There's a newer band called In Aphelion that just released an EP and has a full length coming out next month. Necrophobic members.
Don't know anything about the French Canadian black metal band Sulfure, other than they have a short EP and one demo, but that's my kind of BM sound.
Stormkeep is a USBM band focused on the 90s Norwegian sound. Shares members with Blood Incantation and Wayfarer, I think. They have a new album coming out this year, but their last one (below) was really sold.
really enjoying Noltem - Illusions in the Wake. it's post-black metal, like the heavier parts of Alcest, or like Harakiri for the Sky. fantastic melodies here.
We had a good run. Microsoft update killed my AIMP player after 7 years of no updates. I had the perfect EQ settings, absolutely perfect. Now I have to start all over. Everything sounds so muddy, so gross. I don't know if I can go on.
If we’re talking melodic black metal, I’ve been enjoying this album the last couple days. Band is called Obsequiae.
these guys are one of the all-time greats. all 3 of their albums are fantastic. Aria of Vernal Tombs would have been my AOTY in 2015. black metal is excellent at capturing the feel of the seasons, and for me, that record distills springtime.
This album came out yesterday, I know nothing about the band. I can barely find anything about them on the internet, they're not listed on Metal Archives, just a couple youtubes and soundcloud. Anyway, has a 90's feel that I enjoy immensely. I know, I know, 'shut up old man!'
Listened over the weekend. Riffy I’ve been on an atmospheric black metal kick. Not sure how I’m just getting into Saor
Saw Mastodon at Rockville. They were solid. I wish they would have had a longer set. Crack the Skye is may favorite album by them. They didn't play one song from it. Or is was to fucked up to notice.
That fucking ruled. Mastodon played a couple of their bummers from the new album, and Opeth played a very predictable set list, but it was so great. Akerfeldt was extremely cunty and talkative. 10/10 experience.
read a Decibel magazine article last night about how they simplified the songs for this one, because they could only play like 3 of the songs from their prior albums live. these guys are crazy talented musicians, and they wrote stuff so hard even they couldn't play it. excited to listen to the new record.
new Stormkeep record came out today. like a love letter to the goofiness of the 90s black metal scene. ex: Dimmu Borgir - For All Tid, Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times that artwork is quite choice.
No one asked, but in no real order here’s all the albums i felt like adding to my library this year. trying to figure out my aoty
Been listening to these a lot lately: Kinda like Nevermore meets Dawn Lo fi like ya like Kings of avant-black Black noise This album has a real Hellenic vibe going on Band has a new album coming out on Rope Or Guillotine soon, p excited about it. Blackened cold wave industrial Anyone mention this yet? It’s pretty dang good straight up melodic Norwegian Black Metal by old schoolers who played in STRID, VED BUENS ENDE, DODHEIMSGARD, ULVER, SATYRICON.
love the thread activity. lot of amazing releases came out today. that Dold Vorde Ens Navn is on my list for sure.
the vinyl variants of this look amazing. i ordered the Epitaph version, purple / orange splatter. i'm a sucker for any album cover that j. bannon does (maybe an obvious statement)
it kinda comes in and out — a dreaming neon black vibe I get from some of the songs. But yeah either way it’s a great album. It’s the same guy from Ancient Mastery and he’s insanely prolific. I think he’s put out like 15 albums between 4 or 5 bands in the last two years
If you’re into proggy death/black metal, I just listened to Hands of Despair’s 2018 release, Well of the Disquieted. Quebec band, pretty impressed. Luc Lemay on the closing track.
