Avatar could’ve honestly been a silent. It was a massive CGI flex, and that was it; that was the movie.
I like that you knew basically every character arc the second you saw them, left a lot to the imagination. Dances With Wolves, Last Samurai and Avatar are a good trilogy of white man going native
I’ll provide a serious response. I disagree with a lot on this list (and their director power rankings), but it’s a really fucking good list: https://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000_startinglist_table.php
It is visually enough to warrant multiple views - storyline obviously wouldn't. Also I think when it came out I paid like $36 for a ticket for the Cinerama Dome compared to $8 or something for all other movies. So I'm sure the 450% increase may have helped their gate.
Story line was fine. It was a western and the "cowboys" like it history were massive destructive assholes
Yea, I was referencing the multiple-view factor. I wouldn't have needed a rewatch of that storyline if not for the absurd level of visual development.
This film made me buy an expensive Sony 3D TV which I'm fairly certain that feature was never used after like 2 attempts. I hold Avatar to blame solely on this front. Also me doing minimal to sub-minimal research on the TVs at the time.
I torrented the movie when it came out and I must have watched it 20 times in that year. Haven’t since.
I forgot about the massive 3D craze that went on around this movie including the 3D TVs I hated 3D because for whatever reason the glasses always made me want to fall asleep. Also who wants to wear 3D glasses at home. Anyway found out earlier this year my wife he never seen Avatar so we watched it and it was cool. Disney World ride is pretty awesome too.
It was the only 3D movie that the effects worked well on both TVs and the theater. Maybe Tron: Legacy was a distant second.
I got really really hammered at a friend’s house and tried to watch a movie in 3D and let me tell you that’s not a great idea.
One of the worst movies ever. If your only selling point is the visuals the run time should be max 100 minutes
Avatar sucked, but without it we would have never gotten to see TMB user EdNigma sing karaoke while simultaneously watching Avatar Porn
Was the first movie I ever saw in 3D and I remember being pretty blown away at the time. Now I hate 3D and I’m pretty sure everyone else does too.
If you watch it with an Anti-American Imperialism lens, its actually subversive. The scene where they blow up the tree and the similar imagery to 9/11 isn't something I noticed when it came out. The main character being a paraplegic marine vet in a time where there is a cure but he doesn't have the means to get it but there is enough capital for gigantic space exploration is another thing I noticed rewatching it.
Yeah dude. It’s Dances with Wolves but blue aliens. It’s all about the evils of imperialism and greed.
Seeing that shit at IMAX in 3D was absolutely mesmerizing. Could give a fuck it was Pocahontas on shrooms. You create something that visually stunning you can copy whatever fucking story you want as long as the plot isn’t so fucking dumb it takes me out of the experience.
Okay galaxy brain was that name too on the nose for you? I’m so sorry it made your cunt extra dry. Go take it to an A24 film you intellectual queef.
I didn’t expect this visceral of a response to my off hand comment, just thought a little more effort was warranted on that item at the very least
