Reminder Wednesday is when we try to buy a barrel The window of opportunity for SBS members to order a barrel of bourbon will begin on 12/01/21 at 12pm EST. SBS Day! SBS Day is when we refresh our inventory, always falling on the first Wednesday in December at 12 p.m. E.T. It's the day when brands that are currently sold out are replenished, and your annual opportunity to visit one of Sazerac's world-class distilleries to hand pick your very own, one-of-a-kind barrel. Our barrels range in age from a few months all the way up to 50 years old. As such, availability is limited as we wait for barrels to mature to their fullest potential. We are taking necessary steps to help increase supply and catch up with the demand, however, we have found no substitute for aging. As a result, each brand has a fixed number of barrels available. Barrels are expected to sell out immediately. And due to overwhelming demand, we limit one barrel per person. Once gone, they'll be sold out for the year. If you'd like to visit the distillery as a part of your barrel pick experience, it's important to have dates in mind beforehand. However, while supply is extremely limited, you won't lose your place in line once an order is started, as you'll have 10 minutes to complete the ordering process. In other words, take your time when selecting your preferred dates. Notes About the order window. A limited number of barrels from each brand that are currently sold out on the website will be available to order on December 1st at 12pm EST. At that time, members can place orders for those brands (schedule a visit to the distillery or have us select a barrel for you). Each brand has a fixed number of barrels available. Once a brand hits its designated quota, it will be sold out for the year. Barrels are expected to sell out very quickly. You do not need to have a retail partner when ordering. If you can submit your order and secure a barrel, the next step you will need to take is to select a retailer to legally complete your purchase. https://www.singlebarrelselect.com/process/
i took a 40-minute round trip drive to a NC ABC store in a nearby rural county i think this approach works. they had a few on the 'buy now' list and i picked up Old Forester 1910 and Four Roses single barrel
yes NC ABC distribution seems to suck in general, but it is particularly unfortunate for my county there is a lot of bourbon here, it's just that all the stuff y'all are recommending is extremely scarce. i'm going to eventually branch out and start buying random bottles to see if i like them, but for now i want to try out all the reasonably-priced stuff that is popular and well-liked by other ppl.
Yeah NC is terrible. Ask the local guy when their deliveries come. They used to get McKenna 10 and Eagle rare sometimes. I would drop in Wednesdays in the morning to see what they got and got lucky sometimes. Got a little book once too.
NC ABC is absolute garbage no doubt, and it’s gotten way worse this year. I’m to the point where I don’t even attempt to find any bottles cause it’s a massive waste of time. You should be able to find Russell Reserve 10Y, wild turkey 101, Pikesville, Michters small batch pretty easily. Those have been my go to lately cause you can actually find them on the shelf. I was in Durham recently and apparently they got a bunch of McKenna in so I bought a couple of those but that’s about the best I’ve done in several months.
My local bar has Eagle Rare on the shelf, I asked, and he said he gets 1 bottle per year i do always see McKenna in the ABC store, it just doesn't say anything about being aged. Same with Michter's. they always have John J Bowman single barrel for $45, and I just keep buying those, gonna give them away as christmas gifts.
Meanwhile I go to visit some family this weekend and they have two full boxes of Blantons and eagle rare. Obviously snagged one on the way out the door
Eagle Rare is in abundance here in GA now. For the NC bros, not sure where you’re located but Frugal MacDoogle in Fort Mill or Southern Spirits in Indian Land,SC had some good stuff when I was there
I'm going to SC in a few weeks and I'm scouting out liquor stores on the i95 corridor, but most of them are shitholes example
Wife got me a Russell’s Reserve Private Barrel Select as a part of our anniversary today, that was nice.
I bought a bottle of Eagle Rare right before Thanksgiving. Its good....but is my palate off for thinking Four Roses Small Batch Select is a better bottle and $20 cheaper?
That's the best I've seen so far by a lot. Following a facebook group and most everyone is like 9,000 all the way up to 35,000. Maybe someone can remember from last year better but I don't think it made it into the 200's. Worth a shot though.
A guy that's in our local whiskey society got number #93. Said the only things left when they're number was called were 1792 and Bowman, but at the last minute a Buffalo Trace barrel popped up and he grabbed it.
Group I’m in has a guy who landed a barrel of 1792 BiB. Don’t know what his number was. Edit: he was 194.
pperc waited for me because I had to be afk. Got to our # and then it said error with our queue number and never let us in. My day is in shambles
Was given this today, still full of 1981 Jim Beam juice, it’s a 1.75 liter jug, and it is awesome. Tax strip is mostly intact (it split where it was laying on top of the leather string)
Everytime I see you post this large ass picture I think you were gifted a soufflé until I continue scrolling.
Leeroy Jenkins! apparently they had them at Specs in TX for less than Wolves was selling them for. Friend of mine in Allen, TX sent it.
