gone by the 2nd year.

We're you worried about it being to young to survive the winter? Or is it just a thing for that species that they aren't very winter hardy?

Oh no, it’ll be fine in the winter. Northern copperheads range well into PA, NJ, NY and even CT. So, it should be fine if it gets enough to eat and avoids predators and unfriendly humans. It was just a really beautiful snake and I have a little 10 gallon tank in my basement that would’ve been perfect for it.

Seen some in Northern VA way back. Changed water meters as a summer job during college, tons of snakes would hang out in the wells. Scariest was a black widow like 4 inches from my hand before I noticed it.

I of course was a giant pussy and just wrote snake or spider on my work orders instead of working around them.

Went to the Naples zoo today. Saw my first reticulated python in person. 20ft long. Picture doesn’t do it justice how awesome this snake was.

Black Widows LOVE water meters. Biggest ones I've ever seen by far. Saw a real nice wolf spider in one once. Know someone who found a skunk in a larger box too. Surprised I never saw a snake in one for all the toads I found.

This dude was chilling on the little half wall near my front door the other day. I was surprised that he didn’t immediately run off like they usually do when you’re close by. He just sat there very still waiting for me to leave.
