I get it, but all comedians pretty much hang out together - you would have to dislike all famous comedians to have a guilt by association take.

 

Have you commented more on this in another thread - may have missed it but if not definitely think a lot of people would like to learn from your journey.

Obviously being in WEHO have quite a few trans friends but always interested to read others' experiences.

I was arguing with my cousin about JK Rowling and she didn't get all the "uproar" and said that she would consider herself a TERF. She's hardline Catholic anti-abortion crusader. I said that she was closer to a TER because she's eliminated from being a feminist with the whole wanting to take away womens bodily autonomy thing.

 

I've shown it to so many people over the years but one of my favorite Chappelle things to watch is his episode of Inside The Actors Studio. Shot shortly after he came back from Africa, it's one of the most introspective and honest discussions about himself I've seen. To see him talk about his views on life, the media, and his comedy, in juxtaposition against where he stands today, is really interesting.

the people that go to these board meetings to try to keep affordable housing out of their towns are the fucking worst. if you told me Chappelle turned into one of those people 10 years ago I would never believe it.

From someone that lives in the area not sure why they would build affordable housing in Yellow Springs. It's a small country town outside Dayton that their main economy is a free college called Antioch. The town roads are already too small for the amount of traffic there between the townies and the students. If they want to build affordable housing it should be over in Xenia or in any of the acreage around the city, not right in town.

edit: it didn't imbed - basically they went the mountain lion sanctuary route before taking affordable housing.

 

I'm actually all for higher density housing. This is just a weird place for it. The whole town population isn't even 4,000 people and the entire town is surrounded by open fields everywhere. Xenia, which is about 10 minutes from Yellow Springs and has a population of 25,000+, could use it as it's becoming a more popular commuter city for people that live in Dayton. The local population currently is mostly blue collar workers and are going to get priced out if they don't build more condos and townhomes before all the suburbanites move in.

 

Maybe Yellow Springs is trying to get people to move 10 minutes away to get affordable housing?

Ha not likely. Xenia and Yellow Springs, though ten minutes apart, could not be any more different of places. Xenia is a former rust belt town that is full of trumpers that would scoff at the idea of going to Yellow Springs. Yellow Springs is a hippie town still stuck in the 60s and it's awesome. It's a place that has hosted the young socialists national convention and you went to smoke since it was like a $5 fine. It's why Dave lives there even though he could live anywhere in the world. In general I'm sure most of the residents would support affordable housing in Yellow Springs, it's the type of place that supports those types of ideas. The bigger issue is where in town they were proposing. Like I mentioned the town has a bunch of traffic issues already and the new development if they did mixed housing instead of just single family would've been a 20% increase in the population and that area's roads wouldn't be able to support it. Honestly, I expect them to come up with a new proposal somewhere further outside of town.

 

Yeah I fucking despise Dave at this point but this issue seems a little more complicated than the trans hate. Not sure a town of 4,000 has a need for affordable housing.

Yep. All the high end housing being built in Xenia and Fairborn are odd choices imo. Those are blue collar towns that need affordable housing. Not that I'm against more housing being built in Yellow Springs (Because I want to live there).

 

I'm not really buying the traffic argument. Weren't most of those houses being built on the south side of town, away from main street?

It may be only 4,000 people, but if it’s 4,000 very wealthy people, then the area probably has a fuckton of laborers, cleaners, bussers, dishwashers, wait staff, etc who make it what it is. And those people don’t get paid shit. You should give them affordable housing so they can live closer and not spend hours out of their day going back and forth for only one of their jobs, out of two or three, they desperately need to pay their bills and maybe save some.

 

A town of 4,000 can’t have affordable housing because of traffic? Hahahahahahahahah. Get the fuck outta here.

 

Yellow Springs is SUPER walkable too. Why do these people need all this parking downtown? The only answer is they want to keep it "exclusive" by not building more housing. I respect pianoman 's take but its pretty well known throughout the area that YS has a huge portion of NIMBY residents.

 

I think the entire conversation we have about affordable housing in this country is ass backwards tbh.
