mainly his smartass attitude about the harkonnens in the training scene with gurney, and how he thinks duncan's scouting mission is some cool adventure when it's actually extremely dangerous
Dad caught it in IMAX yesterday. He grew up a big Dune/FH fan. It was his book of choice next to LOTR to read to my brother and my younger self. Called me after the showing and said it's one of the only movies that brought a tear to his eye (next to Saving Private Ryan) and that he couldn't have asked for a better adaption minus a couple of the book scenes mentioned ITT that were omitted. Very happy with the casting choices. That the shots were so well done, he felt the urge to follow Gurney into battle.
Are you talking in the book he was thinking the scouting mission is a cool adventure? Because isn’t that whole scene in the movie to say he was worried and dreamed he was going to die?
maybe i'm remembering the order of the dreams wrong but i thought the one paul was talking about there was about chani, and the one where he was killed didn't happen until he was on arrakis
Q: Feyd-Rautha, the Harkonnen heir – might he be in Part Two? Villeneuve: Definitely. That's a choice that I personally brought on. There was enough characters that were introduced in this first part, and it will be more elegant to keep Feyd for Part Two. It will be definitely a very, very important character in the second part. From an interview with Empire In the interview Villeneuve also gives other interesting tidbits about Dune (Spoilers for Dune: Part One) Part Two will be such a cinematic treat. Making Part One for me was just to [set] the table...now that everything is set, Part Two will be just an amazing playground. It will be so fun to do. I insisted that we will never go inside the spaceships. Dune is really a project that was, for me, focusing entirely on Arrakis and the Fremen planet, and focusing on the ecosystem of the planet. It's a story that is very grounded. It's not a story about space-travelling. https://www.empireonline.com/movies...s-villeneuve-ending-paul-dreams-and-part-two/
Finished the book yesterday and was curious of the book readers if the others are recommended.. I made it about half way through the movie and have thought is was pretty good fwiw.
General consensus is that Dune Messiah is def worth reading, after that it gets marginal and is only for the real devotee.
Read the synopsis and it seems more political. Which is fine but I was more interested in what happened to his sister, his relations with the new woman and Chani(as well as their sons, if they have more). Guess I'll download and give it a go
If you don’t read God Emperor you might as well not read the first two, IMO God Emperor is a must read, after that I can agree
Watched again last night. Solid. I get much more about how the Jamie vision of being homies is the red flag about how the visions aren’t reliable. I need more of that ambiguity shown in the next movie. Also, major first book spoilers, Spoiler I am going to lose it at the action sequence of Paul getting on a maker. Reuniting with Gurney. Imagine the surreal visions DV is going to show Paul having after drinking the maker water. And the fucking full assault on the Emperor’s ship with the storm and the worms. Baron getting gom jabbared by a kindergartner. Fuck I’m excited.
Jamis was telling him in the visions that he would "teach him the ways of the desert". Which he certainly did. I took the message more as, "be careful how you interpret the visions".
watched 2x in theaters (imax and regular digital screening) and after watching a little promo video about Dolby Cinema, I looked to see if it's still being exhibited in that format specifically locally. alas, it is not. Will try to fire up in 4k HDR at home before it leaves in a few days.
Also saw 2x in theater, once in Imax and once regular, and have watched 1.5x at home. Better finish up that 4th watch.
Stop after Book 3. Stuff really goes off the rails at that point. I was never able to finish them all.
Watching it right now when I saw it was only available for a few more days. I fucked around and missed out on Saints of Newark rewatch
Same. Just finished Spoiler was disappointed on how the book kinda glossed over the battles. Not to mention the time jump. Wasn’t expecting that. Also was surprised at how unimportant Fade Ralfa was. Drax’s character dies offscreen. I listened to the audiobook so have no idea how shit is spelled. The whole Alia/emperor/baron/BG mother scene should be amazing. With that said was really a great book overall. I’ve tried starting it a few times over the years but was to steep to get into.
I got about half way thru GEoD and stopped. Read the wiki for the rest. Shit got weird. Apparently Jewish people show up eventually?
I think something like that happened. There was a reemergence of “Old Religions” or something like that.
wow it was such a great choice to read. At the dinner party now and it is fantastic. I now appreciate the movie so much more and look forward to a rewatch after I complete the book.
The final final scene of the movie is soooo gooood. The last glances between Paul and Jessica and then Paul and Chani with Jessica observing.... Spoiler Jessica's expression shifts to disapproval and disdain so subtly, and really sets up the fraught, testy relationship they'll have. MILs, amirite?
Watched it on HBO Max last night. Fantastic! Even.my wife got sucked in despite her protestations. Gonna try to watch again tonight.
Finished Book 2. Def a slow burn, but the last 50-75 pages are an awesome ride. Spoiler Once Paul gets his eyes burned out from the stoneburner, and it keeps describing his empty sockets was creepy AF Question for those that read book 2: Spoiler After Paul left the traitors' house, did his men attack it, but the traitors had procured atomic weapons (stoneburner), and that's why there was the nuclear explosion? Now need to find book 3 in Mexico, preferably in English.
