Little man (7 years old) picked out a Marshmellow costume for Halloween this week Wife had no idea who that was. One day she decided to watch his videos, and subsequently decided one of them is about a kid in school being bullied, but when he is Marshmellow he is popular. Now she has decided he is being bullied and I'm an asshole for not taking her seriously.
Just agree that he can wear the costume to school and in public at any time so he won't be bullied ever again.
Wife hasn't really done anything too crazy lately other than ordering 2 tv's for our living room so we could "see which one we like more and just return the other one" - after me already confirming model and size of the one we were getting.
In college one of my friends made a Deadmau5 helmet and went to a costume contest at a bar. The DJ called him up as “dead mao five”.
One of my university roommates also made a Deadmau5 helmet. But he was kind of awkward and just walked around campus wearing it so girls would want to take photos with “him”. This is also a great time to admit I read it as “dead mao five” as well. Same thing with 6lack being “six-lack” instead of black. Maybe if artists spelled their names normally people would pronounce them properly. /rant
I, as well, was a dead mao five guy until I heard it pronounced and verified that was the correct pronunciation
Concur. It’s amazing to me how popular these things are that I never knew existed until reading a random TMB thread. I also find myself wondering how the hell bigred77 son found that dude.
I'm kinda surprised anyone hasn't heard of marshmello But I recognize that having a kid does sometimes expose you to different things that people without kids might not come across. He has some good songs actually
I didn’t know that country guy on that last page either. I’m just going to take a break for about 15-20 before I continue to shitpost.
Marshmellow is one of the biggest EDM artists in the last five years and Luke Bryan has been popular for like ten years.
Deadmau5’s Strobe song is one of my favorites and I'm not even generally a fan of the EDM genre and all its assorted offshoots. Back when I was responsible for the in-game music when I was working athletics events (among a million other in-game duties), I made sure that song got played every game. If I have to sit thru watching a shitty fucking football and basketball team then damnit I'm going to at least listen to one song I like. The radio edit of course, I'm not a psychopath.
I have somebody working for me that is taking PTO after a music festival in a couple weeks. I know maybe half of the featured artists and none of the lesser knowns.
It made me realize how old I’ve become… I didn’t know Tame Impala, J Balvin, Rufus Du Sol, Kehlani, Glass Animals, Zhu or Young Thug. It looks like closer to 1/3rd I know.
Yea that's an expensive ass lineup. Have no idea how someone missed this J Balvin song - it was basically on repeat for a year if not longer: With a close second being Lizzo:
LA radio does only play like 5-7 songs at a time though so that could be playing a factor in my wokeness.
Never heard of Nelly? That's right in the old man wheelhouse. Also Marc Rebillet has his own thread on this very board. I think Lord Huron does too for that matter.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess J Balvin gets a bit more play in LA than in a city that's less than 10% Latino.
Shit. It’s gettin hot in herre. There may be people in the list I do actually know but glancing at it I was overwhelmed by feeling of…
Unless you’re the type of person who turns off the SuperBowl at halftime because you’re that old, you should know who J. Balvin is.
Lizzo definitely got more play in Minneapolis. Aside from having lived here, she references the Vikings. The song from J Balvin is admittedly catchy and sounds familiar. Local radio/clubs doesn’t mean much for me anyway though with covid/kids I’m not out and I either listen to podcasts or Spotify (which often means I like songs with no idea who the band is).
I don't know if this is a joke because I never heard of him. Rabid did you want to start a "Progressive, Becoming Your Parents" thread with me?
Im sure I've heard J Balvin songs at a bar or something but I couldn't tell you any of his songs and I don't remember ever hearing about him specifically.
I'm not old but these days I listen to the same few playlists at the gym, podcasts in the car, and some "chill" spotify playlists at home when I want to relax. Can't keep up with current stuff these days.
Ive definitely heard that song but never knew who it was by. I learned something today, thank you TMB
I have no idea. But, and I’ve mentioned this before on here, my wife is a twin and her older sisters are twins. 2 sets of girl-twins. I’ve always assumed my FIL would just go out to garage and find things to do that were not dishes to keep his sanity. (Whenever we make meals he instantly cleans up so who really knows)
I used to be pretty deep into the music scene, hell, one of my tattoos is from an album cover. Alas, it wasn’t radio popular, but I was also in my younger 20’s and exposed to all that stuff from parties and driving around with friends and what they listened too. I honestly can’t tell you what a local popular station is. The lack of music knowledge I have now is insane. I drive around for 2+ hours a day and listen to podcasts and other shit. For some of us, you wake up and you realize why oldies are so popular and that you are now listening to mostly oldies.
I'm almost positive they will be my number one on my Spotify year in review. I didn't like Dreamland at first, but I tried it again around April this year. It stuck the second go round. And my 6yr old loves the songs I let her listen to, like Heat Waves. Bummed I didn't get to see them at Bonnaroo this year.
I know that feeling. My kids have jacked my Netflix and Spotify algorithms. I was able to fix Netflix by giving them their own profile and deleting everything kids related from my history. Spotify doesn’t have that option so I’m trying to overload it by playing things using Spotify on Sonos speakers with the volume turned down/off for 24 hours a day It is making better lists for me but I haven’t recovered my Discovery list quality yet (still lullabies and kids songs). It’s annoying because the Discovery list was so well dialed in to my taste before lullabies.
Spotify makes me kids playlists but also has other lists for my own listening. Feel like their alg differentiates for me.
Same. I was annoyed by the Discovery List being taken over by kids stuff. That seemed like it was better (pre-kids) than the daily ones I get which are mostly things I already know. I might just be my own listening habits that drove those though.
