this is gonna be the one that gets Clown Baby not because of the hulking but because of the lawyering
I’m excited for some of these, but I feel like too many will be disappointing if they don’t connect to the larger cannon.
yep. Especially when we are about to have so many characters it’s actually nice to have something that is strictly character building instead of going straight into something epic. plus it was a movie about Tony Leung more than anything. He’s such an amazing actor, and as a lover of Asian cinema, he was phenomenal. Leung brought a lot to this film
Shang Chi is better the second time and it was already "good" after a first viewing. Eternals is still a mess, though.
Yeah Leung was great. Bummer is that he seemed to have a little more depth than some of the “destroy the world” bad guys. Would have been nice to see him pop up in future movies as well.
I really felt like he carried the movie so I am interested to see how the next part plays out. Not that I had any issue with Simu Liu as Shang Chi, I thought he was quite good but the moive really belonged to Leung. I don't know anything about the character of Shang Chi though so excited to see where it goes.
also watched shang chi for the first time last night - fight scenes (bus scene in particular) were really good - the way they used the rings to fight and move was awesome - the movie was pretty boring outside of the fights; didn't think awkwafina added anything (and i like her a lot), the sister-brother relationship and reconciliation was lacking (though i guess set up for the sequel), and the lore and mysticism of the village/gate of hell was weak. the movie couldve been 30 minutes longer and been better if they slowed down with the exposition and weren't so direct. i'll likely rewatch this movie when it airs on TBS or whatever (which is my own way to judge these mcu movies) but i doubt i'll intentionally rewatch it at any point before shang chi 2. 6/10.
I guess for me that was a good thing. Shang Chi started out solid but just ended up being pretty formulaic by the end. Maybe I'm suffering a bit from Marvel fatigue. I'm still invested in the MCU but I'm ready for something a bit different.
Also watched Shang-Chi for the second time yesterday and liked it more than the first. I still think Awkwafina's character is pointless, and the last act wasn't really my thing. But I liked the story a lot and the action sequences were some of the better ones Marvel has done in a standalone movie. The bus scene especially was amazing.
Sherman Oaks!! I was going to say I'll go and report back but that's a bitch of a trip - also a weird selection unless there is some nuance I'm missing.
He’s only been back alive in the MCU for a few months at most. He got snapped, and Hulk’s arm is still in a sling.
More along the lines of running the sanctum at the end of Shang chi but also running underground fighting ring with Abomination. Especially after his speech about no possessions or money, only metaphysical ham on ryes or however the line went.
just finished Shang-Chi, probably the best character introduction film outside of Iron Man. East Asian mythology is always fun and almost limitless in possibility so it's fun to see that explored in some ways. last act was sadly rushed but it's still a really solid film and as said above, definitely feels like an MCU film. Leung was terrific, they did a great job writing a very human antagonist and he did a great job portraying one, he was the bad guy but never a cartoonishly evil one. definitely seems like they can get a couple more films out of this character and cast.
Finally saw Eternals; they did a whole lot very well but it just dragged and I thought Sprite's heel turn and then change was a bit rushed and forced.
Kumail just completely disappearing for the final battle then reappearing after was weird. What he said when he left made me think he was joining Ikaris not just saying fuck it I’m sitting out but I still like you guys so see you after if it goes well for you.
Finally saw eternals as well, and I enjoyed it. I also get the criticism of it and that it would have definitely been a great series. Especially with the flashbacks and each Eternal could have their own episode. With the success that the previous series have had I also think it’s easy to now have that criticism or want. Ultimately I loved what Zhao did with these characters and story. It was beautifully shot for a film in the MCU when majority of them are nice and shiny commercial shoots. This felt like an Indie
also, I love classic Marvel trailers where 90% of the trailer is in the first 20 minutes of every film
I don’t want to see any more No Way Home or Multiverse of Madness media until I’m sitting in the chair in the theater when it is released
Friendly reminder to watch the Spider-man trailer and nothing else. Don't read tweets about it, comments, replies, or anything that might spoil it for you. Only 1 more month.
Just watched Shang Chi for first time, thought whatever was behind the demon entrance was going to play into the future somehow. With the whispers, thought it was going to be whatever was whispering at end of Wandavision Apparently a one and done lol. Solid flick, not our best but a good opener
It dragged way too much for me. Just when I thought it was engaging me it would lose me. And wtf Angelina Jolie….your lips!
