Wife just informed me that I'll have to work from home on the 28th, to be available to sign for a package.
Doing my own “week on the wrist” a la Jortsdinkee. Selling this one in the coming weeks, it was fun for a while but it does not, in fact, spark joy. Spoiler: “Seiko Flightmaster”
True to form, I saw a handful of Cartier on wrist this past week... Loved them all. Stopped into a Cartier AD & while it made the top of my wife's wish list, I hated it on
Wife's watch is available for pickup soon. Still somewhat annoyed she went with almost the identical watch I wanted - I will jump off a cliff before wearing approximately matching watches.
In a similar scenario, I brought one of my buddies to my local AD, to introduce them, get him on the list for a Rolex & start the charade. The fucker requested a z-blue Milgauss, and said “You can just wear one of your 10 other watches to any work events” He’d pay me secondary for mine today, but it’s probably the one watch I wouldn’t part with… so damn comfortable. I was super annoyed
Damn - debating now which of these scenarios would bother more, having a friend that went out and got my favorite or my current predicament.
He’s not wrong, I have plenty of options… It’s one thing if it was a Sub, but the Milgauss is a pretty niche piece. Really irritating. Hell, he even could have gotten the black one
Honestly, he’s not gonna play the game, so he’ll likely never get it. dblplay1212 on the other hand will likely get his beloved “Pepsi” when one becomes available
I could have already bought a Pepsi and a Tudor and had cash leftover with what I've spent with them smh. Happy wife, I suppose.
She’s working me HARD right now, trying to get me to buy a diamond necklace for the wife. But she did use me for her refinance, so I’m treating that like I’m getting a huge discount, or a “free” BB58
Same. Went into a store with thoughts of buying one if I liked it and absolutely didn’t enjoy wearing it.
Several of their pieces have caught my eye. The plan is no more purchases until the next work promotion...but something like a Baltic may sneak it's way in.
Should be an unboxing on Thursday... wife has not shared what piece she purchased, so somewhat of a surprise
Something’s fucky in that pic - they don’t make a 37mm or 40mm YM in white gold and thise are diff sizes. What’s the story? Or is it just angles and he has 2 of them?
So I am absolute novice to watches I own a couple of Bulovas that I haven’t worn in maybe 5-7 years ?? But I feel like I need a nice proper watch, not trying to get a Rolly or anything……but anyone have some recommendations to look at in the 1-2k range to dip my toes in the watch game ? I’m not an everyday watch wearer, it be mostly every once in a while when I go out to a dinner with the wifey or something
New big brands: Longines/Seiko Presage/Tissot/Rado/Oris New small brands: Weiss/Unimatic/MKII/Halios Vintage: Omega Constellation/Seamaster
I’ve seen Halios has a good reputation and I like Universa one but it looks like they are hard to get a hold of
What size are you looking at? Ball Gag Giorgio has a solid list (I have a Longines and an Oris and I love them), but some of those vintage's can run on the small side.
I’ll add that you should go try one on in person if at all possible. Seeing them up close is very different than interwebs pics.
I bought a Casio G-Shock GA2100-1A1 the last time they were up on Hodinkee because my brother loved mine. Turns out he bought one for himself before I could give him this one for his birthday. Anyone itching for a Casioak, just need my $110 out of it. Spoiler
In news that surprises exactly no one, Fudd's first vintage piece is performing incredibly erratically, the "dealer" isn't honoring their 1 year "warranty", and the repair estimate is $650.
Yeah, it's not the end of the world I guess. I love the watch so at least I know it should be working well into the future. All new parts are going to OEM and the watchmaker gets very good reviews so I guess I'll look at the bright side.
The Tag Heuer formula 1 a decent starter watch ? I really like the look of it, I don’t care about the quartz vs automatic thing I’m not a daily watch wearer……….I really want a Halios but those seem hard to come by https://www.watchesofswitzerland.co...rtz-43mm-Mens-Watch-WAZ1010.BA0842/p/17381197
Tag is in general is a terrible watch purchase. Their quartz pieces, priced as they are, are one of the worst values out there. Wait for the Halios
I have a quartz Formula One. It was my first “nice watch,” at least got me interested in quality watches. For what it’s worth now, I can’t imagine why someone would buy it over an automatic Seiko.
going to go against the grain here… if you like it and will wear it, then buy it and enjoy it. Who cares what we think? We’re not wearing it. There’s no sense in buying a “better” watch solely because it is a “better” watch. I used to be a brand/movement snob. These days I base my buying decisions 90%+ based on design and if I would enjoy wearing it and seeing it on my wrist. This is not to disregard value— I am happy to buy 2nd hand if there is a discount to be had. On the Tag- I think it looks good and most probably well made.
