Question... Does MJF do it for anyone as an in ring performer? I just don't like how basic his work is. Obviously elite on the mic.
It's really impressive how Vince squandered John Morrison not once, but twice. Had the looks Vince wants, cuts promos and could wrestle.
Watch his Jungleboy, Sammy, and Darby matches. He kills it, underrated imo cause everyone just raves about his promos and he doesn't wrestle often. Also the Mox match doesn't get enough love.
Johnny was like a perfect WWE guy, I dont get that one. Hit Row was doomed the minute Top Dolla became the front man and he couldn't keep his foot out of his mouth on twitter. Swerve super talented, would love to see him in AEW.
Poor Cesaro, think he's only LRLR member left (Breeze, Cole and Nox). It always UUDD may be done anyway, no videos on like a month
feel bad for woods, he built something out of nothing. Weird how “independent contractors” can’t have a business outside of their contracted business
Well, she is certainly not pulling any punches. Followed by a heater from Cagesideseats where the tweets were linked. Following the constant news of these releases, WWE’s disgusting relationship with the government of Saudi Arabia, banning or restricting their independently contracted wrestlers from engaging in deals with platforms like Twitch, etc., it’s easy to see why WWE has no goodwill left with a significant portion of wrestling fans. And WWE doesn’t care one bit about that, so long as the television, Saudi, and Peacock money keeps rolling in.
Honestly why should WWE care? Profits/revenue going up every quarter even with all the "bad press" according to the internet fans. Company humming along despite every nerd online constantly saying they're finally done after each recent release. Wish these people would really be done, it's very freeing. I watch 0 wwe and only check news here and there. Too much good out there to enjoy to be bitching about the company all the time.
I'm not trying to minimize people losing their jobs, that sucks, but I find it funny that a lot of the same people who complain wwe is wasting all these people by not using them also get up in arms when they release them, freeing them to go work somewhere else. It's like people are just always looking for reasons to bash the wwe. Their roster was bloated and so many talented people were not getting used. For all the people over the WWE, they should be happy they can see these people used again. Fuck release everyone you want and give these other promotions talent to use and help them get over.
I got a big problem with the way WWE produces their product, but I don't really have an issue with them releasing wrestlers they don't think are talented. like she says in her tweets, there are other alternatives - go find work somewhere that will make you happy.
I had to change debit cards and let my Peacock expire. Might sign up again for the Rumble but not sure. I usually just check Twitter for whatever Roman did on Smackdown and that’s about my only involvement with WWE now. I might watch a few minutes of NXT every now and then but it is a shell of itself.
I mean they're getting absolutely fucked by the independent contractor designation and in comparison to other sports that are based largely (in terms of revenue) around attracting TV deals as primary source of revenue. I think total pay in WWE is like 8% of net revenue where it's 40-50% in most other professional sports.
I think everyone in WWE has been scared of being blackballed but I mean AEW also regards them as contractors too. The AEW guys should unionize to get the ball rolling in the business, because I think Khan would not or would be too scared to retaliate against anyone who unionized. If they did it first it could encourage others to join in
I don't feel too bad for Johnny/Taya, they chose to go the WWE route and probably made a decent chunk of cash for their household. They either end up in AEW or back in Impact but they'll be alright. Some of these people need to stop thinking they're the exception. WWE does this. You not special.
AEW also let’s them work outside AEW as long as they are given first right of work and they can have outside projects without it having to be under the WWE umbrella.
For sure. It is not like Khan would encourage that, but he has experience dealing with unions from the NFL side. They should definitely do it.
No, someone made the comp to the Miz and I think it's accurate. Captivating on the mic, puts you to sleep in the ring.
I don't think this is fair. if you're doing this, I think a better comparison is Triple H. he's not going to do anything insane, but still very capable of putting on a great match.
So I just saw that Triple H was trending on Twitter (based on accounts I follow, not Twitter at large). Clicked on it and this was the first post. Spoiler: Don't open unless you want to see someone getting peed on
I get she is pissed about being released and seeing people she is friends losing work. But she was given a huge push on NXT. And she was terrible. If you can't cut it in developmental why do you think you would succeed on main roster. People were itt talking about how she looked like a shell of herself from her days in Lucha and Impact. I never seen her on those shows so my first glimpse of her was in NXT and she wasn't good. A bunch of those cuts last night had members who got a shit ton of TV time, they weren't in the PC doing classes with no chance. WWE gave them a shot and they didn't think they could fit.
