i fucking suck at pullups now. it’s all i can do to get a set of ten and then they tail off. /dear diary
Anthony Fuhrmann may be my favorite follow on the gram, he’s funny as shit and goes against the grain on so much fitness community bullshit Pull-ups also suck, they were fun when I was <200. I do weighted singles and still suck
Ray Williams said he’d do sets of 10 on pull ups with a 45 hanging off him when he weighed over 400 so I have no excuse
pulled a muscle around my ribs. mostly its fine until it’s not. i thought i could get some pulling in, turns out all i could do is cuss over my misfortune.
Start of fall always seems to be when my strength peaks, not sure why. Most encouraged I’ve felt in a while, not what I deserve after drinking like an asshole last night but feels good
Sometimes my Monday workouts are surprisingly good, almost motivated by all the beers and food I ate while watching football. Other Mondays I just want my work out to be over today was the latter.
Typically do some hard cardio(150+ avg HR) for 30-45 minutes after weights on Mondays to pay for my sins. About to do that in a bit, yippee!
Any of you follow Ken Cooper(gingercules on IG) He trains with Haack and Andy Huang. Anyways, sounds like both his knees blew out yesterday on his 3rd squat and was rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery. Brutal injury, glad there was no video
On the elliptical now! I won’t watch the video but judging by Andy’s comments it’s pretty bad. Brutal
16 weeks out from Ghost. Pressing strength is growing but pec/shoulder won’t cooperate. Gonna take 2 weeks of all pressing and try to rest it. Squats and deadlifts are rocking and rolling. Lots of pause work and my deadlift wedge is coming along. Sitting at a svelt 262lbs this morning. Finally crossed the 50in suit jacket barrier
Hit 165/225 in training two Saturdays ago, should be able to potentially win the 109+ division if I can replicate that on the platform, competition is a little thin.
My best advice would be: if there’s a day you’re feeling really tired, sore, etc then don’t go 100%. There’s no glory in going 100% every single time you step in the gym. Your body needs fluctuations in intensity. outside of that, make sure you’re getting 7-9 hours of sleep consistently, hydrate, and fuel your body. Plenty of protein and carbs.
Go lighter than you think on Olympic lifts at all times. There is a reason they are their own sport. And for most, the CrossFit on-ramp class isn’t near enough training in them by the coaches that spent a weekend getting certified. Man, I’d love CrossFit so much more if they just got rid of the C&J and Snatch in all their non-games athletes’ programming, so pretty much everyone outside a few hundred people.
I did it for a while before I starting powerlifting seriously. I loved the competition, but it was also the danger. I could never hold back when I should have (Capstone 88 didn't warn me back then).
hensleya and others. Dumb question, but will each attachments from other companies (I.e. Rep) fit my sorinex rack? If so, what are the best attachments to start with?
Rogue will. Rep will on some attachments with a single pin. Rep and other imported racks use the metric system vs the imperial system in the states. So because their holes and spacing are slightly smaller, any attachment that spans multiple holes will not line up for the second pin. Also keep in mind that rack width will be different. Rogue uses a 49” outside width and Sorinex uses 47”, so those width spanning attachments won’t be compatible. basically, any USA-made attachment will work so long as it’s 1” holes and 2” spacing. Imported 1” holes attachments will work for single pin attachments but not likely for multiple pins. I would start with rogue, Sorinex, ghost strong, oak club if you want top notch.
Just now Silver medal in 109+.I hit 71 (155) snatch and 93 (205) c&j. 14 kilo competition PR and a comp PR in both. Both over 90% of my training PRs.
Scale scale scale. Always go about 80% of what you think you can do on Olympic lifts and focus on good form. Don’t do kipping pull-ups unless you can control the entire pullup strict or you will fuck your shoulders up yanking yourself around.
Thanks man. Not bad for only 3 months of hardcore training. Being on the platform for the first time was a different experience too. Almost on the verge of a panic attack until I landed that first lift.
hensleya Expecting any Black Friday deals on Rep benches? Looking at maybe getting the 3000 or 3100. And nice shoutout from Basement Brandon!
TBD on Rep. They’ve alluded during Labor Day they may not do BF, but they haven’t confirmed. when did basement give me a shoutout? Haha
Posted a video about a Williams Strength bench and mentioned you and Coop in regards to looking up reviews on Youtube.
my tiny gym is the best selfish decision i’ve ever made, but filled with envy seeing the space NoNatty has. side note: i saw the hensleya ig story about never using the rack dip attachment and realized i’ve used mine twice in the few months ive had it. smh
