Thoughts on Pipeworks brewing from Chicago and Duclaw out of Baltimore? Hop City in Birmingham had a decent amount of both of them. I bought some but have never had them before.
You used to be able to get DuClaw in Mobile at Cottage Hill Package fwiw. I've never had one of theirs that blew me away but also can't remember one I disliked.
I like Pipeworks, I think their stouts are their best offerings. Their IPA's and pale ales range from just ok to pretty good. Had a key lime sour from them that was solid. Duclaw is just ok. If something sounds good I'd try it but wouldn't go out of my way to buy it up.
pipeworks has really good pricing - their hoppy stuff putting ninjas vs whatever is usually pretty good
i had a coworker who would always order these when we'd go to Keg Room for happy hour. He just called it "Monkey Beer" and so after he had about 4 they always knew that anyone ordering "Monkey Beer" should be cut off. Good times.
Pipeworks makes good stuff but I don't get that deep into their catalog to be able to speak to all of it. Lizard King was definitely in the rotation for my after work train ride beer before covid. (Along with Half Acre and Toppling Goliath)
I forgot about this but when I was a beer rep I used to have an account in the Bronx called Nickys, and it used to be their most popular beer because of the ABV. They had so many fights at that bar it eventually shut down
If you’re ever in Asheville, Dssolvr is a must stop. Imperial fruited sour with passionfruit, raspberry, coconut, and vanilla DDH with Bru-1, Idaho 7, citra, mosaic cryo, and local honey
Huge sour lover. Recently discovered Allagash (wicked weed has been my go to) this is amazing raspberry very tart clean sour
At Bhramari now. Imperial stout with banana, coconut, chocolate, peanut butter, and marshmallow. 12.1%. Gonna be a good day.
On way to see Van Gogh Immersive with the fam. Surprised the wife with the tickets so that means she was willing to drive so roadie x 2. Headed to TP after.
Slowly seeing Trim Tab in AZ. I saw that one yesterday but didn’t grab it. Did try a double IPA from them. Don’t remember the name but it was quality.
How long has the trend existed where breweries emphasize the types of hops in the beer? Feels like this has really gotten prevalent in the last 2-3 years.
Pipeworks - I'm always underwhelmed with their beers. Very meh. Duclaw - I've had a few good beers from them and some just ok beers from them.
