If you have friends at your house on your birthday is it considered a party or a birthday party? Kind of the same concept here.

I just buzz my own head every 3 days - I am willfully ignorant to how much the wife spends on nails/hair/tan/etc.

Clothing is really the only thing I weigh in on.

How many here have separate bank accts and split bills. Such as he pays utilities she pays groceries etc etc

then they use their own money for stuff like hair and hobbies.

seems money is one of the biggest issues in marriage. I was always joint and we share everything. But I hear many are otherwise

We have one for household and one for my business. She handles household, I handle business. Call me old fashioned but I have always considered a joining of 2 people a joining of 2 people.

we used to have a joint account but it became useless when my wife became a stay at home mom. Now we each just have a set amount we say we can spend.

We have split accounts, and so many I can’t keep track. Literally need to set up an appt with her to name them all. We’ve always done it this way. We both put in the same amount every month and honestly it’s a good way to stay within budget.

also she’s in the financial industry and very good with money so I can’t complain. I’m not complaining.

Ours are split. We have had the same general split of bills since before we were married. We never talk about or review purchases because we're both pretty responsible, unless it's something big. I guess we're joint on one brokerage account.

She makes more than me and probably pays a bigger share

We are joint and never had an issue. We've had times where we had to cut way back on some things because of hits to my income (it's sometimes volatile) but it's just been something we talked about, agreed to, and stuck to until things turned around. I can see where it could cause issues though.

Wife has access to everything - could pull out as much money as she wanted to at any point and is a signer on all my personal accounts. Also can see any transaction I make on my CC.

Long story short - I'm an idiot for this but it gives her complete security which has a lot of benefits, like me never being fussed at or having to argue about anything.

As long as its not big ticket items neither of us give a shit about nickel/dime.

All of our bank accounts are joint. We each have a monthly stipend to spend on random shit for ourselves.

She doesn’t want anything to do with the money and I’m an accountant so I just manage all of it.

We have a joint account for big purchases, and our own personal accounts. Never ask each other what we’re buying.

Will really have to start budgeting/keeping an eye on things once daycare starts early next year.

Split but have joint Credit card. Sometimes I freak out when I get an alert for $30-50k worth of purchases for her work on it but 95% of the time she gives me a heads up which is good.

this is essentially me. I can complain about a lot of things, but I have adhd like a mofo so she is great in this regard.

she keeps me on schedule & I know what I need to spend while having my slush fund for golf, wine, or other purchases.

It’s easy to complain but my wife is pretty fucking awesome. I do good and she does better than good. We aren’t rich, but are able to pay the bills and I give her money and she handles the finances. I clean the gutters and do most of the cooking. It works. (Having said that…I’m moving back to Nebraska from Oregon so I’m also using this as pity favors, 100% her talking about it on the women’s version of this thread, someplace, about me we a result. I’ve already parlayed this into us buying land and a place to die out here in oregon. Tbh, I’ve been the person this thread complains about in the entire situation.)

We share an account but each of us have our own credit cards. They are both paid out of the joint account each month but that still has room for a little independent spending. I make a lot more than her but don’t say anything to her about spending unless it’s a really big CC number one month.

I blow my fun money on golf and booze. Her’s are clothes, makeup and skincare products. As long as the monthly CC balance is kept under a reasonable number, nobody says anything.

Got it, if you're buying $50,000+ worth of stuff in a month the CSR purchase protection insurance might be worthwhile. Or a business card to get her a nice bonus :yousoright:

All bank accounts are joint, and all major credit cards (amex, chase, American) joint but we each have one credit card the other doesn’t see for gifts and superfluous shit we don’t care to explain to each other. Typically keep that under a few grand each a month.

We have one joint account, that I operate, for the mortgage/household expenses. Otherwise it’s entirely separate, all bills are under my name and I pay all food/regular expenses. She does all the major cash saving and makes the major purchases because of this. She makes a good amount more and loves not having to think about bills and whatnot

It seems counterintuitive but it works, not fought about money at all despite owning a house together.
