Man I won’t lie I get super frustrated with cyclists groups sometimes but I couldn’t imagine hitting one of them. I hate this country and the people in it so much.
Was riding down Energy Park Road in St Paul last night about 8:45 pm. Very little traffic at that time. Street has marked bike lanes. Mostly office parks. I was cooking pretty good, probably about 20 mph. Prius came out of a parking lot and didn't see me at all. I slammed on my brakes and shouted. He slammed his brakes. I came to a stop near his fender. I'm still feeling so badly about how much I inconvenienced him. Edit: I had two headlights on at the time. One a combo steady/flasher and another steady. Also reflective materials on my shoe covers, pants, jacket, gloves. And I'm a kinda large human.
Giving equal time to people being assholes, I encountered a tremendous dickhead of a driver on my way home from work. The highway exit I get off has two let turn lanes. If you're heading westbound as I am, there are five lanes of travel. The three left lanes are all for the southbound on ramp for traffic heading west. The two far right lanes are for people who intend to stay westbound on the road. At the exit I was in the left of the two turn lanes and there was some dickhead in a beat up car in the lane to my right. The light turns green and -- following the panted lines -- I steer my car into the appropriate westbound lane (second from right), but the asshole to my right attempts to turn in the same lane I am in instead of heading to the far right lane. Rather than realize he messed up, he proceeds to get furious with me as if I've cut him off, lays on his horn for the next mile and keeps speeding up to tailgate me as if to threaten to bump my car. Thankfully when I got to a roundabout a driver let my car slide in then got between our cars so I the situation did not continue to escalate.
Shortage of anyone with a CDL. Huge backlog in new ones with DMVs shuttered for a year due to the pandemic.
what frustrated me was going overseas and seeing how it *could* be done and then coming back to North Carolina and seeing all the NCDOT road designs that clearly don't give a fuck about anything but cars. Even when they build "bike lanes" they are an afterthought, just these 4-foot wide death traps. and the people who run the state government are all these rural farmers and car dealers, who can't even imagine how a person would ever want to walk anywhere, or ride a bike, or god forbid take some kind of train or bus. Clearly these things are for communists.
so, I was watching this earlier today. Looks like one car was following the other, they were both lost, and the second driver just decided to have a melty in the middle of the road. Maryland drivers smdh
tbf 395 is the worst 12 miles of highway on the planet. Insane number of left exits, left entries, and lane merges.
so in broad terms I agree with one HUGE caveat. If you are not used to it, driving in the true centre of a dutch city, most predominately student towns, is an experience as in the heart of the city traffic rules dont count, bikes always will take their right of way and come from every angle. But from the burbs, highways and small towns and everything, it is true that i love driving in NL.
There is a whole terrible argument on Twitter rn asserting that the truck is at fault because “you never know why someone is in a hurry and he should have just gotten over immediately.”
The truck is absolutely driving recklessly. The other guy is obviously more at fault but in a just world the truck driver is getting his license suspended.
I liked that video because the guys in the video were funny but I echo that the truck is a doucher too albeit without context. Dude was getting outpaced by that Jeep in the cruising lane.
Since this thread features dangerous drivers. https://myfox8.com/news/north-carol...-chase-along-busy-highway-in-guilford-county/
S/o to the homie who rides his bike to work on a main road rain or shine, winter, summer, doesn’t fucking matter. Tbf I bet it’s because he got his license taken away or something but I’ll never get irritated about sharing a road with Bill or John or Greg or whatever
I didn’t drive for 20 years because I got my license suspended and didn’t think it was worth the trouble to get it back. It’s glorious to not have a license and not worry about having to drive.
I'm driving a 2021 chevy Silverado 2500 with no lift or anything and at 6'3" tall I can barely reach the hood to close it
That is dumb but the comments are absurd. I always sit as high as possible driving any vehicle because of sightlines. But the argument can be made both ways. People in cars are just as likely to hit pedestrians because they can't see they behind things with low vantage points.
Would imagine you have to take your shirt off and throw a dip in before you can even crank that truck
Came very close to a high speed accident this weekend and once my heart rate came down, I thought of this thread.
