On the way back from 2 nights in Atl. They’re killing it and The Eastern is a pretty nice venue. 1st night they played a slow/funky Arcadia coming out of Slow Ready that was choice. Rosewood Heart > Creatures > Dragonfly 1&2 was a nice stretch too. Love The Old Man's Boat, and think they should follow that with This Old Sea. They killed a Madhuvan encore compete with a light show on the curtain that closed and reopened in the middle of the jam. The evolution of Peter’s keyboard setup is really letting them take jams in different directions. Sometimes I wish he would focus on keys solely then he slings the guitar off his back and kills it too.
Billy Strings is on IG live giving away guitars to every kid at his former elementary school. He’s the fucking man.
Music of course subjective. Live show may turn you though. They have a good energy when on stage, good production value, etc. There is 3 can’t miss bands for me if I can make a showS Billy strings Phish Goose. Haven’t seen Eggy live yet, but been digging into their recent shows and really want to catch them
My biggest issues with Goose are the lack of ambient/introspective type jamming and the use of auto tune vocals. Wish I made it to the Atlanta shows, but planning on seeing them at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville in March.
I’ve seen Goose 3 times in the last 6 months. Their music is just feeling repetitive to me. The Halloween show was hot though.
This is what I was just about to say as well but didn’t want to sound like an asshole. It’s feels like peaky, major chord jams over and over.
They are starting to mix some of the ted tapes into live shows and it’s been getting more ambient. Auto tune thing is only used in line 3 songs. Works well at times, sometimes not so much.
Got you. Halloween show looked like a lot of fun, but from a sound perspective I thought it was the weakest show of the tour. Sure it was a blast though
Also I don’t think you sound like an asshole. I love goose, but that’s me. The whole my band is better than your band thing is dumb. Strangefolk still one of my all time faves, but I don’t expect others to love it like I do.
No I feel you. I’ll probably go because their energy really is contagious and they have so much fun. Just thinking about how horrible I’ll feel at work the following two days.
Pretty cool. moe. Fans have quickly raised 50k for Chuck Garvey to help with his medical cost for his stroke. https://gofund.me/47772c8f
enjoyed the venue, who took care of my pregnant wife and put us in seats in "VIP" area. props to staff. I really enjoyed though the show, even though a couple songs I had hoped for were not played. need to listen to Austin N1, N2 (which I'm sure you've seen is available in full on YT, and relisten to Dallas this week.
Goose was playing while I was at Helen for lunch today in Birmingham . (Nice restaurant in Bham for you non-Alabamians)
Pretty sure I still have mine if you want it. Not sure what they going for, but I’ll unload it for less than resale. I know they hard to find.
The Austin Powers theme opener is good stuff. They jam it out into Drag the line. Weird, fun openers for the night. Ricks solo on drag the line, is phenomenal
Ain’t nothing wrong with that…. Sometimes music can be so beautiful it can do that. Speaking of weeping, Jerry has done that to me. Bird song can really can get to me…. I cry like a bitch any time hear Harry Chapin’s Cats and the Cradle.. as a father and growing up with dad that traveled a lot for work it just hits me…. Then there some Strangefolk songs that lyrically get to me.
