Definitely wasn’t expecting that in the first episode of the season. Edit: just realized I quoted the wrong post here. meant to quote this one:
Definitely didn’t get a sense of closure on anything that happened at the end of last season. For as hyped as that was, I thought it was really sloppily done. Roark bit was….sudden. Could they just not get that actor to sign on for this season or something?
Yes, I agree on Roark. For a cool death, it was somewhat anticlimactic especially as it appears they are still searching for who did this.
Absolutely. Look at the van and the people who did all of it. They don’t look like a bunch of hired professionals that someone with a lot of money would hire. They look like white trash that his dad would know.
I know it's part of his character now to be all torn up and wondering who he is but crazy how fast Jamie's dad is now manipulating him. How far that evolves and carries out will be interesting and if there is more back story with John and the dad
Now that you guys pointed it out I’d have to agree with the thought Jamie’s dad is probably behind it. He wants Jamie to take over everything and if John, Kayce, and Beth are all dead Jamie gets it all. I wonder if there is more to the backstory about how Jamie came to the Duttons and when we see John talking about “how could you do this” maybe back in the day he did Jamie’s dad a solid and not is getting stabbed in the back. Overall I thought it was a pretty good episode, could have maybe tied a few more things up before introducing the kid, jimmy hitting the road, and the new lady coming to town in place of Rork.
Just because I’m a nerd: when Travis and John were discussing show horses and said he wanted all 3 and that would cost millions. He also mentioned buying into Metallic Cat. That’s a stallion out of Texas that’s sired over $46M in earnings iirc. His dad was High Brow Cat thats sired over $70M in just cutting. I love that they’re actually using active cutting horses and stallions in that discussion.
Being from here i really enjoy all the Texas nods. From Metallic Cat to him telling Teeter she aint Texan to all the King Ranch stuff. If they had referred to the delicious casserole to go along with the truck mentions my night would have been complete.
No and there will eventually be a situation where he has to make a choice and he will kill his real dad in order to save John’s life. I think in the end, Jamie will ultimately be the one to save the family.
Thought the premiere wasn’t written all that well but enjoyable, still have no idea what was going on with that Monica scene. Was like a flashback/what happened with the cowboys but just confusing
Random observations Kayce's Bigfoot costume was laughable Rip was more concerned about his cabin being burned down than getting to Beth
Wondered about this too. Maybe he didn't know Beth was attacked but figured he would call her after finding John. Thought it was off they didn't show anything with him and his reaction to her attack
Finally finished up IF that was the end of sawyer….what a let down. Could have easily have killed him like that in the finale Unless there is multiple people involved I can’t see Jamie’s dad having the cash to pay off those hit men as we saw the guy in the casino had a wad of cash. So whoever paid them off had the funds, unless he stole from Jamie or is secretly wealthy I can’t see him the one that financed it I’m not sure if I can get behind the mom from silver linings playbook being this ruthless big money player if she is taking over that role from sawyer and the knockoff Omarosa Just listening to rip talk about anything is amazing, him talking to the kid when Beth brought him home was amazing
This show would be so much better without Beth. For whatever reason to me she comes across as this pathetic stereotype of what some writer thinks a tough woman would be like. Like some dude with a fetish. Over the top writing, and the actress isn’t good enough to save it. If not for having to cringe at every scene she’s in, I’d love this show.
I’ve now had 2 unrelated people tell me I look like Rip. Please send any comments or questions to my agent moving forward
Finally got a chance to watch the premier and I got some thoughts... Beth: Wanting a cig as she walks out the building burnt to a crisp. Later we see how much scaring that explosion did to her not only mentally but physically. She clearly believes her brother set this all up but I think she's wrong. But I do believe ultimately he will die at her hands. Something I didn't see mentioned but did stick out to me was her former boss thinking he could just buy her out, but she pointed out he didn't own the land alone that she owned 50%. I think her Boss is who sent the men at her family. I also enjoyed the kid storyline and felt Rip really stole the show. Rip: I see some mentioned Rip not caring about Beth but I believe he wasn't aware an attack took place on Beth. At that point he only knows someone went after John and called Kacey for help on a medic chopper. They don't even speak on Kacey being hit. When he get's back to the farm he's not told about Beth either but was told about the Cabin. We then fast forward what seems like 8-9 months in the timeline, at the hospital John wakes up and he asks "what day is it?" and they respond with "It's August" I believe we were at the start of winter at the end of the previous season... So my guess we were in October/November when all this shit happened. John: I believe the flashback is John as a kid... EDIT: Nope it's not.. It was a preview of the spin off 1883 Roarke/Jackie: I wasn't a fan of his role last season. Just chilling in the river fishing after what happened to the Dutton's leads me to believe he and Jackie have nothing to do with the attack. Rip is simply the best, did not except the snake to pop out. Already love Jackie more than Roarke, she's a smart cookie and offered a crazy good deal to Rainwater one you would believe could lead to a partnership that could be bad for the John and maybe Rainwater himself.
You mean the flashback with the Indians and Tim McGraw? No way that’s John Dutton, that’s probably John’s dad.
This might be a hot take but after watching the first 20 minutes of EP 1 this show screamed Sons Of Anarchy. To me that’s not a bad thing. But it was a thought that popped in my head
Referring to shootouts in broad daylight and bodies going missing left and right and they never get caught?
My first thought when they came across the burial site on the construction location was that someone finally found that Indians dad who he was there to bury
Jamie's dad definitely had something to do with this Dutton hit Good episode. Nice slow down from just killing everyone around