HHH is another fine comp in the ring. HHH was always a slow worker in ring, largely overbooked and the majority of his matches went entirely way to long. Not saying MJF is all of those negatives but I can see the comp. Maybe I'm overly negative on MJF because you watch AEW and during a 4 hour PPV its high paced action and he's drastically different and maybe it just works against him where in WWE since most of the action is slower it wouldn't stand out as badly.
he built something from nothing into a channel that had over a million subscribers. And now it’s been taken away from him
A huge talking point for Tony, Cody, Bucks and Kenny in setting AEW apart from WWE was unionizing and giving healthcare to wrestlers. It seems like that was just talk tbqh. I don't know if being unionized is a good move for the wrestlers I've seen arguments both ways, Eric Bischoff has been particularly vocal against it for the wrestlers but if you say your going to do these things it would be nice to see progress on it happening.
Or he's upgraded. Without knowing the details of what he's being paid to host this major re-boot I would imagine the upside to that role is much higher than uudd. I've seen people like Shoemaker and others indicate this new gig is much larger for Woods in the grand scheme of things. Given that he took the gig I would assume that's accurate.
Yes, Woods accepted his channel to be shut down so he could get a hosting gig that would be worse for his career and make him less money. Makes way more sense. Fuck WWE
So what is Woods making from UpUpDownDown? In an update to their original report, Fightful Selectsays “little to nothing.” Whatever money he does see from both UpUpDownDown and his new gig as a host on the rebooted G4 television channel are said to be applied toward the downside guarantee on his contract (this is the amount the company is obligated to pay a talent regardless of how variables such as gate/PPV revenue or merchandise sales play out over the term of the deal). Classic independent contractor
I'm not discounting that could be in play... I'm simply pointing out that even if he was told it needed to be shut down, WWE was able to work with him to transition him to something potentially much larger than UUDD.
it's obvious Woods has pretty much zero leverage so why would we ever assume he's getting what he wants?
I've watched him plenty in AEW. He's just not for me. Plenty of talent on both companies that just don't work for me. Balor, Drew, Dirty Dogs, The Miz, Alexa Bliss, Corbin. It's not a anti AEW thing... Some guys have move sets, patterns that just aren't my cup of tea. I will stop my DVR and listen to every word spoken by MJF. When the bell rings I'll gladly FF past his matches. Same goes for a bunch of those talents I listed above.
I assume Woods next negotiation will be interesting. He probably makes seven figures right now, but he deserves more autonomy on outside projects.
Hey pal, I'm going to need you to shut down that YouFace thing you have going on. We didn't create it so we don't want you capitalizing on this from a fame or money standpoint. But look, we were able to get you a WWE licensed deal to host this show that we will pay you on your downside guarantee so in reality you are doing it for free.
I like him, but he’s made himself a caricature over the last six months. He leans into the shock value stuff and it can be very cringey.
WWE clearly believes in him. He's the first person to beat Roman in like 600 days, sure it was DQ but he won. This KOTR win is a major TV push and he's doing great. Now I say this and watch them release him on Monday.
maybe that is it. I feel like the best bad guys can also be good guys under the right circumstances. I can’t see him ever getting cheered
He can be a heel forever, he just needs to be a smug asshole. When he tries to be Bubba Ray Dudley from ‘98, it doesn’t do it for me.
New day and Xavier ain't going anywhere. Yeah it sucks their friend keep getting the boot, but they paid and prominent.
I think he needs to dip into that Bubba lane because just being smug isn't enough in this day and age. He's way to good on the mic to just be a cocky heel eventually people will cheer him because cocky isn't always bad. The Rock was a cocky heel and was beloved at times. Roman currently is a cocky heel and is getting cheered as he tells crowds to acknowledge him. Going the Bubba route is a repulsive and cringe area that keeps people away from cheering him.
