xG can absolutely tell a story in a single game sample when a score seems like a complete outlier. Last night is a good example. Seattle caved Chicago last night in shot attemps and possession, but Chicago capitalized on their few chances and they get what looks to be a comfy 4-2 win that has the chicago fanbase starting to feel themselves again.
you think Kane scores 5% of the time when he’s one on one with the goalie from the top of the circles in?
Very much agree with the last sentence. There’s too much variance in a single game to draw too many conclusions.
They were crude 5ish years ago. They are exponentially better today. Nevermind that all we are seeing is the publicly available data. Teams have access to way more detailed stuff. It's pretty impressive the stuff the guys on the inside can put together.
It was far from comfy, the Kraken dominated the third period All I'm saying is the original tweet and comment made it seem like Grubauer owed his defense for letting them down when watching the game told you it was clearly the opposite
Again my post was based off of a still frame, seeing it played out I’d say about a 10% chance he scores on a shot from there with no traffic and the goalie having zero concern for a pass there.
Where there’s no chance of a pass and the D is close enough that he’s not going to have a chance to deke? Yeah, 10% chance he’s gonna shoot and score there.
I know he has been but that's the danger of bad stats like this being used to confirm something someone already believes "Look, Gru gave up a shot that only had an 11% of going in!" doesn't mesh with reality
Anyone that would have that little a grasp on advanced stats wouldn't use them as supporting evidence
Not when the goalie's chance of saving it was 0% I know there's a state that's like goals saved above expectations...is that based on xG or does that include positioning?
I was just going off your comment using yesterday's xG that Gru owes his defense money. While true, yesterday it was the opposite
Is it based on the goalie’s chance of saving or the puck’s chance of going in? (I honestly don’t know)
puck's chance of going in. Player tracking data makes these stats a lot more accurate, but that isn't publicly available yet.
the Ryan Ellis trade is looking like that rare trade that works out for absolutely nobody. Ellis hurt. Myers and Glass getting healthy scratched. Patrick hurt.
The fact that Benning is talking like this and still has a job is almost proof to me that he's a puppet GM for ownership.
It’s not bottom 5, but it’s extremely poorly constructed for a team that is pressed against the cap with no clear path to improve it
huge goal by Giroux. the Lightning completely dominated stretches of this game but it would have really sucked to get nothing from it.
Here's what reddit has to say: "He had spent all of his callup money on tickets for his family, Nick Bjugstad even helped purchase tickets after he ran out of money." Stars won 2 games in a row with Tufte in the line up going into tonight. Tufts gets told in the morning that he'll be in the lineup to play in his hometown. Does two rounds of media interviews about getting to play at home. He spends all his money on getting his family there. Took the pregame skate and then was announced to be scratched. Bowness shows up at 4pm and says his assistants have decided to make a lineup change and it was out of his control. Stars go on to lose 7-2
the "assistants decided and nothing he could do" part really puts it over the top. at least take ownership of the shitty thing you did.
That’s not the way a winning organization allows it’s players to be treated. It’s not like it was a playoff game. You don’t let a guy spend money to bring in family to late scratch him. Thats fucked up. I expect more from bowness who I have always thought well of as a person.
I've watched that McDavid goal like 15 times this morning. picks it up inside his own blueline with 3 defenders between him and the net and just goes right through them. incredible.
I’ve been to one lancer game in my life. It was when they were playing the lincoln stars, whole team fight broke out…when I was five. Haven’t been to a game since.
The red wings have played 6 more games than the bruins. The scheduling inconsistency seems abnormally bad this season.
Yeah it’s very surprising that Bowness did this since he’s very highly thought of. It’s 1 game of 82, let him play and you probably get a hell of an effort from the guy. Ross Colton got to play near where he grew up last night in front of his friends and family, he had one of his best games of the season.
