no divisions allows that as well and is already something people actually do rather than some nonsense
no, its an sec to sec comparison. its illogical to expect a conference to go "pods" when what it would accomplish could also be accomplished by using a system they already use in other sports. i dont think theres a good way to pods. theres no chance we'd go into that system without protected rivalries with teams in other pods which would limit how often teams can rotate in and out of the schedule. with no divisions you can have 3 protected rivalries while also playing every other team in the conference once every other year. with pods you have to choose between the two. of course, with this being an agenda espn is pushing we may very well see it. doesnt make it less terrible. but id be cool with it if we got a 4 team sec playoff with it. pods are fun to discuss. who is in which pod? etc. lots to talk about there. but no divisions is just a better and more flexible option. its like everyone gets their own unique curated "pod" and then plays the entirety of the rest of the conference over a two year span.
The thing with having no divisions, how do you do tiebreakers? If you play a 9 game conference schedule, you’re still only playing 60 percent of your conference. At some point you’re going to have a 3 or even 4 team tie where the teams haven’t played each other. How do you sort that out? At least maintaining divisions - rotating or permanent - you can feel good about crowning a division champion.
yes but it will be less good. bama and auburn would be in the same pod. bama and auburn should have very different protected rivalries. why would auburn need a protected game against tennessee? why would auburn and bama need a protected game against vandy? there will always be imperfections with pods but no divisions allows that perfection.
the same way tiebreakers are done now. with pods we would eventually (or probably very quickly) run into a situation in which one pod contains a 9-0 and 8-1 team while the next best teams in the conference are all 6-3. 8-1 lost to 9-0 in a close game at 9-0. 8-1 doesnt go to seccg. 8-1 beat the other representative by 40. etc
9 game conference slate: 3 games against your pod 4 games against the pod you're paired with 2 games against permanent rivals in the other two pods
I want to be in a pod with Texas Oklahoma and Missouri because I want three auto wins per year for slaw
you would also need a rotating schedule for when you play a the pod of a crossover, right? let’s say Florida in pod A has crossover with LSU in pod C. In a year when they play pod C, they need a rotating team from pod B or D to get to 9
You have 1 permanent rival from each pod. This will always work out to 2 additional games after your pod(3) and the pod you're paired with(4). So you're always at 9.
That’s dumb. Rotate through all the teams. 3 protected rivals and rotate through the other teams every 2 years. Play everyone home and away over a 4 year span.
They should have permanent pods and then draw the remaining schedule out of a hat on live tv would out rate every non-SEC actual game
You play 3 protected rivals every year and the the other 12 teams in the league rotate off and on every 2 years, 6 teams at a time. Pods make this happen, it you don’t need pods to do this. You can just have 3 protected rivals and rotate the other teams - and get rid of divisions. Having pods and protected non-pod games is dumb.
You really need 4 conferences to fix the college football post season. Have each conference declare a champion however they would like to and then have a four team playoff. Pods work really well for this because you theoretically get a 16 team playoff while still maintaining the importance of regular season games. Have each pod put a team in the conference 4 team playoff. The winner of the conference enters the national playoff. Fixes some major problems with expansion: 1. Pod games are super important so the regular season still matters 2. Expansion of teams that are eligible for the playoffs 3. as conferences expand it is going to become more likely that top teams don’t have a opportunity to play each other. This makes sure there is an opportunity for a matchup. 4. No complaints about bias or multiple teams from the same conference getting in. You win your conference and you are in.
Southern Indiana going DI. The OVC is desperate for members so seems like a likely destination for them
Never a good sign for the leadership of a conference when they allow logos without transparent backgrounds on their website. Amateurs.
