Do you follow much strongwomen? Melissa Peacock has a podcast episode that has everyone up in arms. Of course her coach, Terry, certainly isn’t calming it down

There was an Arnold UK, I have no idea what’s going on with it. Could be something with Columbus and indoor mask mandates and travel restrictions just as much as his comments, no clue but we know the strength community is dumb af

OHP 225 for 2 singles yesterday. Felt nice.

Stop using PWO before lifting. Felt I was always up against the clock to time it right. Just drink coffee now. If I can't get to a Dunkin I buy those canned coffees they sell at the lifetime cafe.

Also of note. My gym bought training bumpers. Couldn't fucking believe it. They finally spent money on something that was desperately needed.

Getting my 5G upgrade today so I figured I’d blow out a chest day and do arms too since I’m gonna feel like shit regardless.

I used to have to take it. Became a crutch. I'd keep a scoop in a mixer all the time just in case I could get to the gym. It just drove me nuts timing it right and dealing with that spike of energy. But also since it was the only supplement source of creatine I used it's good because now I can't OD on it and die.

Not sure air matters much when they're wearing those suits but suits aren't allowed this weekend. Tom Stoltman's 2nd place deadlift is just dumb. He straps in and doesn't even get in good position or look like he's taking air and smokes 910 or 920

Nice to see Martins back near his best, Mateusz's body just doesn't seem to be able to handle how strong he is(if that makes sense, imagine you know what I mean)

Licis up 2 points on Tom, can he get 2nd on stones? Both have been great, fun to watch.

Shaw is hurt again so nobody clearly better than Martins at stones besides Tom.

Hey guys, I need some help.
My 14 year old nephew is coming to live with us. My wife's sister finally left her loser ass husband, and her and my nephew will be staying with us for the foreseeable future.
The problem is, this kid is a super skinny weakling. He's an AWESOME kid, has the best personality ever, but I'm afraid he is going to be a target of bullies.
I want to make him stronger. Right now he can barely bang out 1 push up. He needs to put on some weight (90 lbs soaking wet) and he needs to become stronger.
Motivating him won't be an issue, but I have no clue where to start. Any tips / pointers on exercise routines? Any diatary tips to help him gain some weight? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Just the opinion from the father of a nerdy 15 year old...

Bullying seems to be different than when I was growing up. Personality, especially confidence and/or a sense of humor, seem to be much more important than strength. And at 14, you probably aren't going to make a massive difference quick enough for his first impression at a new school.

I'd start off with keeping him active. Not sure where y'all live, but physical labor will build his strength and his confidence. Is he into any sports?

And good for you man. That's a quality TMB man, right there.

i'm father to a couple of "nerdy" kids, who don't naturally look to spend time playing sports or exercising. what i have learned is they won't turn me down if we are doing something like hiking or canoeing. so we have spent a lot of time the last few years doing that and taking 20-30 minute walks a few times a week when weather and seasons permit. it's not really going to achieve the goals you mentioned, but it's been great for bonding and we've managed to get a decent amount of exercise. maybe it will give you some opportunity to discuss dealing with bullying/social situations away from the house.

Lil man is 14 turning 15 and maybe 105#. He’s a pretty athletic kid and is one of the more popular kids but I’d say that the things that made people popular are not things like strength as people were saying already. A sense of humor, having confidence etc are all things I see with the friends groups that he’s in. My guy will literally talk to anyone and everyone. He has zero fear of it and I think that’s really one of the reasons he fits in how he does. He has fat friends, skinny friends, athletes, and that is the one defining trait I see more than any other.

I think all the stuff drilled into kids today around bullying has really helped the majority of kids. Unless they’re the ones that are looking for attention (and oh boy have I learned a lot this year) are the ones that have the issue. He goes to a fairly large school (2600 students) and the kids that run into issues seem to be the ones that identify themselves as transgender gay vampires, are into being furries, etc.

It’s almost as if the kids seeking attention and destined to get it if that makes sense. I know it’s probably not very woke but it’s how it is. Just being skinny or nerdy doesn’t mean much any more from what I can tell.

Understand what you're trying to do but make sure you don't inadvertently end up being the one bullying by telling him he needs to get bigger and stronger all the time.

Brennan (my nephew) loves to swim, so we are going to sign him up for the swim team at the YMCA, and he will be taking jiu-jitsu with my son and daughter 3 times a week. He may work out at the Y some with my son so all of that is good.
He really is an awesome kid. Won't have any trouble making friends. My wife's, sister's soon-to-be ex is an ass. The first thing I did when she told me they were coming to live with us is to call him up and tell him if he ever tried to contact Brennan (not his biological son -kid HATES him) that I would break both of his legs. He knows I can and will do it, too.
My wife helped her sign up for classes at WVUTech and she wants to be an RN. The plan is for them to stay here until Brennan graduates, because he needs stability.
Upside #1, what an AWESOME kid.
Upside #2, my sister in law is extremely easy on the eyes and has decided she is Lesbian. The girl she is seeing is also extremely easy on the eyes so I will have a pretty much unlimited fantasy / spank bank material moving forward. Plus the occasional bj from my wife for letting them both stay rent-free.

First off, good on you. I respect this a ton. As for starting them out, food is going to drive this. Not sure of any dietary or religious exemptions but I’m VERY general terms: whole eggs, lean-ish red meat (85/15 or leaner, sirloin, etc), rice of any kind, plenty of fruit and veggies, any real type of calorically dense Whole Foods.

As for training, volume will be key. Trying to max out anything in this situation is pointless. If he can’t do a push-up then bang out sets of like 6-10 push-ups from his knees. Get him to goblet squat or do lunges with some dumbbells. Do some band assisted pull ups. The thing I would suggest is movement variability. Just get him to lift weights in some manner and do multiple types of physical activity like you mentioned with hiking or kayaking.

Just from my own personal story, lifting weights will give him so much mental strength and confidence even just casually lifting. Happy to help answer any questions you have or bounce ideas off of

Agree with Capstone 88. Start with the absolute basics. Buy a few small pieces for your home:

Buy a few kettlebells. I’d start with a 12kg, a 16kg, and a 20kg. Get him to do goblet squats, split squats, carries (suitcase, front rack, bottoms up, etc…), rows, deadlift variations, and swings. Help him master the hip hinge with the kettlebell.

Buy a sandbag or two from somewhere like rep fitness at different fill levels for weight. Have him bear hug them and do carries.

Buy a cheap sled and get him pushing and pulling all over the yard.

Get him doing the McGill Big 3 often. Doesn’t require equipment, but excellent at developing 360 core strength.

Just foundational strength stuff. Lay the groundwork and if he shows interest in lifting beyond this, invest in some other equipment (bar, bench, more plates, and a rack).

You’ll have a Sorinex rack, eleiko bar, and all sorts of stuff before you know it

    shaolin5, good on you.

Also, like others mentioned, copious, copious amount of anabolics, growth hormone, and insulin. Then who cares if anyone at school makes fun of him he can break them in half
