havent cared much for any of the pitching moves, but like this deal allows for some lineup flexibility and binelas hit the piss out of the ball this summer
Idk how they do it, but years of team control needs to be slashed. Or maybe just go to arb years after 1 or 2 years. And not the bullshit arb we have now where elite players get league minimum for 3 years, then like $8m and $10m in years 4 and 5. That's a joke. A guy like Soto should make $30m+ next year. He's worth it. A player shouldn't have to sign a 10 year deal at a discount after 2 years bc he's going to get underpaid for 4 more years if he doesn't. Teams are getting smarter. They aren't paying old mid level guys anymore. The players need to get paid during their prime, not underpaid for all of it with the hopes of being one of the few that gets mega rich down the road. They need to find a way to better distribute the money being spent on players. Hell a few guys next year will make more than some entire teams next year. Cut from the top and feed it down to the 20th man on the roster.
Who does Manfred think he's convincing with this bullshit? People in his office who think this statement is a good idea are some of the dumbest, most tone deaf people ever.
We can all look forward to the promotions for next year. Can't wait for Cardinals 3rd baseman jersey!
1. Raise minimum wage for all active roster players with a service time longer than 10 consecutive days to $1M. Once reached, this becomes the benchmark for renewables. Arb minimum is $2M for one year deals, $3M per year for 2+ year deals. 2. Cut renewable and arb years from 6 to 4; two renewable, 2 arb. 3. Renewable contract extensions cannot exceed three years in length; Arb contracts cannot exceed five years in length. 4. The lowest-paid player with 4+ years of MLB service time on the active roster cannot receive less than 5% of what the highest-paid player makes on a yearly basis. Just a start, but my years of GM franchise experience on The Show make me highly qualified to offer these opinions.
1 remains readily susceptible to manipulation with options. 2 and 4 in combination will prompt teams to leave prospects in the minors. 3 is pointless given 4. 4 is a non-starter for the players, as it imposes a maximum contract of $20 million.
What is the league minimum salary and how do you reach that number without killing the pool of players (middle relievers, utility guys at the end of the bench) who have sub-$2 million AAVs?
someone just told me the Phillies took down the giant Harper MVP banner they had up on the stadium too. so weird.
I thought we as a thread decided to stop pretended Harper wasn't awesome? guess we still have some small-minded holdovers.
skeptical of his indoctrination by LaRoche but I’ve got no other complaints about him as a person and none of him as a player So I’d give the Harper hate
I feel dirty defending Buster but he said high-impact for a reason...social media is wild now. And there's a comma between MLB and players because he's saying both Not the best tweet but I get what he's saying. There is nothing stopping Cohen or Brian Reynolds blowing up the message with a tweet
the arab spring was fueled almost exclusively from social media and happened before the last nfl lockout
MLBN didn’t use headshots when discussing the deals signed yesterday (text-only graphics), but i turned it off after a couple of minutes
There is no fixed league min for FA vets, that’s what the 5% is for; they sacrifice the $$ guarantee of arbitration for the freedom to choose their team. You want to pay Scherzer $40M a year? Better be willing to pony up for your FA relievers and bench options or rely on your farm system. It will allow smaller market teams to get good cheaper FA utility guys to compliment their teams more easily.
Thats why it can’t work. You’re not going to get either side to agree to an effective upper limit on salaries.
Wouldn't this just lead to a bunch of vets being out of the league way earlier and playing younger guys?
everyone posting itt is violating labor laws during the lockout and i have reported them to whoever oversees that stuff
