I think a lot of people like Lane because he’s just entertaining. You have the crazy quotes and social media stuff, and the crazy things like what happened in Knoxville. He certainly isn’t dull. He coaches like a lot of us play Madden, which is very different and fun. Might not be as entertaining if he was coaching my team, but it’s fun to watch from afar.
We were 20-28 in the four years before he got to Ole Miss, and forfeited 17 scholarships during that time period. The fact that fourth down decisions made or broke a game at Auburn in year 2 (missing a starting guard and 2 of our top 3 receivers) means he's done a pretty incredible job.
Similar to us with Pittboss, we are ahead of schedule and on our way out of the dumpster fire that was chud morris.
"Ahead of schedule" is fool's gold half the time. New guy gets an immediate boost for being new, starts winning with old guy's players. Settles back into mediocrity. Can't argue with the logic of that ironclad input
I'm just glad Auburn, with Gus related sanctions, a brand new coach whom everyone thought was pure shit....is still better than "ahead of schedule 2nd year coaches" from these schools. Remember this whole thread assumed Auburn would be 6-6 at best
Yes and your depth still showed up over our lack of chuds recruiting. 15/22 we pretty good for starters, after that we're a shit show.
He was in the 50s before he got fired. After year 2 those rankings didn't mean shit b/c 100% of any 5* kid transferred or was booted and probably 50% of 4* kids were too. And lets not ignore his class & roster mismanagement leaving us pure shit on the OL
and the good sign with Harsin is that things are getting back to where they need to be in recruiting...
But you're right tegg, Auburn should never be 6-6. We should be 8-5, loveable, and then every 4-5th year be 11-2 and in contention for a national title. I hope Harsin doesn't break our 4 decade streak of winning a national championship.
As a graduate of an actual good school, Wake Forest, one would think you'd be better than this. smh. That's 90% class size at the moment. We have one of the 3 or 4 smallest classes right now. You really think USCe with 17 commits, only 3 * is better than a 5/8 mix? Good thing signing day isn't today. Avg rating we are 6th or so and should only move up in both that and total points. It's his 1st class. It'll still be a relatively smaller class.
Didnt Morris recruit really well for you guys, comparatively? Youre winning right now w his recruits. At least with the starters. Credit to Pittman for keeping that team together after Morris left, but it does seem like he's winning because of the good players Morris recruited, and Pittman convinced to come back for one more year. There was a lot of really good parts left in the cupboard for him.
I thought he raided the transfer portal and was being praised for getting buy-in from Morris players and the new transfers.
Auburn has outscored its 3 SEC West opponents 27-0 in the 4th quarter this season, but yeah Harsin sucks. Bad coach.
Morris's classes had some good pieces but overall they were overrated without much meat. I too am worred about the next 2-3 years as it seems our backups couldn't make the 2 deep for most P5 programs that we have seen. As our players have gotten more beatup and backups have had to contribute, it seems we have fallen off pretty far from where we were when we beat Texas and A&M. Hoping we can just go 2-2 for our last 4 games. Anything less than that is somewhat of a letdown of a season considering how we were playing in September.
2018- 45th and last in SEC 2019- 23rd and 10th in SEC thanks to Burks and Henry 2020- partially Chad partially not, but we were 29th and 10th in SEC 2021- Pittman’s first class, 25th and 9th in SEC 2022- short on numbers, but sitting at 20th and 7th in SEC Our entire DL is grad transfers (thanks Mizzou) and outside of Burks we have no WR’s which is kind of a problem for that whole play fast hurry up offense. Morris was a decent recruiter, but didn’t do anything better than any coach before or after him… and certainly was never going to develop any of them to be able to win a SEC game.
Sample size of 1 quarter in 3 games and the sample doesn't include your toughest game to date. This is some quality barnering, folks
I mean he’s 3-1 in the SEC and has Auburn competing for the SEC West in his first season in the league. Not really sure what else needs to be said.
I'd go further, they've talked themselves into beating Bama, then getting revenge for 2017 in the SEC Champ game and making the playoff.
Bama’s played 3 road games. One was a loss and another was a 2 point win against a shitty Florida team. What makes you think they’ll play well in Jordan Hare?
If Texas A&M drops another one we are likely playing for the west in Jordan Hare on Nov 27. Based on the recent history of this rivalry and Bama’s glaring weaknesses on defense, I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to say Auburn has a fighting chance.
Alabama should have no confidence playing Auburn is hilarious to me. I’m not saying they win but this is amazing stuff
