Spending a week in your fine city. Arrived Tuesday and had Bennie on Eagle first night (we didn’t have reservations anywhere, so it was one of the only places that could take us), which was surprisingly good. Rhubarb Wednesday (great) and Bright Eyes concert at Rabbit Rabbit last night (great until my wife fainted). But awesome so far. Just picked up the kids from camp, and we are here through Monday.

Rafting on Sunday at Green River Adventures. Anyone done this one? Any good?

Green river is much more scenic than French broad. No booze allowed. Which may be fine if you’re with kids

We’ve been threatening that, but the wives would make us sleep on the porch the rest of the weekend. I’m content with getting to see Bright Eyes.

    Question for y'all.

What neighborhoods in/around Asheville are popular with young families? Where are the top public schools?

Have a friend visiting from NYC and we are doing next weekend in Asheville. Since I have known been told I have a torn adductor muscle, my hiking type adventures will be limited but the general plan seems pretty solid.

    Saturday
    - Zen Tubing in the afternoon
    - Check-in to hotel
    - Drinks at Aloft
    - Dinner at Storm Rhum Bar
    - Antidote for post-dinner cocktails

    Sunday
    - Tupelo Honey downtown for breakfast
    - Either dropping her off for a hike and I just chill or we do ax throwing
    - Hit up some breweries
    - Driving- Highland, New Belgium, maybe Sierra Nevada, maybe Whistle Hop
    - Downtown- Bhramari, Green Man, Burial, Funkatorium, Twin Leaf, Hi-Wire, Asheville Brewing
    - Buxton Hall for lunch (don't worry, I will make sure to get the fried chicken sandwich)
    - Sunset drinks at Grove Park Inn
    - Dinner at Chestnut
    - Bounce around to Yacht Club, Top of the Monk, The Times, S&W Market, Hemingways

    Monday
    - Breakfast at Sunny Point before leaving

Obviously we won't get to all of the breweries and places on the list but went ahead and put them down for options. Pretty pumped about the trip, though I am obviously disappointed I won't be able to do much (if any) hiking.

I had dinner at Chestnut last time I was in town, and it was phenomenal. One World is another fun brewery worth checking out that I feel is a bit under the radar. Only basement brewery in Asheville.

I was the same about a month ago. I wanted so many other things but I had my mind made up that I was getting the chicken sammie after all the talk itt. Thankfully I was there with someone so she got something different so I was able to try multiple items.

Just got back from a long weekend in Asheville with the wife, stayed in an airbnb in the Montford area and it was just an all around great weekend. I live in Raleigh but for some reason always go too long between my trips to Asheville, think I'm going to start making my birthday weekend an annual trip up there. Birthday is beginning of November and looked like that would be about perfect for leaves changing. Some of the highlights were Biltmore with Christmas up, we hadn't been there in about 10 years and while pretty pricey I'm a sucker for that place. Went up the Blueridge parkway up to Canton, NC to see the Graveyard Fields. The drive was incredible with the leaves changing even if it looked like we were 1-2 weeks past peak. Went down to the art district and walked around there for some of an afternoon and picked up a couple things for our new house. Other than that just kind of popped around, drank, and just chilled.

For food we ate at Buxton Hall and after reading this thread I went with the chicken sandwich. It was really good but if I'm being honest the american cheese slice through me off and think I would go without that if I got it again. Ate dinners at Red Ginger, Chestnut, and Asheville Proper. All were great meals but Asheville Proper was one of the better meals I have ever had. Just everything about the meal was perfect and would highly highly recommend it to anyone. Already planning a spring trip back when things are starting to bloom.

My bday is late October and that's pretty much my annual move as well :thumb:

I wish I had been up there this past weekend; Gamecocks were playing in a basketball tournament. Hope they'll do it again cause that'd be awesome to have that going on during a visit

Russellin4885 just looked it up, you have quite a further distance from Asheville in Raleigh than I do in Columbia :smugdog:

NC is a wide ass state

It's right at the top of what I would consider a comfortable weekend drive, but I've also become a bit of a bitch about driving in my older age. Anything like 6+ hours and I'm flying.

The drive home from NC to SC is fun. Wheeeeee, right down the mountain. Pretty sure you can see 3 or 4 states as you come down that descent

Sounds like I need to add Asheville Proper to the rotation. Biltmore at Christmas is awesome. We went a few years ago after a nice snow and it was incredible.

Are there any dog-friendly breweries that allow dogs inside? Or any that have enclosed patio with heaters?

We are staying at a cabin in Clyde, NC, and want to spend tomorrow in Asheville.

Some places are less stringent in enforcing the rules than others. Virtually every brewery there has dog friendly areas, too.

We have a brewery here that encloses their patio and adds heaters so people can still be “outside” with their dogs. Hoping someone might know of an Asheville brewery that does the same.

asheville brewing has a covered outdoor space but not really enclosed. Dog friendly.

green mansion should have heaters outside, Dirty Jacks next door will let you have dogs in there. Archetype in west Asheville will let dogs inside

it’s mainly the ones that serve food that have to be more strict.
