Snook but yeah those are definitely the top I’d put on non-tropical inshore fish. mangrove (or gray) snapper would also be up there for gulf inshore species.
Redfish and trout aren't even top 10 Pompano is amazing and one of the best fish you can have Triple tail, pompano and hogfish are top 3 you can catch and eat around here
They aren't trash, they just aren't special. I rarely keep any redfish, but when I do I like to stuff with crab and bake. They're also good friend fresh Trout are probably a better table fare, but just aren't worth the effort imo I haven't kept a snook over 10 years, and probably won't ever again. Idk if I'll keep a redfish again locally with all the issues we've had Would make me sad when in Louisiana and guys at the ramp had coolers of dink trout and redfish just beacuse they could. What a waste of a resource
Louisisana has a fuck ton of trout and redfish. Gaurantee those coon asses had fish fries for the entire family and ate every fish.
12 in for trout . Has to be 15 over here. Can keep 5 reds. Can only keep 3 over here. I think they can keep 16 in reds. Have to be 18 over here.
Yeah 12 inches. We'd see boats coming back to the ramp with 4 or 5 dudes and a huge cooler of 12-14 inch trout. Extremely silly and a waste It's like the guys here you see at the ramp in the winter mornings with limits of blue bills tht you know damn well aren't doing anything with other than taking pictures for the gram
there are people here that love to eat them as well. At that tarpon rodeo where they had fish on display I saw a croaker that was like 15 inches , disturbing.
They are also opening up a Goliath grouper season but it’s hardly worth it it. 10 dollar to enter raffle, 500 dollar tag if you win, and can keep 1, 20-36 inches
What do yall think? My dad bought me this Penn Fierce 6000 combo years ago when I asked for a trout rod. It is way too big for a trout rod. So I haven't been using it. It is rated for 30/40/50 braided or 15/20/25 mono. So I just tried to set it up for cobia. Not monster cobia but 20-30 pounders maybe something a little bigger. So 40 pound braided line to a swivel to 40 pound fluro, to a buck tail jig. If they are on the surface then I could just throw this jig out to them with some live bait and keep reeling so it doesn't sink. If they are deep then I can let it drop to the bottom. Also my buddy was poopoo'ing on this rod in terms of catching snapper but I bet you could catch smaller red snapper and mangrove snapper all day long on this thing.
They’re trying to get them to become a gamefish across the gulf coast. A limit is where they’re starting with the fight.
Never fished in the snow before. The fingers were too cold to make the phone work to get fish pics that day, but it warmed up to be a perfect couple days after that. Edit: I’ve got a new appreciation for those who gracefully keep the reel out of the water while picking the ice out of the end guides.
If you put the guides that have ice in the water with a little bit of flow for a couple seconds it will melt it/clean them off.
In practice , in states near LA, pretty much all ppl from Louisiana , especially coast trash ppl, are referred to as coonasses, it has nothing to do with race or ethnicity, it's just a fun way of making fun of people from Louisiana.
Though I wasn't familiar with the term, it does appear things are a bit more complicated than that. This was an interesting read. https://ethnology.pitt.edu/ojs/index.php/Ethnology/article/viewPDFInterstitial/6064/6263 https://northdallasgazette.com/2014/07/31/texas-politian-refers-to-black-children-as-coonass/
Automatic seafood is supposed to be a really good restaurant in Bham. This recipe sounds refreshing with the citrus and the sauce sounds interesting. Might be a really good and new way to try cooking speckled trout. Also the idea of leaving the skin on and grilling it skin down sounds cool. https://gardenandgun.com/recipe/ree...M6KJs9FBtdu25uC-Jy8X7dDEhKzQlEOesfWdrl10tZRGg
Everyone here uses the term coonass. There are business and menu items with coonass in the title. Only the internet cares.

I always knew them as horny head chubs. They look real weird sometimes, I assume when spawning. The head turns pink/red with white horns all over. They're the whitefish of this area.
Finalized my itinerary for my Argentina January trip. 4 days on the Rio Pico, 4 days on the Barrancoso River/Lago Strabel. Fucking pumped to throw giant dry flies for trophy browns/rainbows.
